2023 McLaren 570S Spider opens roof on 204mph British supercar
McLaren’s Sports Series is gaining a third bodystyle, with the 2023 McLaren 570S Spider chopping off the roof so you can really hear the twin-turbos sing. Based on the original 570S Coupe, the Spider packs a retractable hardtop that splits into two, folding into the bodywork in just 15 seconds. Drivers will be able to operate it at up to 25 mph.
Courtesy of lightweight composite materials, the overall weight increase is fairly minimal compared to the fixed-roof Coupe. In fact, it’s just 101 pounds heavier, and McLaren says that there’s no change in structural rigidity. That’s aided by the carbon-fiber MonoCell II chassis, of course.
Drop the roof, and a glazed wind deflector can motor up to help cut wind-buffeting. It can also be opened even when the roof is up, for extra ventilation. An optional sports system has an ESG that channels exhaust sounds to the cabin, routed underneath the tonneau cover that pivots out of the way to accommodate the folded roof panels.
As you’d expect, the 3.8-liter twin-turbo V8 M838TE engine is carried over from the Spider’s coupe sibling. It’s good for 562 horsepower and 433 lb-ft. of torque, and paired with a 7-speed seamless-shift gearbox. The steering is electro-hydraulic power-assisted, and there are independent adaptive dampers with a choice of Normal, Sport, and Track modes.
Carbon ceramic disc brakes are fitted all round, with 6-piston aluminum calipers at the front and 4-piston at the rear. Altogether, you’re looking at a 0-60 mph time of 3.1 seconds and a top speed of 204 mph. If there’s a compromise for going topless, it’s that the top speed with the roof retracted drops to a “mere” 196 mph. Either way, McLaren says the 570S Spider should do 16 mpg in the city, 23 mpg on the highway, or 19 mpg combined; admirable numbers for a car of its ilk.
Still, you’re probably more interested in the drama. Visually, that’s there courtesy of McLaren’s dihedral doors, which swing up rather than out, and a slightly extended spoiler. The latter is half an inch higher than that of the 570S Coupe, compensating for the change in the car’s body shape and its impact on aerodynamics. As standard it’s finished in Dark Palladium grey, though the McLaren Special Operations team will happily switch that out for visible carbon-fiber for an extra fee.
The cabin, meanwhile, has a choice of six-way adjustable or eight-way adjustable memory seats, with either Nappa leather or Alcantara trim. The carbon-fiber-shelled sports seats from the McLaren P1 can also be specified. All of the driver’s instrumentation is digital, on a 10-inch display, while a 7-inch touchscreen in the center stack runs McLaren’s own IRIS software for climate control, navigation, and infotainment.

McLaren is adding three new colors to the paint options: Curacao Blue, Vega Blue, and Sicilian Yellow. That takes the total number to 20 in all. Meanwhile there’s also the option of a Dark Palladium grey contrast finish for the roof, windshield pillars, and rear buttresses. New 10-spoke lightweight forged alloy wheels – 19-inches up front, 20-inches at the rear – are optional too, and you can have the brake calipers finished in Liquid Black.
How much will this open-air performance monster set you back? The first 400 570S Spiders will be “launch edition” models, and the car is available to order now from $208,800. Hand-built, they’re expected to be delivered from September this year.

Porsche Opens Up About Its Web3 Plans
Recently, Porsche unveiled plans to release a 7,500-piece NFT collection based on the classic Porsche 911. It will drop in January 2023, with Hamburg designer and 3D artist Patrick Vogel set to create each piece in the collection. At nft now and Mana Common’s The Gateway at Art Basel, Porsche revealed the details of its upcoming release.
“If a project wants to be successful, it needs to bring people together,” explained Porsche’s Director of Brand Management and Partnerships Deniz Keskin while speaking at the panel. “Web3 is exactly in the same spirit. Porsche isn’t going into the space for some economic reason. We’re going there because we want to engage with you to build something.”
In fact, the German automaker aims to make its NFT designs a decentralized proposition — enabling consumers to have a hand in curating tomorrow’s blockchain assets.
Porsche’s emphasis on community co-creationPeople who buy a Porsche NFT will be able to help shape the design of their digital token by choosing a “route” for it, selecting from Performance, Lifestyle, or Heritage options. These routes reflect a particular characteristic of the company’s brand identity, and they will modify the overall design of the NFT itself. In the months following the collection’s release, Vogel will work with user input to ready each NFT as a 3D asset in Unreal Engine 5.
Lars Krämer, Porsche’s manager of innovation and methods, likewise underscored the importance of collaborative NFT creation in the company’s upcoming release. Noting that the team’s Discord channel has shot up to 13,000 active users since the announcement yesterday, Krämer explained that holders will be invited to collaborative input sessions on what future NFT designs might look like or involve.
“The core of the project is the community,” reiterated Krämer. “We want to get into contact with you guys and have co-creation. That’s the goal. I’m looking forward to having the first co-creation session with holders in the future. We can test designs of the artists in the future and bring you guys together with the artists and our whole team.”
Krämer also explained that future NFT utility will involve access to exclusive physical and virtual events and merchandise. Keskin emphasized that some of Porsche’s future Web3 plans are still in flux by design — the goal is very much to evolve the company’s NFT initiatives alongside the community of Porsche enthusiasts.
Relinquishing artistic controlThe 3D artist Patrick Vogel, who will create each NFT in the collection, acknowledged that the creation process for Porsche was uniquely Web3 in nature. “Web3 is always about what comes next,” Vogel explained. “You always have this co-creation in mind. It’s different than normal creation in Web2. I love to work with iconic stuff. I love to do really weird art. Colorful, playful. And if Porsche calls you and says, ‘Hey, can you do this?” You say, ‘Of course.’”
Belgian visual artist Vexx, who is also working with Vogel and the Porsche team to create the designs used in the NFT release, added to the sentiment of co-creation: “Giving up artistic control is part of the Web3 mentality. It’s more open. Since I was young, I’ve been posting my art on social media. People copy it — that stuff happens. It’s something you have to embrace and nurture. [With this project,] people will be able to adapt their NFT to [suit] their interests. They can go with whatever style they want.”
Balancing choice with chanceKrämer noted that Porsche enthusiasts’ final NFT will be a product of both holder preference and randomization. Porsche fans won’t know what they’re getting even when they specify what route or style they’d like their NFT to be. Like Keskin, Krämer explained that whatever comes next in the Porsche NFT initiative will be influenced by the collaborative sessions they hold with community members.
“We’re really looking forward to getting you to the co-creation sessions to help us decide what ‘season two’ will be,” Krämer said. The team also enticed the audience by offering a POAP opportunity for fans that interact with Porsche’s exhibit at The Gateway: A Web3 Metropolis on Flagler Street. Those that do so will have a better chance at getting on the inaugural release’s allowlist, which is scheduled to open sometime in December.
Editor’s note: An earlier version of this article said that Porsche’s Discord server had 30,000 active users. This has been corrected to 13,000 active users. It also said the team offered a “POAP-like opportunity”. This was also corrected.
A Door Opens For Public Health Studies
A Door Opens for Public Health Studies SPH partnership gives researchers unprecedented data access
Dan Berlowitz
Researchers at the Boston University School of Public Health (SPH) have unprecedented access to medical claims and clinical data, under a partnership forged with Optum Labs, a Cambridge, Massachusetts–based research center.
Optum Labs reached agreements to collaborate with seven health care organizations including SPH—the only school of public health on a list that includes Pfizer, Tufts Medical Center, and the American Medical Group Association.
Partners have access to millions of medical claims and clinical records of insured patients, for research that could range from medication studies to health policy and outcomes analyses.
The de-identified records include information about tests, treatments and costs of care, as well as patients’ race, income level and geographical location.
“As a school of public health, we hope to bring to this partnership a whole new set of questions that large data sets are able to address—not just about the effectiveness of medication, as many studies may look at, but everything from understanding environmental health exposures, to basic epidemiology, to health policy questions,” says Dr. Dan Berlowitz, a professor of health policy and management at SPH who is leading the collaboration.
“These data represent a broad swath of the population—not just the elderly, as Medicare does, or veterans who are seen in the VA, but children and people of diverse ages and backgrounds,” he says. “This broadens the opportunities for our faculty and students throughout the institution to explore issues using detailed data representing millions of people.”
Traditionally, access to claims data has been relatively limited, with many studies relying on smaller databases, or on records of patients covered by Medicare and Medicaid, federally funded insurance programs. The partnership with Optum Labs will allow researchers to access a much larger pool of de-identified clinical and claims data, in collaboration with researchers and experts from other health care institutions.
“Data is sort of the life blood of what we do in research,” says Dr. Mark Prashker, SPH associate dean of institutional development and strategic planning and an associate professor of health policy and management. “This gives us big data in health care—it allows us to ask questions we couldn’t ordinarily ask…I think it has the potential to revolutionize how we think about solving health care–delivery questions.”
Researchers who want access to the data are asked to submit proposals to a SPH review committee, which will work with Optum Labs and other research partners to ensure collaboration.
Among the possible areas of research are cost-effectiveness studies related to health care delivery, and comparing the success of various clinical interventions, Berlowitz and Prashker say.
Dr. Paul Bleicher, chief executive officer of Optum Labs, said the partnerships will help Optum Labs “accelerate the pace of our innovation, paving the way for exciting new research initiatives that can be directly translated to improvements in patient care.”
Optum Labs—founded by health care company Optum and the Mayo Clinic in 2013—already has more than 20 major research initiatives underway, ranging from studies that compare the effectiveness of various medical devices, to research into how treatment patterns vary across geographic areas. Optum Labs encourages dissemination of research findings through publication in scientific journals and presentations at professional meetings. Several projects are slated for publication in mid-2014.
Optum is an arm of UnitedHealth Group, one of the country’s largest health care companies.
Dr. John Noseworthy, president and CEO of Mayo Clinic, said the research collaborative is “excited to welcome the fresh insights and perspectives that new partners will bring.” In addition to having access to large sources of clinical and claims information, he said, “all partners will now benefit from the unique viewpoints that others bring, as we work to transform health care in the US.” and improve access and treatment.
Other new partners include: Lehigh Valley Health Network, of Allentown, Pennsylvania; Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, of Troy, New York; and the University of Minnesota School of Nursing.

Jobs Opens Up About Iphone Leak, Abobe Flash, And More
Apple CEO Steve Jobs used the D8 Conference on Tuesday to air his views on a variety of issues, including Adobe Flash, Google, AT&T, and the next-gen iPhone controversy. In a Q&A with audience members and an interview with the Wall Street Journal
On Google and Apple
A lot has been made in recent months about the ‘frenemy’ status between Google and Apple. This was apparent during Google’s recent I/O developer conference, where the search giant made a few jokes at Apple’s expense when comparing the closed platform approach of the iPhone OS versus Google’s open approach with the Android OS.
Jobs told Mossberg and Swisher that he doesn’t see Apple as engaged in a platform war with competitors like Google. When asked about Apple’s ongoing competition with Google, Jobs said, “just because we’re competing with somebody doesn’t mean we have to be rude.” Which may have been a response to Google’s recent jabs during Google I/O.
Jobs on Google :
During the audience Q&A with Jobs at D8, the Apple chief was asked about television and whether TV needed a new interface “to make television truly interactive.”
Jobs also said the TV market was very balkanized and was absent any standards, like GSM for cell phones, that make it possible to create one product that can be distributed around the world.
Jobs on TV
Jobs and AT&T
Another issue that came up during the audience Q&A was the iPhone and AT&T. An audience member from Houston said that while he didn’t have problems with data speeds on AT&T’s network, he complained of AT&T’s call quality and reliability.
Jobs on AT&T :
Gizmodo and Extortion
Jobs was unapologetic about Apple’s decision to pursue legal action against gadget blog Gizmodo over the leaked iPhone scandal
However, Jobs also showed his lighter side in regard to the iPhone controversy by saying, “This is a story that’s amazing, it’s got theft, it’s got buying stolen property, it’s got extortion, I’m sure there’s sex in there somewhere…somebody should make a movie outta this.”
What’s interesting about Jobs’ statements is that he indirectly accused Gizmodo of extortion. Earlier this year, Gizmodo purchased a test unit of the next-generation iPhone from someone who claimed to have found the device in a bar in Redwood City, California. The gadget blog then wrote several detailed posts about the device, and its components. The iPhone leak has resulted in an ongoing criminal investigation, but it’s not clear if the target of that investigation is Gizmodo or the person who sold the device to the gadget blog.
I imagine Jobs’ extortion charge is referring to measures Gizmodo took to force Apple to issue a written request asking Gizmodo for its prototype back. It will be interesting to see if Jobs’ claim becomes part of any formal charges against Gizmodo.
Jobs on next-gen iPhone
Jobs expounded further on why Apple decided to exclude Adobe products from Apple’s iPhone OS devices such as the iPhone and iPad. Apple has said it will not allow Flash to run on its iPhone OS products and forbids developers from creating iPhone applications using Adobe’s cross-platform development tools. “Different pieces of technology kind of go in cycles,” Jobs said. “Flash looks like a technology that had its day, but is waning, and HTML 5 looks like the technology that’s really on the ascendancy right now.”

How To See Who Unfriended You On Facebook (2023)
Getting unfriended on a social media platform has become equivalent to breaking the friendship, or in some cases, the relationship altogether. If someone has left you on the cliffhanger, don’t worry! This article will help you see who unfriended you on Facebook using an iPhone, Mac, or other device.
1. Use the Facebook timeline to see if someone unfriended you
Finding out if someone unfriended you is pretty easy. Observe the posts of the person. If multiple posts visible to you have a tiny globe icon underneath the person’s name, the post is public, and anyone can view it.
Alternatively, if you can view posts with an icon showing two people on your timeline, you are still friends with that person. As they are private posts and only friends can see them.
However, this method can be tricky to figure out who unfriended you sometimes, as it is possible that someone simply restricted you for a while. Restriction means you will not be able to see their private posts but will still be friends with them.
So, if this left you puzzled, move on to the next method.
2. Search your Facebook friend list
Facebook also shows you your friend list showing every account you are friends with. To check if someone is still your friend, you can look for their name on this list. Here’s how to do it:
Open Facebook.
Tap More at the bottom right.
Tap your name or profile picture.
This method is incredibly simple and accurate!
3. Check the person’s Facebook profile
Instead of waiting for someone to post on your timeline, you can also hop straight onto their profile. If you see private posts too, you are still friends with the person!
Besides, you can also see whether the Add friend button is active. If you see an icon with a human and a plus sign next to it on their profile, it means that you are not friends. Hence, the person has unfriended you.
4. Try third-party websites (at your risk)
Third-party applications are also available to check this data for you. However, these applications aren’t reliable and may store your Facebook data without your permission.
Although apps like Who Deleted Me and Who Unfriended Me are highly popular, we recommend not using them. A major flaw with these apps is that they will only be able to tell you who unfriended you after installing them. If someone unfriended you before you installed the app, you would not get any data about it!
Difference between unfriending, unfollowing, and blocking
Facebook is extremely diverse, and it gives you many options. Unfriending, unfollowing, and blocking are three main actions you can take against a certain user, and although they may seem similar, they have a huge difference between them.
Unfriending: It means that the person has removed you from their friend list. Hence, you cannot see their private posts and photos. You can still see their public profile, DM on Facebook Messenger, search their profile, add them as a friend again.
Unfollowing: It is similar to that on other platforms like Twitter and Instagram. If you unfollow someone, their posts will not appear on your timeline. Something special on Facebook is that even if someone unfollows you, you can still be friends with them. You will still be able to see their profile and interact with them, just not in your timeline.
To check if someone is following you, go to the More tab → tap Followers. You can see everyone following you.
Blocking is the most extreme step. It completely cuts you off from someone. You will automatically be removed as a friend and be unable to view or interact with their public profile. Moreover, you will be unable to chat with them either. However, if you like to keep things private, you can check out our guide on how to hide likes on Facebook.
Can you unfriend and then re-friend on Facebook?
Yes. Once someone unfriends you, you will always have the option to re-friend them unless you have been blocked! However, once unfriended, you will have to send them a request again and wait till they accept it.
That’s it!

How To Fix “Location Not Available” On Iphone (2023)
With Find My, it becomes pretty straightforward to keep track of the locations of friends and loves to make sure they are safe. Deeply integrated with the Apple ecosystem, the app is easy to set up and works seamlessly across iDevices.
Though the Find My app mostly works as expected, there are times when it does go out of track and fails to show the location of your dear ones. But worry not, for this very reason, we’ve jotted down some viable solutions to fix “Location not available on iPhone.
Fix Location Not Available Error on Your iPhone and iPad
Wondering why Find My does not work or stops showing the location of your loved ones? Well, poor internet connection is the major reason why this issue crops up. Besides, glitches related to the app and iOS itself are also responsible for the ill-functioning of the app.
1. Force Quit the Apple Messages App/ Find My and Relaunch
If the Apple Messages app and the Find My app are faced with a temporary glitch, force quitting may help you resolve the issue straight away.
On iPhone with a Home button: double-press on the home button to access the app switcher. Then, swipe up the app cards to kill the associated apps.
On iPhone without the Home Button: swipe up from the home bar to bring up the app switcher. Then, swipe the app cards to force kill the apps.
After that, relaunch the apps to check if you have overcome the problem.
3. Check Your Internet Connection
It is important to have a strong internet connection to access Find My on iPhone on both devices: the device that is tracking and the device that is being tracked. Yeah, if you are dealing with a sloppy internet connection, it could very well be behind the whole chaos. Hence, fix your sluggish connection before moving ahead.
4. Ensure That the Find My Can Use Cellular Data
Knowing that Find My works with an internet connection, make sure that the app is allowed to use your cellular data without any restriction.
Check if the toggle for Find My is turned on. Be sure to turn it on, if it’s not enabled.
5. Reboot Your Device
Most of the time, a quick restart can help you get rid of minor glitches. Therefore, you should not miss out on this mighty effective but pretty simple solution.
On iPhone with the Home Button: Press the power button and then drag the power off slider to turn off your device. After that, press the power button again to restart your iPhone.
6. Reset Network Settings
If your internet connection continues to be below, try resetting it. Since this solution is very effective in resolving poor internet connection, there is a good chance that it will put an end to the issue.
Navigate to the Settings app on your iPhone and tap on General.
Scroll down and tap on “Transfer on Reset iPhone” and then select Reset.
Tap on Reset Network Settings and enter the passcode. Tap on Reset Network Settings again to confirm the action.
Fix Location Not Available Error on Your Friend’s Device
It is not necessary that it’s your iPhone that is behaving weirdly, problems can arise from the second device, which you are tracking, as well. It is possible that the other device is facing the same issues or has been embroiled in some other problems.
1. Check If the Other iPhone has Low Power Mode Enabled
When Low Power Mode is enabled, it restricts all the features such as location tracking that tend to drain the battery. Therefore, make sure to turn off the power-saving mode.
Head into the Settings app on your iPhone.
Tap on Battery and then turn off the toggle for Low Power Mode.
2. Ensure That Location Services is Enabled
If location services is not enabled on your iPhone, you won’t be able to use the Find My app properly.
Open the Settings app on your iPhone and choose Privacy & Security.
Tap on Location Services and then turn on its toggle.
3. Make Sure that the Find My and Messages Can Access Your Location
Turning on Location Services does not mean that it will ensure Find My can access your locations. You will also need to allow the Find My app to use your location. Besides, make sure to let the Apple Messages app access your location as well.
Now, tap on Location Services.
Scroll down and then make sure that both Find My and Messages apps can access your location. Choose the While Using option to let these apps use your location without any hindrance.
The device that is tracking as well as the device that is being tracked needs to have the correct date and time so that the app can fetch the correct location. Now, how do you set the correct date & time? Follow the quick steps below:
Open the Settings app on your iOS device and go to the General section.
Select the Date & Time section and turn on the toggle for Set Automatically.
5. Check If there are Network Issues on the Other device.
As suggested earlier, a strong network connection is a must-have for both devices. Therefore, make sure to check if your network connection is up to the mark. If not, fix it sooner than later.
Wrapping Up…
There you go! Hopefully, you can now view the locations of your dear ones in the Find My app. As I stated above, the app works reliably in showing the real-time locations of your friends. However, it’s not perfect and does face issues once in a while just like any other software.
That’s when the above-explained tips can come in handy in getting rid of the problems. By the way, which one of these has helped you resolve the location not available error in the Find My app?
