Porsche starts out with a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8, itself hardly a weedy engine. Alone, it’s good for 541 horsepower, but then the Cayenne engineers strap on a 134 horsepower electric motor.

Total power is 670 horsepower, therefore, and torque clocks in at a healthy 663 lb-ft. Both the regular SUV and the Coupe version have a 13.1 kWh lithium-ion battery, and they can each do 0-60 mph in 3.6 seconds. Top speed is an electronically-limited 183 mph.

Otherwise, there are the Porsche Ceramic Composite Brakes (PCCB), Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control (PDCC), and Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus (PTV+) all as standard. 21-inch AeroDesign Wheels plus wheel arch extensions are fitted, too, while the Sport Exhaust and rear-axle steering are optional. A 7.2 kW charger is standard, and can recharge both SUVs in 2.4 hours on a 240V, 50-amp circuit.

Inside, 18-way Adaptive Sports Seats are standard, while the rear gets two bucket seats. A three-seater bench is a no-cost option. The Carbon Interior Package is available as part of a Lightweight Sport Package, which also includes 22-inch GT Design Wheels, carbon fiber trim, and more.

If all this is a little too rich for your blood, there’s also a 2023 Cayenne E-Hybrid Coupe being announced today, too. It pairs a 3.0-liter single-turbo V6 engine and an electric motor, for 455 hp and 516 lb-ft of torque. 0-60 mph comes in 4.7 seconds and top speed is 157 mph, and the Sport Chrono Package comes fitted as standard.

Porsche says all three cars should arrive in dealerships in the US sometime in Q1 2023. 2024 Porsche Taycan Turbo S First Drive Review: Electric Excellence

There are electric cars, and there’s the Porsche Taycan. Make no mistake, the Taycan is a very big deal for Porsche and every other performance electric car released in the future. For the sake of simplicity, what started out as the Mission E concept around five years ago has morphed into what is really an electrified and elongated version of the Porsche 911, and that’s all for the better. In the process, though, you can’t miss the chatter around how the Taycan is around $50,000 more than a Tesla Model S Performance model, a car which goes faster to 60 mph, can accommodate five grown adults comfortably, and theoretically has a longer range.

This is where the Taycan enters the fray. From day one, Porsche wanted the Taycan to be a proper Porsche. Specifically, it should be able to tackle the road like a 911, but be as comfortable – and as practical – as a Panamera. Based on my initial test drive of the Taycan, I can verify Porsche has done that precise thing.

The new Taycan will initially be available in two models: the Taycan Turbo and the Turbo S. I drove both cars back-to-back, and no matter which you choose, you get two electric motors – one for each axle – and a large 93.4 kWh battery pack in-between. The Taycan Turbo generates 670-horsepower and 626 pound-feet of torque in over-boost mode and is good for 280 miles of range on the European WLTP cycle (though a lot less by EPA figures); altogether it’s enough to propel the rather heavy Taycan to 60 mph in around 3.2-seconds. The Taycan Turbo S, meanwhile, is the one to get if you want a real speed demon, a car that can potentially shame a Tesla Model S Performance edition in repeat performance given the right circumstances.

The Turbo S offers additional torque and horsepower over the Turbo model in over-boost mode, which is really the only performance difference between the two models. At most you get 750-horsepower and 774 pound-feet of torque, enough for a zero to 60 mph time of 2.6-seconds while reaching the quarter-mile in approximately 10.8-seconds. Due to the stronger power output, the Turbo S has a lower WLTP range of 260 miles. In reality, though, both models deliver an everyday 616-horsepower without the over-boost function in launch mode. Porsche gives the Taycan Turbo S a larger front inverter and some electronic tweaking in order to produce more power. No matter the case, both Taycan Turbo models have a top speed in excess of 160 mph.

In my opinion, the Taycan turbo with “only” 616-horsepower is more than enough for the daily grind. Both cars use a unique two-speed gearbox along with an 800-volt electrical architecture. The former is responsible for the agile responses of the Taycan: first gear is engaged at up to 50 mph, whereupon a taller second gear takes over to maximize range and efficiency. It’s a first in an EV and is only fitting for a performance-oriented EV like the Taycan.

While there’s something to be said for simplicity, I do think having more than a single gear is the real future of EVs. The same could be said for 800-volt architecture, which contributes faster charging, less battery heat, and more compact wiring for better packaging. And by faster charging, this means the ability to top up the batteries in less than 30 minutes: assuming you can find a 270 kW DC fast charging station. Porsche admits developing this electric architecture is costlier than Tesla’s 375-volt system, but it pays dividends in terms of consistent power delivery.

Electric cars are known for their plentiful torque. Even so, the power in the Taycan Turbo S isn’t just consistent and relentless as you push the accelerator pedal: it can be downright violent, to the point of inducing nausea or fear, depending on who you ask. The Taycan is a fast car even in base Turbo trim, while the Turbo S model is, well, ludicrous for lack of a better description.

Outright speed is a given. After all, it was Porsche’s intention to make it feel exactly like a 911. But what really impressed me is the interior design. Unlike Tesla, the Taycan’s interior is a triumph in modern minimalism with better materials and a more luxurious feel, topped off with enough tech to satisfy the most geekiest of geeks. True, the steering wheel is lifted directly from the 911, but it’s hard not to see that as a good thing, and the rest of the cabin design and layout is spot-on. The only physical buttons you’ll see inside are on the doors and steering wheel. Everything else is controllable by a plethora of touchscreens along with intuitive voice controls.

The seating position is very low, which contributes greatly to the sports car-like driving feel. Also like a proper sports car, while the driver and front passenger have more than enough room, it’s a different story in the rear seats. True to form, taller passengers might find the rear quarters slightly claustrophobic and tight by modern standards, but at least you get sufficient cargo room in the trunk – as big as that of a VW Golf – along with a smaller front trunk for a large computer bag.

Ride comfort surprises. Even with 21-inch wheels and lower-profile tires, the standard air suspension does a good job of isolating the cabin from major humps and bumps, even in the Normal or Sport setting. Summoning Sport+ mode is a different story, giving the Taycan the sort of ride similar to a car fitted with street-spec racing coilover suspension. By that I mean stiff, mildly jarring, and yet eager to embrace a winding corner at higher speeds.

Despite all the high-tech components and engineering effort, what boggles my mind is just how the Taycan manages to feel as sporty as a 911 despite the weight penalty. Make no mistake, Porsche’s EV can go like nobody’s business, but no amount of tinkering can overtake the laws of physics on this one. The Taycan may feel light on its feet in a straight line, but you’ll feel the weight of the car once you’re aiming for the apex. And yet, the Taycan can sort itself out without minimal effort or drama.

The added weight and lower center of gravity enable the Taycan to tackle corners you’d initially assume you’d need to slow for, but you do feel the heft of the vehicle. By contrast, the Tesla Model S feels cumbersome at higher speeds while the Taycan feels planted and ready to attack every corner you can throw at it. Also, the two-speed gearbox makes the Taycan feel more exciting. In fact, this feature alone makes it feel like a normal car. Aided by Porsche’s Electric Sport Sound that pipes in some artificial mechanical noise inside the cabin, the Taycan managed to feel like a normal performance car with nothing lost in translation towards electrification.

After an hour or so of thrashing the Taycan, selecting Normal or Range from Sport+ transforms the car from an Autobahn-beating machine to a silent, comfortable, and almost tame daily driver. With this in mind, it’s better than a 911 around town, and you get four doors, impressive cargo space, and proper seats for humans in the back. At this point, the regenerative braking will do most of the anchoring for you. For all its technological might and vast reserves of power, the Taycan is no harder to drive than a compact car.

Porsche did its homework with the Taycan. It’s far from being perfect, but true beauty is not without natural flaws. Tesla can rightly say the Model S is faster or possibly more capable of scaring the bejesus out of everyone in the cabin. But in terms of handling, ride comfort, and overall driving feel, I’d say Elon Musk and the rest of the gang at Tesla have some homework to do.

Porsche Opens Up About Its Web3 Plans

Recently, Porsche unveiled plans to release a 7,500-piece NFT collection based on the classic Porsche 911. It will drop in January 2023, with Hamburg designer and 3D artist Patrick Vogel set to create each piece in the collection. “If a project wants to be successful, it needs to bring people together,” explained Porsche’s Director of Brand Management and Partnerships Deniz Keskin while speaking at the panel. “Web3 is exactly in the same spirit. Porsche isn’t going into the space for some economic reason. We’re going there because we want to engage with you to build something.”

In fact, the German automaker aims to make its NFT designs a decentralized proposition — enabling consumers to have a hand in curating tomorrow’s blockchain assets.

Porsche’s emphasis on community co-creation

People who buy a Porsche NFT will be able to help shape the design of their digital token by choosing a “route” for it, selecting from Performance, Lifestyle, or Heritage options. These routes reflect a particular characteristic of the company’s brand identity, and they will modify the overall design of the NFT itself. In the months following the collection’s release, Vogel will work with user input to ready each NFT as a 3D asset in Unreal Engine 5.

Lars Krämer, Porsche’s manager of innovation and methods, likewise underscored the importance of collaborative NFT creation in the company’s upcoming release. Noting that the team’s Discord channel has shot up to 13,000 active users since the announcement yesterday, Krämer explained that holders will be invited to collaborative input sessions on what future NFT designs might look like or involve.

“The core of the project is the community,” reiterated Krämer. “We want to get into contact with you guys and have co-creation. That’s the goal. I’m looking forward to having the first co-creation session with holders in the future. We can test designs of the artists in the future and bring you guys together with the artists and our whole team.”

Krämer also explained that future NFT utility will involve access to exclusive physical and virtual events and merchandise. Keskin emphasized that some of Porsche’s future Web3 plans are still in flux by design — the goal is very much to evolve the company’s NFT initiatives alongside the community of Porsche enthusiasts.

Relinquishing artistic control

The 3D artist Patrick Vogel, who will create each NFT in the collection, acknowledged that the creation process for Porsche was uniquely Web3 in nature. “Web3 is always about what comes next,” Vogel explained. “You always have this co-creation in mind. It’s different than normal creation in Web2. I love to work with iconic stuff. I love to do really weird art. Colorful, playful. And if Porsche calls you and says, ‘Hey, can you do this?” You say, ‘Of course.’”

Belgian visual artist Vexx, who is also working with Vogel and the Porsche team to create the designs used in the NFT release, added to the sentiment of co-creation: “Giving up artistic control is part of the Web3 mentality. It’s more open. Since I was young, I’ve been posting my art on social media. People copy it — that stuff happens. It’s something you have to embrace and nurture. [With this project,] people will be able to adapt their NFT to [suit] their interests. They can go with whatever style they want.”

Krämer noted that Porsche enthusiasts’ final NFT will be a product of both holder preference and randomization. Porsche fans won’t know what they’re getting even when they specify what route or style they’d like their NFT to be. Like Keskin, Krämer explained that whatever comes next in the Porsche NFT initiative will be influenced by the collaborative sessions they hold with community members.

“We’re really looking forward to getting you to the co-creation sessions to help us decide what ‘season two’ will be,” Krämer said. The team also enticed the audience by offering a POAP opportunity for fans that interact with Porsche’s exhibit at The Gateway: A Web3 Metropolis on Flagler Street. If your e-commerce store isn’t effectively showcasing the ways in which you add value to customers, take the time to make changes to ensure that it does so in a clear and concise manner.

6. Improve the Quality of Your Product Images

According to a recent infographic by NuBlue which looks at ‘The Anatomy Of A Perfect E-Commerce Store,’ customers no longer want to browse a website, they want to experience it.

This, in many ways, couldn’t be closer to the truth and is one of the reasons why we’ve seen a real transformation in the quality and creativity of product images in recent years.

To get straight to the point; if your product photos are low quality and unimaginative, you will lose sales.

Consumers want to see not only the very highest quality images alongside a product, but also those which present it in an in-use setting. You can no longer get away with product images which showcase your goods on a white background – you must take the time to show them being used.

Invest high-quality, creative images and you’ll undoubtedly get this investment back in a higher conversion rate.

See below a great example of pillows depicted primarily in a bedroom setting rather than using the product pack as the main image:

7. Take Time to Perfect Your Product Descriptions

Whilst it may be common sense to most; you’d be surprised at how many e-commerce stores simply use stock product descriptions supplied by the manufacturer of a product.

Not only does this present duplicate content issues, it also offers a less-than-optimal user experience.

There’s a good chance that a user has already touched upon a manufacturer’s stock description at some stage during their buying cycle and for that reason it pays to take the time to perfect your produce descriptions. Yes, a great copywriter won’t come cheap but the resultant increase in conversions from getting descriptions right will outweigh any costs.

Start by compiling a list of your ten most popular products and have a professional copywriter work with you and your team (especially your sales team) to refine and perfect the descriptions. Turn your product descriptions into great stories. Track conversion rates over a monthly period, both before and after rolling out the copy and, in the likely event that you see an increase, you’ll have the confidence to go ahead and invest in having each one of the site’s product descriptions rewritten.

8. Invest in Product Video Content

Video is the closest a consumer can get to a product without actually holding it in their hands, and it’s one of the main reasons why those retailers who make the investment in videos are showcasing significant levels of growth.

When a user is able to see a product up close, they are far more likely to convert; even if they’re not able to physically touch it.

Video goes a long way to bridging the gap between online and offline transactions.

It’s strongly recommend that you initially roll out video content across your top performing products in order to be able to justify the production costs associated with filming and producing.

Always ensure videos are prominent and clearly labelled, and work on a page layout which takes this into account.

9. Use Clear Progress Indicators on the Checkout

In 2024, the average basket abandonment rate was 68% – which means that two-thirds of online consumer who add something to their basket are failing to complete the purchase.

ConversionXL  has done a fantastic job of compiling ‘The Ultimate Guide To Increasing E-Commerce Conversion Rates” which highlights some of the key reasons why so many consumers are filling baskets only later to abandon them.

One of the tried-and-tested ways to reduce this, however, is to utilise clear progress indicators on the checkout for your site as this can help to show consumers how many steps are left in the purchase process or, in the case of simple checkout pages, how far through it you are.

10. Offer Multiple Payment Gateways

Last but not least; always ensure that you offer multiple payment gateways.

It may be simpler for you to only accept PayPal, not every consumer wants to use this payment platform and, as such, it’s important that you offer more than one gateway. Look into options to accept credit and debit cards directly as well as considering newer gateways such as Amazon.

By offering more than one payment gateway, you’re effectively covering all your bases and can ensure that basket and checkout drop-offs are not caused by issues relating to accepted payment methods.

The bottom line is that if your e-commerce store doesn’t tick all of the above boxes, there’s more than likely room for improvement and a real chance to generate additional conversions without growing traffic. Conversion rate optimization is not a one-off project, rather something which needs to be baked into your wider digital marketing strategy. Ultimately, increasing your conversion rate means a better ROI from marketing spend and for that reason alone is why it’s something which no marketer should ignore.

Motorola Moto E 4G Review

Our Verdict

The new Moto E 4G is a worthy upgrade over the original Moto E, with upgrades in every area. For an extra £20 it adds 4G LTE connectivity and a front-facing camera, plus performance and storage improvements. It might not be as fast as the grey-market Doogee F1 Turbo Mini, but this Moto E 4G is a much better deal than the EE Kestrel, making it the best budget 4G phone intended for UK sale we’ve seen.

Motorola has upgraded its super-budget smartphone, the Moto E, for 2024. The new Motorola Moto E has received some useful hardware upgrades for faster performance, and comes in a version with 4G LTE, making it a better buy than the Moto G 4G. (Also see: Best budget smartphones 2024.) 

Motorola Moto E 4G / New Moto E review: Price and availability

Motorola’s 4G Moto E is available now at £109. Note that many networks will also require you to buy a £10 top-up, however. For example, you can buy the Moto E 4G on O2’s network from Amazon for £119. The non-4G model will be available in the US, Latin America and India from 3 March, with other countries to follow. That 3G version will cost $119.99 in the US, but a UK price is not yet known.

At £109 this budget 4G phone goes up against the likes of the EE Kestrel and Doogee F1 Turbo Mini. With some useful hardware upgrades that we’ll outline below, the Moto E is no longer just a cheap phone for first-time or light users, but a proper Android smartphone that is more than capable enough for day-to-day use. Motorola Moto E 4G vs Motorola Moto G 4G

Throughout this review you’ll see how we’ve compared the new Moto E 4G to other budget phones such as the EE Kestrel and Doogee F1 Turbo Mini. The more obvious comparison is to Motorola’s own Moto G, of course. (Also see: Old Moto E vs new Moto E.)  

The Moto G has had a bit of an odd history, first sold as a 3G phone ( mk 1, reviewed), then upgraded to 4G ( mk 2, reviewed), and then a second version was released without 4G (

So ignoring the fact the mk 2 Moto G, which comes with 4G, is now over a year old, is there any reason why you might choose to buy the Moto G 4G over the Moto E 4G? 

In a word: no. 

Sold SIM-free at the Carphone Warehouse for £139, this £30 cheaper Motorola Moto E matches or improves on many of its core specs. Placed on the desk in front of me the difference in size and weight is barely noticeable (the Moto G 4G is just 2g lighter and only 0.7mm thinner). The new Moto E 4G has a newer processor, faster graphics and a larger-capacity battery. Meanwhile, the Moto G 4G has a slightly higher-resolution still-4.5in screen at 1280×720 (326ppi vs the 245ppi of the new Moto E), and an LED flash at the rear. Worth an extra £30? No chance.

Motorola Moto E 4G / New Moto E review: Design & build

The new Moto E 4G is very similar in its design to the original Moto E, with the same curved rear, chunky design that feels good in the hand, and reasonably thin screen bezel. It’s lost one of the two metal bars at the front, now with just the one at the top to hide the speaker. For a budget phone, it looks pretty good. 

Whereas you could change the rear shell on the original Moto E, with this new version you can also change the grippy band that runs around its edge, allowing you to mix-and-match colours and create your own design. Motorola shells and bands are sold separately, though, and the Moto E ships with matching black or white shell and band. (also see Best smartphones 2024 and Best Android phones 2024.) 

A key difference is the slightly larger screen. Now a Kestrel-matching 4.5in rather than the 4.3in we saw in the original Moto E, the Motorola offers slightly more screen space on which to watch videos and play games. The resolution hasn’t changed, though, meaning this qHD (540×960) IPS display has a slightly lower pixel density of 245- rather than 256ppi. Show us the difference and we’ll show you a liar. 

The display itself is good for the price, bright and reasonably clear for a qHD screen. IPS tech means colours are true and viewing angles are good. The Moto E’s screen is now splashproof; it also has an anti-smudge coating and is protected with Gorilla Glass 3. 

Despite the increase in screen size, the new Moto E is just 3g heavier than the original. The reassuringly heavy 145g smartphone is the same width at 12.3mm, which is a tell-tale sign of its budget price, and just a little longer and wider at 66.8×129.9mm.

Motorola Moto E 4G / New Moto E review: Hardware and performance

The new Moto E features several hardware upgrades. It still has a 1.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon chip, but the 410 chip seen here is quad- rather than dual-core. Memory is the same, at 1GB, while storage has doubled to 8GB. As before you can add up to 32GB via microSD. (Neither the memory or storage allocations would be anything to shout about with a flagship phone, but at this price they’re very reasonable.) And where the original featured the Adreno 302 GPU, this new Moto E has the 306. 

We ran the new Moto E 4G through our usual benchmarks and were pleasantly surprised with its performance. Whereas the original managed 608 points in Geekbench 3.0’s multi-core component, the new Moto E recorded 1463. In the single-core component we saw 464 points. In terms of raw performance, that makes it significantly faster than the original Moto E, quite a bit faster than the EE Kestrel, and lagging only the Doogee F1 (but that’s a grey-market phone, and you may prefer to stick with one intended for sale in the UK). 

In SunSpider it lagged those phones with its 1301ms score, but again saw a marked improvement over the original Moto E’s 1877ms. And it was the same story for graphics performance, with the new Moto E 4G turning in 6fps in Manhattan and 13fps in T-Rex (the original managed 5fps in Manhattan and 11fps in T-Rex). In actual use, the new Moto E feels pretty swift in general, but there can be annoying delays when opening apps. There’s also slight hesitancy when navigating around Lollipop, but nothing you won’t quickly get used to.

Motorola Moto E 4G / New Moto E review: Cameras

One of the additions to the new Moto E is a front-facing camera. It’s only a VGA model, and not much cop for selfies (although you can set a timer), but those looking to Skype or video chat through other means will appreciate its presence. 

As before the rear camera is 5Mp, here with a f2.2 aperture, 4x digital zoom and several features such as a burst mode, auto HDR, tap to focus and quick capture. HD (720p) video is supported at 30fps, and there’s also a slo-mo video mode. There’s no LED flash, which is not at all unusual for a budget phone, but it’s a pain if you were hoping to use your phone as a torch.

The results are very much the same as we saw from the original Moto E. Images are generally well exposed, but lack detail and reveal heavy-handed compression when you zoom in and look closely. They’re fine for sharing online, but won’t produce good enlargements for printing to put on the wall.

Video is understandably shaky since there’s no stabilisation. However, it is captured in HD now – 1280×720 as opposed to the 854×480 of the old Moto E. It is much better than the old phone and colours are decent enough, but detail is lacking compared to the best smartphone video (possibly due to compression again) and it isn’t particularly sharp, either:

Motorola Moto E 4G / New Moto E review: Connectivity

Here’s the key change in the new Moto E: for an extra £20 over the original it includes 4G connectivity, operating on LTE bands 1, 3, 7 and 20. You can learn more about 4G in our complete guide to 4G, but suffice to say it is the fastest mobile data standard, and both network coverage and pricing within the UK is getting better all the time. 

Other connectivity specs remain unchanged, and the new Moto E 4G features Bluetooth 4.0 LE, 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi and GPS.

Motorola Moto E 4G / New Moto E review: Software

Whereas the original Moto E ran Android KitKat, the new Moto E 4G has Lollipop version 5.0 out of the box. Amazingly, for such a cheap phone, Motorola is also guaranteeing an upgrade to the next version of Android. Read more about Android M

It’s a reasonably plain implementation of Lollipop, but with some unique Moto software features. It can show notifications without waking the screen, and monitor your activity to create useful new features and functions. Motorola Assist keeps your screen off while you sleep or in a meeting, plus there’s the double-twist gesture we mentioned earlier to launch the camera. Motorola Migrate also features, easing the transition from your old phone, and there’s Motorola Alert, which can share your location with your friends and family.

Motorola Moto E 4G / New Moto E review: Battery life

Motorola has also upgraded the Moto E’s battery. Whereas before it was fitted with a 1980mAh battery it now has 2390mAh. That’s perhaps not a big a jump as it sounds, given the faster hardware, although Android Lollipop *should* be more efficient than KitKat. 

We’ve not had this phone long enough to thoroughly test the battery, but early indications are very good, and we’re sure the ‘E will last a full day with mixed use, just as Motorola claims.
