The stable version is the regular Chrome browser you install from the official Chrome site. This is tested by Google and volunteers and then released for public use. Stable version is the one normally everyone of us using on the computer, generally sufficient for normal internet usage. All other versions are experimental and not completely tested by Google. They may break the websites when viewing and generally used for testing and development purposes.

1. Using Chrome Beta Channel

Chrome beta channel version allows you to play around with new features just before they get released to stable version. This is a safer way to try out newer features compared to developer and canary versions. You will get minor updates for beta version approximately every week and major updates in every six weeks. The features will be available roughly a month before they are available in stable version.

2. Chrome Developer Version

Developer channel version is between the beta and canary channels. Less riskier than canary and more riskier than beta version. It gets update one or two times in a week. The features may still have bugs since they will further go through beta channel for testing before releasing to stable version.

3. How to download Chrome Canary?

Chrome canary version is the bleeding edge version available immediately after the development of new build is done. This essentially means canary version is not tested at all and meant for developers and designers for early testing. This is the combination of Chromium and Chrome developer version you can say like that also. You’ll will probably get the updates every day.

Flags are basically new features added with or without testing to the stable Chrome version. Google Chrome has these features from very long time but some of us didn’t even know about them because they are not added to the settings panel. There are tons of them, some of them are good but some of them are pretty useless though.

To access these experimental features, open up Chrome browser, type “chrome://flags” in the address bar and hit enter. You will see a warning message indicating the potential risk of enabling the flags on the browser.

Enabling Fast Tab Windows Close Flag

You should relaunch Chrome when changing the flag settings. After relaunching you will notice the Chrome tabs and windows are getting closed faster than normal.

Some of the Common Issues with Experimental Stuffs

When you are dealing with non-tested browser then there is 90% chance that you’ll get issues in that. Below are some of the frequently faced issues when using unstable versions or flags:

Recently, there is an issue which have been seen that Adobe Flash plugin conflicts in this browser.

When video plays, some of its parts turn out to be black with pixels.

Chromecast may not work.

Internet may conflict in between.

These are few of them, there could be more. So, it’s recommended to use to stable version of Chrome if you are not a developer building applications or a geek wanting trouble.

Switching Channels Conclusion

Remember using beta or developer versions or experimental flags may delete all of your data, you can lose your security or privacy in different way. If you’re trying these features proceed with caution. Make sure you understand the risk clearly that there could be data loss of yours. It’s a good idea to run these versions in parallel to try out new features withouts affecting your stable working.

Windows is pretty awesome when it comes to letting users test experimental features.

To encourage Windows users to test its new features, Microsoft is updating the Windows Insider Program.

Microsoft’s new Windows Insider program will soon let you test experimental features that may never make it to a public release.

The Windows Insider program provides a way for those who want to help shape the future of Windows to get early access to the latest software.  It allows users to preview new features and applications before they are officially released.

As the name suggests, it’s meant for those who are enthusiastic about Windows and have time to test features that may never work well enough for a wider audience.

More recently, the Windows Insider program has evolved into something closer to an early access program that allows Microsoft to test out new features and services before they are ready for widespread use.

Changes to the Insider Program

The Windows Insider program has long provided a way for Microsoft’s most dedicated and optimistic users to test new features and bet on new Windows releases before they are officially released to everyone.

It’s also been a way for Microsoft to gather feedback from its customers on what they actually want and need in their operating systems. Now Windows 11 users will get a seat at the table.

The Windows Insider Program will be refocused as a “place to incubate new ideas” generally with a long lead-in time according to an announcement made by Windows Insider program lead Amand Langowski.

It is important to remember that the builds we release to the Dev Channel should not be seen as matched to any specific release of Windows and the features included may change over time, be removed, or replaced in Insider builds or may never be released beyond Windows Insiders to general customers.

Beta Channel not left behind

Microsoft may be altering its development process to allow more time for testing and less time for shipping.

The company has been moving toward this transition for a while now, with its software updates often pushed out without fanfare in the Windows Insider program.

But now, Microsoft is indicating that it’s willing to accept more risks in order to get features out faster.

The new Beta Channel is designed to let users test out new features that may never make it into a final release. The primary reason for this is that Microsoft wants to gather feedback from their most valuable customers about how things work.

Now’s a good time to start thinking about what Channel is best for you. We will soon be giving Insiders a window in which they will be able to switch from the Dev Channel to the Beta Channel. Stay tuned for details in the coming weeks.

This means that sometimes features will confusingly appear in the Beta Channel first, even though they’re almost ready for showtime.

The most notable changes will undoubtedly be new features that allow you to test out new features before they’re officially released to the public.

’We are energized by all the feedback we’re seeing from Insiders and excited to use those insights to make Windows 11 even better for our customers.

If you want to switch channels, visit our guide on how to migrate from the Dev channel to the Beta channel.

1. Default Behavior of Chrome – Ask to Enable Flash for Specific Site

This will enable Flash player only on that particular site. When you allow the site to run Flash content, Chrome will automatically add the site in the exception list in the settings. From next time onwards, the site will load the Flash content without asking permission.

But Chrome comes with already installed Flash player and asks your permission before running. Earlier Chrome had a “Allow sites to run Flash” option, which is removed in latest Mac Chrome version. So there are no ways to enable Flash on Chrome on all the sites by default. This is a clear indication that the “Flash” section will be removed soon from the Chrome to encourage sites to use HTML5.

3. Allow or Block Flash for Specific Sites

Now the latest Chrome version has only options to allow or block Flash on specific site. Open the command URL “chrome:settings/content” on the browser’s address bar.

Let us check out all the options to control the Flash settings for your need.

1. Ask first –  This is the default behavior and Chrome will ask you before running Flash as explained above. It is also a recommend option by Google. Disable this to block sites from running Flash by default. When you block Flash content, Chrome will show the below message on Flash enabled sites.

2. Block – add URLs of the sites you want to block Flash content. Use this option when “Ask first” is enabled.

Summary

Below table shows the summary of using Flash options in Google Chrome on Mac. You can choose the suitable combination for your need.

Ask first Block Allow

Completely Block Flash Disable

Completely Enable Flash NA  NA  NA

Ask Before Running on All Sites Enable

Block on Specific Sites and Ask on All Other Sites Enable Enable

Allow Only on Specific Sites and Block on All Other Sites  Disable

We have just marked the completely enable flash option as “NA (Not Applicable)” which essentially means you can’t do this.

Adobe announced the end of Flash support by 2023 and the browsers like Chrome will stop Flash support with similar timeline.
