CHARGE YOUR DEVICE

If your android device powers off due to lack of battery while the process is underway, it could damage the device.

STEP-BY-STEP GUIDE

Make sure you have backed up your phone adequately (including important data stored on internal memory). Also create a nandroid backup using your recovery for additional safety.

You’ll need either CWM or TWRP recovery for installing the CyanogenMod Android 4.4 KitKat ROM on your Galaxy S4 SGH-I337. And since CWM and TWRP recoveries function differently we’ve put together separate guides for both of them. NOTE:

Older versions of both CWM and TWRP recoveries are not working with Android 4.4 based ROMs, throwing installation errors and WiFi bugs, therefore you need to use the latest version of either recovery. We believe TWRP v2.6.3.x and above, and CWM v6.0.4.x and above are working fine with Android 4.4 ROMs.

GUIDE FOR CLOCKWORKMOD RECOVERY (CWM) USERS

Boot into recovery mode. For this:

Power off your device and wait for 5-10 seconds until the device is fully switched off.

└ In Recovery mode, use Volume buttons to navigate Up and Down between options and use Power button to select an option.

Create a Nandroid Backup from recovery. It’s optional but very important to do, so that in case something goes wrong you can restore to current status easily. For making a Nandroid Backup, go to Backup And Restore » Backup.

Perform a Factory Reset (This will delete all apps and their settings and game progress). For this:

Install the ROM file first (Gummy-1.1-11-12-13-UNOFFICIAL-jflteatt.zip). For this:

Now, reboot your device. For this, go back to the main menu of recovery and select reboot system now.

Important Note: Backup important files stored on internal SD card of your device, so that in case a situation arises requiring you to do a factory reset after flashing the CF Auto Root, which might delete internal sd card too, your files will remain safe on PC.

Press and hold these 3 buttons together until you see Warning! screen: Volume Down + Power + Home.

If you don’t get the Added! message, here are some troubleshooting tips:

Make sure you have installed driver for Galaxy S4 as said above in ‘Before you begin..’ section.

If you have already installed driver, then uninstall them and reinstall back.

Connect using a different USB port on your PC.

Load the firmware file (extracted in Step 1) into Odin as instructed below:

Now in the Option section of Odin, make sure that Re-Partition box is unchecked. (Auto Reboot and F. Reset Time boxes remain checked, while all other boxes remain unchecked.)

Double check the above two steps (Step 6 and Step 7).

If you see FAIL message instead of the PASS in Odin’s top left box, that’s a problem. Try this now: disconnect your Sprint Galaxy S4 from PC, close Odin, remove phone’s battery and put it back inside in 3-4 seconds, open Odin and then repeat from Step 2 of this guide again.

New Twrp Recovery For Moto X, Works Cool With Android 4.4 Kitkat Ota Update

Well, Motorola just surprised us for good by launching the new Android 4.4 KitKat update already, which is incredibly quick, for the Moto X.

But, due to changes in KitKat’s code, the old TWRP doesn’t work anymore. While we’re sure TWRP team will be hard at work and would bring the new version of the recovery soon, the good news is that developer Hashcode has already come up with a solution and has modified the version 2.6.3.1 of the TWRP recovery, not the latest btw, to work with Android 4.4.

So, if you have updated to Android 4.4, you can flash this modified TWRP v2.6.3.1 by hashcode to bring back the TWRP to action.

Note: Your Moto X needs to be bootloader unlocked for this, and you must have proper and working drivers installed.

You need to unlock bootloader of your Moto X first to be able to install TWRP recovery. Since unlocking bootloader would completely wipe (delete everything) on your Moto X, be sure to backup your phone adequately before attempting to unlock bootloader and install custom recovery.

Prepare your phone:

Enable developer options: Go to your phone’s Settings » select About phone » Scroll to the bottom and tap on “Build number” seven times to enable developer options.

Enable USB Debugging: Open phone’s Settings » select Developer options » Tick the “USB debugging” checkbox (under Debugging section).
