How To Easily Digitize Your Handwritten Notes

Handwritten notes can be filled with history, and if you have tons of these, you are probably wondering if there are ways to digitize them. Yes, there are, and this article will show a few ways to preserve your handwritten notes by converting them to digital format.

1. Enter Your Notes Manually

The easiest, yet hardest, approach to digitizing your handwritten notes is to enter them manually in a computer. This probably isn’t your idea of digitalization, but for just a few pages this isn’t a huge hassle.

For instance, I frequently write down ideas on paper as they come, and depending on what the idea is about (e.g. work, a to-do, home improvements, etc.), I then put it in the respective file where I keep notes about that particular topic. I do the same with phone numbers – I have a file for them, and when somebody changes their number or I add somebody new, their phone number goes into a chúng tôi file. Manually entering your notes is primitive but works like a charm, if you develop the habit for it.

2. Scan Your Notes

The good old scanner is another alternative to try. There are portable and desktop scanners, and their abilities vary. For large volumes of notes, scanning can be pretty time-consuming, especially with a slow scanner.

3. Use Your Smartphone

If you don’t have a scanner, you can also use your smartphone’s camera to take a picture of your notes. It’s not less time consuming than scanning and the image gets skewed, which makes OCR more prone to errors, but it’s still an option to preserve your handwritten notes in a digital form.

4. Get a Smart Pen and/or a Graphic Tablet

A much easier way to get digital notes is with the help of a smart pen or a graphic tablet. The downside is that you have to purchase them separately, which if you don’t have many notes, isn’t feasible. Smart pens cost $150 – $200 and more, which is way too much just for occasional note-taking.

5. Use a Notepad App

Once you have a digital image of your notes taken with a scanner, smartphone, standalone camera or whatever you decide on, you can try an app, such as Evernote or OneNote, to organize your notes. These apps have OCR, though how successful the recognition is depends on many factors, for instance, how peculiar your handwriting is. If your handwriting is tough to read, don’t count on flawless searchable notes, but in other cases these apps help to make your notes searchable and organized neatly in notebooks.

Once you digitize your notes, there is one more very important step to take – back them up on a good media (don’t forget to check the media and the backup for errors), and put them in the safest place possible. If you fail to store them securely, all your efforts will be in vain.

4 Ways To Convert Youtube Video To Text Or Transcript

Whether you’re uploading a YouTube video for the first time, or already have a channel populated with videos, you may want to consider converting those YouTube videos to text. Why? Well, there are several reasons creators may want to do this.

Table of Contents

Transcripts and captions also increase your video’s accessibility for the disabled and help users facing issues with playing sound on YouTube. Plus, captions can help improve a viewer’s experience with your video even if they don’t have a disability.

The good thing is, converting YouTube videos to text isn’t very difficult. There are four ways of converting a YouTube video to text or transcript.

1. Convert YouTube Video to Text Using the Built-In Transcription Tool

YouTube has a built-in tool for converting your YouTube videos to text. It’s free and built right into the interface, so it’s only logical that this is the option you’d want to use as a go-to in most cases.

YouTube generates captions using its speech recognition tech, and you can also extract the transcript once the captions are generated. However, the accuracy can be a little off, so you may need to make some changes in the text.

Log into your YouTube account and head over to YouTube Studio. Select Subtitles from the left sidebar.

Select a video you want to convert to text. On the next screen, choose a language and select Confirm.

You’ll see that YouTube will automatically create a transcript for you, that you can edit on the next screen. To edit the text, select DUPLICATE AND EDIT.

This will open a dialog box where you’ll be able to edit the transcription. Once you’re done editing, select the PUBLISH button.

Notice how the text lacks punctuation. Words are also all lowercase. You’ll need to fix the punctuation and capitalization manually.

You can also view the transcript once it’s published from the video page. Go to the video page and select the ellipsis at the bottom of the video. Select Open transcript and you’ll see the transcript at the right of the video.

It’s always a good idea to do a quick grammar check on transcripts generated by YouTube, because they’ll almost always need some fixing. If YouTube failed to generate subtitles for a particular video, it’s probably because your video has poor audio quality or in a language not supported by YouTube.

2. Convert YouTube Video to Text Using Third-Party Transcription Tools

Automatic transcription tools are one of the fastest, most efficient ways of converting a YouTube video to text. You can use them to transcribe pretty much everything from videos to audio-only content like podcasts.

There’s only one caveat, though. Most decent transcription tools cost money. They either charge a monthly or annual subscription fee, or charge a per-minute or per-hour rate.

If you want to take one of these tools for a spin before you commit by investing in a subscription, you can use the ones that offer a trial. For instance, you could try Temi. It allows free transcription for audio of up to 45 minutes.

Go to Temi’s website and select the Select audio/video file button.

Let Temi process your file. This could take a while depending on how long the file you’ve uploaded is.

Once it completes processing, Temi will ask for your email. The transcript will be sent to you over an email.

The benefit of using a good video to text tool is the accuracy. They can transcribe videos with a clear voice and little to no background noise with roughly 90% (or more in some cases) accuracy.

3. Convert YouTube Video to Text Using Video Editors

When you use a video editor for polishing your YouTube video, it’s possible that the editor also has a transcription tool. Of course, not every video editor has video-to-text functionality. But you can always use an editor just to convert YouTube videos to text, or do a little more if you so wish.

For instance, VEED has a video-to-text tool that allows you to generate transcriptions for your YouTube videos.

Go to VEED’s video-to-text page and select the Choose Video button.

Enter the link to your YouTube video in the bottom field in the dialog box, and select the page icon at the right end of the field.

Let the tool import the video. When it’s done, you’ll need to choose Auto Subtitle to continue.

Then, select a language that the audio is in and select Start.

On the next screen, you’ll see the subtitles for your YouTube video and a few other video editing options, in case you need to do some trims or splits on the video.

4. Convert YouTube Video to Text Using Google Docs

Did you know that Google Docs can also help you convert YouTube videos to text? It has a built-in voice dictation tool that can get the job done. However, the option is only available on Chromium-based browsers like Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge.

You can go about using the voice typing tool in two ways.

First, you can turn on the Voice typing feature, play the video like you normally would, and let Google Docs do the rest.

However, there’s a possibility that there are some disturbances in the background or that the audio echos. To remedy this, you’ll need to tweak a few settings on your PC first.

That’s where the second method comes in. You can change the sound settings on your PC so it will internally listen to the audio without you having to use the speakers.

Since the first method is a subset of the second method, we’ll illustrate the second method here. If you want to use the first method, start from step 3.

At this point, the sound from whatever you play on your computer will be directly relayed to the tool that is using your microphone—Google Docs in this case.

You’ll now see a mic icon appear on the document. Select the mic icon when you want Google Docs to start listening and transcribing. Then, play the YouTube video you want to convert to text.

Remember that you can’t navigate away from the Google Docs tab while you’re using the tool, or it will stop transcribing.

If you’re using the stereo mix method, you’ll only need to play the video. But if you’re using your speakers, make sure you don’t place them too close or too far away from the mic.

If possible, do a trial run by recording a few minutes of audio from your speakers beforehand to make sure the voice isn’t too loud or slow. If it is, adjust the placement of the speakers and the mic. The better the quality of the audio, the more accurate will be the transcription.

Ready to Read Your Videos?

Hopefully, you were about to convert your YouTube videos to text using one of these methods. You can also hire someone to manually transcribe videos for you, but that can sometimes be expensive and time-consuming. If you regularly create YouTube videos, you should also know a few handy YouTube hacks, in addition to how to convert YouTube videos to text.

Which Industries Can Benefit From Text To Speech Technology?

In this post, I will highlight some of the best uses with text to speech technology and how it really is causing breakthroughs in certain industries.  Keep in mind that these are not certainly the only industries, because there are a lot of industries that are benefitting from this technology.

I have included some of the major impacts that text to speech is having on some of the biggest industries in the world.  It will obviously continue to have a huge positive impact on these industries and others that are not listed.

Learning disabled children struggle to learn this skill right away, and there are practical uses for a text to speech converter to step in and aid them with their reading.  Not only can text to speech help learning disabled people, but it can help other conditions and disorders like dyslexia.

Learning and education are one of the biggest beneficiaries of this technology and it will likely continue to adapt and improve for the better of the industry.

Have you ever been to a large gathering of people or busy places and an automated message is coming from the main speakers?  Well, there is a good chance that text to speech technology is at work.

It makes sense for people to use this for public announcements instead of having a person say a message over and over.  It is also probably cheaper for the establishment because they do not need to pay a person to sit there and say things into the microphone.

An automated message that uses text to speech conversion technology is beneficial to both the company and the people inside.

The last industry that I will mention is the automotive industry.  If you have an old car and have not been in a new one, then be ready for your mind to be blown.  A lot of newer cars in the last 5 years or so have adapted to use text to speech.

Their technology is incredible in many ways, and it has made the user experience something to remember.  A car uses text to speech conversion tools to let the driver know about something and keep the driver’s eye on the road.

Instead of a bunch of words on a screen that could be distracting, the text to speech converters works to reduce the risk of distractions and still let the driver know about anything that is necessary.  It is pretty cool to think about how text to speech is saving lives and improving them at the same time.

If you found this post helpful, then please share it with anyone that is interested in the main industries that are affected by text to speech converter

Even the travelers use the text to speech technology while traveling in a country where people do not speak english. Text to speech helps the traveler to type and explain what he or she is trying to say.

Moreover, this feature is very accurate and helps the travelers in various ways. Google and Apple have trained their TTS technology a lot and the accent, pronunciation matches with that of the locals of the specific country, however this may vary in some languages.

Have you seen a small audio bar icon in some top news sites? Well, some sites use a pre recorded audio in a human’s voice while some sites make use of the TTS technology to convert text into audio.

One can use this feature to listen to news while doing his or her work or sipping a hot cup of coffee.

Moreover, media industries prefer TTS over a voice over as TTS is a free to use technology whereas hiring a voiceover artist is quite expensive. Also, there are no chances of error.

Audiobooks are a new way of consuming content in the form of audios. One can complete a book without having to read it and do it while traveling, playing, or doing household chores.

Some audiobook companies use the TTS technology to convert text novels into audio form.

However, the only con of this is that the audio tone is flat, which is not as pleasing as a human narrating the novel.

The TTS technology is definitely a better way to convey our messages which are in textual form. This technology has been adapted by various industries however, everything has its own pros and cons, TTS technology too has some flaws such as lack of emotions, flat tone and inaccuracy in pronunciation.

Difference Between Contact Lens And Glasses

Various alternatives are available to people with vision issues to help correct their vision and enhance eye health. Because they are quick and easy to use, many people choose contact lenses or eyeglasses.

However, surgical procedures are also accessible. Due to a common issue called refractive error, which blurs vision, people require glasses or contacts. What causes some individuals to choose contact lenses over glasses for their eyes, while others select the inverse?

In this article, we will learn, apart from appearance, how they are different from each other.

What are Contact Lenses?

The substitute for glasses are contact lenses. A lens is a medicinal, aesthetic, or corrective lens often inserted into the eye’s cornea. You can see more clearly because these tiny discs rest right in your eye.

Contacts come in a variety of forms nowadays, such as daily−use eyewear, Everyday disposables, long−lasting lenses, and also in a variety of colors. Over 150 million individuals worldwide use contact lenses, an ocular prosthetic. Looks and cosmetics are the main drivers for people trying to avoid wearing glasses or who wish to alter the appearance or color of their eyes.

Others use contact lenses for visual or practical purposes. Contact lenses often offer greater peripheral vision than glasses and don’t retain sweat or moisture from precipitation (rain, snow, fog, etc.). Because of this, they may be preferred for outdoor sports and other activities.

In addition, contact lens wearers don’t need to worry about compatibility with glasses or get their preferred eyewear fitted with prescription lenses to wear sunglasses, goggles, or other eyewear.

What are Glasses?

Millions of people use glasses daily, making them a standard in vision correction.Depending on your demands, glasses can be used for various things. There are two major types− single−vision lenses and multifocal lenses. Multifocal lenses are perfect if you have progressive, trifocal, or bifocal lenses.

Glasses are simple to use; all you have to do is put them on, and you’re good to go. They don’t need any special cleaning agents, only minimal upkeep. Simply taking off your lenses will give you a break from wearing them.

In addition to being easily accessible, spectacles may be adjusted. You can get a set of glasses customized to your taste and visual requirements.

Similarities Between Contact Lenses and Glasses

The purpose of both contact lenses and glasses is to address refractive problems that impair your ability to see clearly. Refractive faults such as myopia (nearsightedness) and hyperopia (farsightedness) can be treated using glasses or Lenses.

The use of contact lenses and glasses can help with vision correction.

Both need to be maintained and cleaned carefully.

Differences Between Contact Lenses and Glasses

The following table highlights how Contact Lenses are different from Glasses −

Categorization Contact Lenses Glasses

Basis of Definition Thin lenses that are applied directly to the contact of the eyes are known as contacts or simply contacts. People wear contact lenses, which are visual prosthetic implants. Frames with lenses worn in front of the eyes are known as glasses or spectacles. They are and typically worn for vision correction, eye protection, or UV ray protection.

Basis of Placement Contact lenses rest directly on the eyes. Glasses rest on the bridge of the nose.

Basis of Flexibility Individuals cannot change their contacts frequently as it is more time−consuming. Individuals can change different glasses as per their requirements and usage.

Basis of Duration Prolonged contact lens use can raise your chance of developing an eye infection Wearing Glasses for a long period will not cause any eye infections.

Basis of Temperature Contacts doesn’t fog up with temperature changes. Glasses fog up with changes in temperature.

Basis of Comfort Contacts are comfortable as there’s no weight put on ears and nose, they also don’t require any adjustments or tightening. Glasses are uncomfortable as faces and ears are weighed down. They regularly require tightening or other adjustments.

Basis of Usage Lenses don’t cause any distractions. During certain events, glasses can cause distraction as it covers certain parts of the eyes

Contact Lenses can be worn for a specific period. In contrast, glasses can be worn at any period and have no limit compared to lenses.

Contact Lenses need to be dipped in a liquid solution when not in use. Whereas, Glasses can be simply put in their spectacle box.

Contact Lenses are made from chemical substances and have a high risk of infections, such as issues with the cornea, the eyelid, and the eye’s dryness. At the same time, this is not the case with glasses.

Conclusion

Both contact lenses and eyeglasses have benefits and drawbacks regarding vision correction. Before choosing between the two, users may want to think about their money, interests, and lifestyle. To provide the best selection, there are numerous brands and services offered.

Alternative options include more enduring surgical procedures like laser eye surgery or lens implants.

How To Convert Measurements Within Firefox

First, you’ll need to install the add-on, then restart Firefox.

Upon restarting, you can now navigate to the web page where you have measurements for conversion. In the example below, I wanted to convert a length measurement of 1/8 of an inch.

One thing to remember about this add-on is that the free version won’t let you customize what unit of measurement it will convert to. Generally, it uses a common unit that’s closest to the one being converted. In the example above, inches were converted to millimeters, and millimeters to centimeters. To control which units the add-on converts to, you can purchase the Premium version starting at $8.

One exception to this rule are currency conversions. If you want to automatically convert an amount to a default currency, you can do so by going to the Options page and selecting a preferred currency.

This add-on converts almost all units, currencies and even time zones, as long as they are properly formatted using the unit’s symbol (“ vs. inch, $ vs. dollars).

Converter is a great tool if you want to immediately see an alternate unit of measurement without leaving a web page. Although the features are limited for the free version, it doesn’t lessen its usefulness.

The great thing about it is it’s ready to convert, and there’s little configuration needed for it to work. The most notable feature is being able to convert all measurements in a page, which is a huge time-saver. That alone cuts the work into half, so this add-on is definitely worth the download.
