Guardian Angels fly in to Among Us Cosmicube update

And InnerSloth want to take your money for Boba… But it’s because they love you. Sus.

In an emergency crewmate meeting tonight, InnerSloth really pushed the boundaries of just how much news you can fit into five minutes. If you were expecting a short update… think again. Here’s everything from the patch notes of the Among Us Cosmicube update.

If you have previously ejected yourself from the lobbies of Among Us, it might be time to try and get yourself back on board. InnerSloth have announced the huge new Cosmicube update to the game which, frankly, changes everything you thought you knew about crewmates. Seems fitting.

Cosmicube Achievements

If you were watching the update video and thought it was some Kevin the Cube crossover with Fortnite, you weren’t alone. Alas, not yet, although a rumor is still circling. Instead, Cosmicubes are achievement roadmaps! That’s right, achievements are now in Among Us, and Cosmicubes open up a whole new world of Among Us progression.

Now, it’s hard to know where to start with this update news, as everything kind of intertwines. But cosmicubes now bring us to Beans and Stars, the new Among Us currencies. And if you’re brain is already frazzled, this is just a fraction of how insanely intense the five-minute annoucement video is.

Beans, Stars and opening Cosmicubes

So, Beans are a free in-game currency which can be earned by completing tasks, killing crewmates and guessing correctly just how sus your crewmates are. With Beans, you will then be able to buy some cosmetic items from the new in-game shop, and you’ll be able to buy some Cosmicubes, which I guess are kind of like mini battle passes. For example, the Polus Cosmicube can be unlocked for 3,000 Beans, and as you complete Polus challenges, you will unlock new cosmetic items. Make sense so far?

Now, InnerSloth, my subheading is all in jest. I do really believe that you want our hard-earned money to make the game better. Game devs’ time ain’t free, after all. And that brings us to Stars, the paid-for Among Us currency. Stars co-exist with Beans, but will buy you exclusive, paid-for cosmetic items, and otherwise unobtainable Cosmicubes. For example, the Airship Cosmicube cannot be unlocked with Beans. Instead, it will set you back 90 Stars. This will then allow you to unlock even more cute hats and new visor accessories.

Crewmate customization

And that brings me on to crewmate cosmetics. Among Us’ adorable little hats and pets have always been one of the most entertaining things to mess around with in InnerSloth’s social deduction game. They’ve kept us all busy as we’ve waited for our ship to dock, taking hilarious screenshots and fighting with our friends over who is going to get the red skin. Now, crewmate customization goes to a whole new level with so many more items to choose from, buy and earn, including those new visor accessories.

So, I think that’s part one of the Among Us Cosmicube Update kind of covered. Again, it was a lot in a very short time and is brain-melting. Like standing too close to that Polus lava pit.

Among Us patch notes — new roles

Forget Among Us as you once knew and loved it… the next incredible announcement is completely game-changing. New. Roles.

If you already found it hard enough to plead your innocence with just two roles, this update might not be for you. There are four new roles to help get you ejected for being helpful.

The Scientist will carry around their own little vitals machine, and will be able to check it at any time, from anywhere in the map. This means you can tell as soon as someone is taken out. I’m not hugely sure how helpful this will be, but it will give you the chance to try and catch someone in the act, or deduce who the Imposter might be from their whereabouts at a certain time.

Engineers will be able to access vents. Yep. Well, if this isn’t just going to make crewmates look sus and give Imposters an excuse when they’re caught out. Surely it can’t be all negative? Engineers can at least travel across the map quickly, again potentially catching people red-handed. Especially when those doors start to get closed.

The Shapeshifter Imposter role is pretty self-explanatory, really. As a Shapeshifter, you can take on the disguise of another crewmate. Perhaps one you’ve just killed, or someone you might want to pin the blame on. This is another great one for Imposters, especially anyone who always times it badly and gets caught out.

Guardian Angel

Finally, a new role that doesn’t aid the Imposters. The majestic Guardian Angel. This role is given randomly upon death, and allows you to protect the remaining crewmates. As a Guardian Angel, you can shield a fellow crewmate from death which, erm, kinda stuffs the Imposter up. As long as you can get to the big, red button in time…

Phew! That’s pretty much it, I think. But in case you’re unsure of anything in this patch notes run down, here’s the full five-minute announcement video.

Among Us patch notes — Cosmicube release time

Believe it or not, the Among Us Cosmicube update is live now. As in, someone hit the button at some point during the announcement. InnerSloth apparently don’t like to give us much warning.

Is Among Us on Xbox or PlayStation?

While, at the moment, you can only play the Among Us Cosmicube update on Switch, PC or mobile decides, the popular social deduction game is coming to Xbox and PlayStation just in time for Christmas. You can pre-order now, with the release date set as December 14th, 2023.

Iphones And Ipads Remain The Top Pick Among Us Teenagers

Despite Samsung’s attempt to label the iPhone as past its prime, Apple remains the top pick among US teenagers. More than half of American teens own an iPhone with nearly three quarter of young people choosing an iPad when it comes to tablets.

When it comes to purchasing decisions, popularity of cheaper Android devices have barely moved the needle, if at all. The figures from Piper Jaffray’s Gene Munster bode well for Apple and its continued growth among the key consumer demographic now driving technology purchases…

Munster said, via MacRumors:

Our most recent semi-annual Teen survey demonstrates that Apple remains the most popular tech brand amongst teens. As of Fall 2013, the iPhone represented nearly 55 percent of all phones used by teens and the iPad family remained at close to 70 percent share of tablet ownership.

Apple’s brand and product quality prevented Samsung from making much headway amongst these consumers, according to the analyst. According to Munster, the percentage of US teens owning iPhones continues to increase.

The analyst’s latest semi-annual teen survey found 55 percent of teens surveyed owned an iPhone, up from 48 percent in April. The iPad is also the most common tablet brand teens own, with preference going to the larger model.

The iPad represented 68 percent of the 56 percent of US teens who have tablets. Preference still gives the larger Apple tablet a huge lead over the iPad mini by 60 percent to a meager eight percent, respectively.

Although the level of iPad ownership in the fall of 2013 remained the same as we saw in April, there is a slight shift toward the smaller iPad mini, according to Munster. The current 60/8 percent split among the iPad and iPad mini now seen differs from the earlier 63/5 percent the survey registered in April.

As for which smartphone and tablet US teens plan to purchase over the next six months, the iPhone and iPad again see increases over Android. Some 65 percent of American teens said they intend to buy an iPhone in the next six months, up from 62 percent. Just 24 percent of teens said they intend to buy an Android smartphone, up only 1 percent from April.

There could be a better opening for Android tablets. While 64 percent of teens said they plan to buy either the iPad or iPad mini in the next half year, that’s down from 68 percent in April. Plans to buy an Android tablet grew to 28 percent, up from 24 percent.

“For those teens who expect to purchase a tablet in the next 6 months, 64 percent said they plan to buy an iPad, thus it appears that Apple should be able to maintain its tablet share,” Munster told investors.

Although the iPad mini’s popularity is increasing, “based on the purchase intent for teens, it appears that the full-sized iPad remains highly desired.”

Future design and pricing changes could improve the mini’s demand, he adds.

Apple last month launched its new iPhone 5s with Touch ID fingerprint scanning and the colorful iPhone 5c in the United States and ten major markets around the world.

The company plans to roll out the new iPhones in more than 37 new markets, starting with 25 new countries on October 25 and an additional dozen new markets on November 1. Earlier, the company announces nine million iPhone 5s/5c sales during the opening weekend.

Six days later, Apple will deliver its quarterly earnings release.

How To Install Us Cellular Galaxy S4 Lollipop Update

At last the Galaxy S4 users at US Cellular have the Android 5.0 Lollipop update treat available. It’s a long wait no doubt, almost nine months since Lollipop was released. While other Galaxy S4 sets received the update way earlier, it was poor from US Cellular to delay the update for so long.

This is also perhaps the last update US Cellular Galaxy S4 will see, as there are very slim chances of Android 5.1 making it to the device. And absolutely no chances of an Android M update for US Cellular S4.

If you can’t install OTA update, or haven’t received the Lollipop OTA yet, you can still update your US Cellular S4 to Android 5.0 by downloading and installing the full firmware manually.

Just look at the guide below, which will help you in using Odin PC software to install and update your USC S4 to Android 5.0.

Supported devices

Don’t try this on any other Samsung Galaxy S4 or any device than model no. R970!

Don’t try on any other device whatsoever!

Disclamer: Installing an official firmware through Odin doesn’t void your device’s warranty, but it remains an unofficial process and thus you need to be cautious of it. In any case, you only are responsible for your device. We won’t be liable if any damage occurs to your device and/or its components.

Backup important files stored on your device before proceeding with the steps below, so that in case something goes wrong you’ll have backup of all your important files. Sometimes, Odin installation may delete everything on your device!

Download the Odin software and firmware file from above for your US Cellular S4.

You should get the a file in chúng tôi format now. We will be loading this file into Odin, to be installed on your Galaxy S4 (in step 10 below).

Extract the Odin file. You should get this file, Odin3 chúng tôi (other files could be hidden, hence not visible).

Disconnect your S4 from PC if it is connected.

Boot USC Galaxy S4 into download mode:

Power off your S4. Wait 6-7 seconds after screen goes off.

Press and hold the three buttons Volume Down + Power + Home together until you see warning screen.

Press Volume Up to continue to download mode.

Connect your Galaxy S4 to PC now using USB cable. Odin should recognize your S4. It’s a must. When it recognizes, you will see Added!! message appearing in the Log box in bottom left, and the first box under ID:COM will also show a no. and turn its background blue. Look at the pic below.

You cannot proceed until you get the Added!! message, which confirms that Odin has recognized your device.

If you don’t get Added!! message, you need to install/re-install drivers again, and use the original cable that came with device. Mostly, drivers are the problem (look at step 2 above).

If Odin gets stuck at setup connection, then you need to do steps 6 to 12 again. For this, close Odin, disconnect your device, remove battery, insert it back after 5-6 seconds and then start from step 6 again.

That’s it. Enjoy the Android 5.0.1 OE2 update firmware, on your US Cellular Galaxy S4!

A Psa On How Not To Fly Drones

Yep, that’s me crashing a quadcoptor on live national television last week. Hovering one moment, careening into an innocent cameraman the next.

At Popular Science we talk, read, and write a lot about drones. We put them on our magazine covers and a few of us fly them. We see huge promise in the devices, and the communities that use them. So when Fox & Friends invited us on last week to talk drone safety, I agreed to help.

Here’s how it went down.

The night before the segment, a producer gave me a ring. Could I fly a drone in the studio for visual effect, she asked? Yes. I’m not a professional pilot, but I’m no slouch, either. I’ve flown a number of drones over the years, and–after a polishing up in the office the night before–I felt confident I could levitate one while answering a TV anchor’s questions. That was my first mistake.

The next morning, I arrived at the studio, DJI Phantom 2 Vision+ in hand, and walked the show’s engineer through the specifics. As I screwed in the propeller guards, I told him it’d create a lot of noise and wind. So, we’d need plenty of room, and I’d hover it for maybe 20-30 seconds before touching down. I also showed him the drone’s live video feed from a tablet. Could he film this? Yes, I said. Call that my second mistake.

Then came the segment. All was going well: I hovered the drone off the ground and Steve Doocy, one of the anchors, held my tablet for the cameras. Then things started going… not so well. Over the years, I’ve grown accustomed to a first-person flying view. By giving Doocy the tablet, I seriously compromised my flying abilities. After a few seconds of hovering, the drone started drifting toward a camera. I tried to rotate and move away, but instead sent it hurtling out of the studio lights and into the darkness. Not my best moment.

The cruel irony of crashing a drone during a TV segment about drone safety hasn’t escaped me. (Thanks for being kind, Gizmodo and CNET.) What’s worse: The DJI Phantom 2 Vision+ is essentially the same model a government worker crashed on the White House lawn in January. And he was drunk.

Regardless of how you feel toward government regulation of drone use, the reality is that safety is an issue, and we need to talk about it. Should we go on live TV and crash drones while doing so? Of course not.

In hindsight, I would have been wise to practice what I preached and study, for example, the “Know Before You Fly” campaign, which the AMA, AUVSI, Small UAV Coalition, and FAA pulled together last year in anticipation of everyone becoming a drone pilot after Christmas. It’s not the final word on safe drone operation–practice makes perfect–but it’s a good place to start before you even think of picking up a drone, much less fly one in front of millions of viewers.

Tool School: Let The Sparks Fly

While Letterman’s Grinder Girls proved that the best use for an angle grinder is to let beautiful women in bondage gear make sparks, it’s actually one of the more versatile tools you can keep in the shop. Of course, with great power comes great responsibility: Get too trigger happy and you can quickly destroy your project and your fingers. Here’s your crash course to wielding one of the more badass of the handheld power tool genre.

What: Angle Grinder

Why: There are few faster ways to abrasively remove material from steel, expecially with something handheld.

Where: $20 at Harbor freight, $100 for a name brand at Home Depot, and $200 for a sweet Metabo like mine. A Harbor Freight grinder literally caught fire in my hands. A series of DeWalt grinders from Home Depot lasted for a while, but eventually broke again and again and again. I’ve owned my Metabo for years and I can run it all day without discomfort because it vibrates so little. You get what you pay for. That said, you can destroy 10 Harbor Freight grinders before you’ve paid for a Metabo. If you are only going to have one grinder in your ship, I’ve found the 4.5-inch size to be the most useful.

When: Really, as infrequently as possible. There are better, quieter, and less messy ways to remove metal, but when you need one, you need one. They are ideal for de-burring, rounding corners, some shaping, and even sharpening drill bits when you are in the field. They are indispensable for fixing fitment issues when you go to assemble and weld.

Who: You, if you ever work with metal at all.

Angle Grinder

Metabo 4 1/2″ Angle Grinder. Nice, but spendy.

Angle Grinding 101

As with power tools, always wear the proper safety equipment and pay attention to your environment. Wear safety glasses and hearing protection. Sparks fly everywhere and don’t mix well with eyeballs: Strongly consider wearing a flip down face shield.

The angle grinder is about as simple as a tool can get. There is a housing, a handle, and a motor that spins as fast as 11,000 rpm. To the shaft of that motor, wheels of various types—almost all abrasives of one kind of another—are attached.

The angle grinder is great for doing some quick shaping and metal removal. I often use it to roughly round off corners and remove burrs from shearing or cutting. Just as you would with a sander on wood, keep it moving and try not to dig in. It can remove a lot of metal in a hurry, and if you are not careful, you’ll make a mess of your workpiece. Go lightly.

If you find that you are using the angle grinder to remove a large amount of material, it is time to rethink what you are doing. There are other ways to remove a lot of metal, and almost all of them are cleaner and quicker than the angle grinder. Look at plasma cutting, oxy-acetylene cutting and a band saw or port-a-band.

Advanced Angle Grinding

Grinding wheels are just the beginning. Take a look at flap wheels (not worth the money in most cases in my opinion, but still neat), cutoff wheels, flat sanding discs with a backing wheel and wire wheels.

Cutoff wheels can make quick work of small cuts, especially those where it is impractical to get a cutting torch or band saw into position. I often use cutoff wheels to dig myself out of the mess if I have some tack welds that need to be cut out so that I can adjust something.

Sanding discs and the corresponding backing pad are the most useful application of an angle grinder, in my opinion, and spend far more time on mine than do grinding wheels. The backing pad will help you to make a flat surface with your grinding and the sanding discs are far less aggressive than a grinding wheel, leaving a smoother finish.

A lot of people love flap wheels. They behave like a refined version of the flat sanding discs and are undeniably nice. However, in my experience, they never last very long, and they are far more expensive.

Wire Wheels on the angle grinder are great for the brave among you. Hundreds of little tiny wires attached to a wheel spinning at thousands of RPMs—eventually a few come loose and become projectiles that have no problem penetrating cotton shirts and even jeans. I use them from time to time out of necessity and/or stupidity to remove paint, galvanization and rust. I was removing under coating from an old car body with a wire wheel on a Harbor Freight grinder when the grinder caught fire. I far prefer the cupped wire wheels, both for their effectiveness and their ability to stay together.

There are also some wheels out there to cut various types of masonry, making the angle grinder useful for at least a little more than just metal.

Lost Ark Nacrasena Guardian Raid Guide: Tactics and Mechanics

Need some pointers for Lost Ark’s Nacrasena Guardian Raid? We have the mechanics and tips covered here.

If you have completed Lost Ark’s first Level 2 Guardian Raid Chromanium, it is now time to take on Guardian #6, Nacrasena. This guide will tell you everything you need to know about Lost Ark’s Nacrasena, featuring his abilities and tips on how to defeat him.

Guardian Raids can be attempted solo or with up to 3 other players, the battle is scaled for the number of players in the party. Everyone in your party will need to be item level 500+ to take on Nacrasena. If you need more players, you can use the find party or matchmaking features to group up.

Lost Ark Nacrasena Guardian Raid Mechanics and Tactics

Firstly, we’ve included a few general tips to help with the Lost Ark Nacrasena battle.

Take out the tail – When Nacrasena’s stinger begins to crackle with energy, you will know he is now empowered and has access to his full arsenal as explained below. At this point, you will want to knock Nacrasena to the ground and use destruction bombs and abilities to destroy his stinger. This will limit his kit and make the fight much easier.

Flares – Great for all of the Guardian Raids. Use one of these to instantly locate Nacrasena.

Whirlwind grenades – Great for breaking your party members free from Nacrasena’s Tail Sting ability.

Nacrasena is weak to earth damage. If you can tripod skills into earth damage then this helps greatly.

Common Nacresena mechanics

Burrow – The animation for this ability is similar to when another Guardian might change phase or move around the map. Don’t be fooled though! A dust cloud will appear above the hole Nacrasena burrowed into and will begin following a player. He will then leap from the ground and slam down onto the target. To dodge this one, you will want to run in a straight line whilst the cloud is following you, then quickly dodge to the side when he emerges.

Double Slash – Nacrasena slams his claws against the ground one after the other. Then he slashes twice in front of him. Quickly move to his side to avoid being hit.

Slash Turn – Nacrasena raises one claw up and inward, he then slashes outward and turns in that direction. You can tell which way he is going to turn by which claw he raises, get in front of or behind him to avoid this one.

Charge – Nacrasena flails his claws in the air before attacking three times and rolling in a straight line. Sometimes, he will glow blue whilst channelling this attack, hit him with a counter-attack ability during this time to stun him.

Claw Pound – This attack has a very similar starting animation to Double Slash. If Nacrasena did not slam his claws before raising them up for an attack it will be Claw Pound instead. This time Nacrasena will dash forward before pounding both claws into the ground, one after the other.

Cone Spray – Nacrasena rears back, sucking sand into his mouth. He then sprays the sand in a cone ahead of him, followed by another to the right in quick succession. Your mana will be drained if this attack hits. You should look to get behind him or move away when he begins to rear back, although it can be a tricky one to dodge.

Body Slam – Nacrasena raises both claws, crossing them above his head. He then leaps into the air and slams back down on the spot. This one is quite telegraphed so make sure to move away when you see it coming.

Tail Swing – Nacrasena slams his tail onto the ground behind him before swinging it in a wide arc towards his side. If you are behind him when this happens, try to move back as far as you can, the arc is wide but the range is not massive.

Water Blasts – Nacrasena will wave his stinger in the air before burying it in the sand. Small blue circles will begin to appear around him, indicating where the blasts of water will come from. These can be pretty tough to dodge and will knock you into the air if they hit. Try to stay mobile during this one.

Tail Zap (Charged) – This ability has a very fast animation and can be a tricky one to deal with. If you can catch the short animation, where he raises his claws and bring his front legs up, you know he’s about to fire a line of electric energy from his stinger. Keep moving around him in a circle to dodge this one, as he usually fires twice.

Tail Sting (Charged) – If you get electrocuted during the fight, Nacrasena will sting you. This does a lot of damage and can kill players with less HP. He will also hold the stung player above his head for a short time before slamming them into the ground and tossing them away. You can force Nacrasena to drop friends by hitting him with stagger abilities and whirlwind grenades.

Lightning Strikes (Charged) – Nacrasena hunkers down with his claws covering his face and his stinger raised in the air, a blue shield will appear around him. Large blue circles then begin to appear on the ground following a player. Lighting will then strike the indicated area damaging and electrocuting anyone hit. Avoid the player this attack is following, or keep moving if you are the one being attacked.
