Suggested January 2024 How To Cancel App Subscriptions On Iphone: All You Need To Know

App subscriptions have become a recurring financial debit that almost everybody has started to take into account at the end of the month. While most users have to go to the dedicated app or page to unsubscribe from apps and services, Apple users can manage them all directly from a mobile or desktop device. If you’re on your iPhone and looking to cancel a subscription, then here’s how you do it.

App Subscriptions on iOS: What to know first

Considering the plethora of subscription services offered by Apple, It can be hard to remember all the apps and services you’re paying for. These services often suck you in with free trial offers, and if you forget to cancel before your trial period ends, they’ll start deducting money from your registered payment method, until you put a stop to it.

Once you subscribe to a product or service, the subscription renews automatically until you cancel it. Thankfully, Apple makes it easy to check your subscription status or manage subscriptions to services like iTunes, Apple TV, or other 3rd party services like Netflix, Hotstar, Spotify, etc. right from your iPhone.

From the perspective of developers, it also makes sense to charge customers a repeated price at regular intervals for access to a product or service because it provides them with a reliable and consistent revenue stream. This, in turn, gives developers the confidence and budget to scale their operation, implement new features, and shift the focus from acquiring new customers to retaining them and finding new ones.

On the other hand, customers enjoy the subscription business model because it lets them get access to a vast amount of global content for a modest recurring price with an option to cancel at any time.

Yes, any subscribed service or app that is using your default Apple ID payment method can be managed via your iPhone. For other services managed directly via your bank or payment wallet, you will need to use the respective app or services. If you’re looking to cancel subscriptions for apps or services using your Apple ID, then use the guide below.

How to cancel subscriptions from an iPhone

You can cancel subscriptions from an iPhone either from your Apple ID in the Settings app or directly from the App Store which likely handled your purchase. Use either of the sections below to help you along with the process depending on your preference.

Method 1: Using the App Store

Here’s how you can cancel app subscriptions from the App Store.

Open the ‘App Store’ and tap the Profile icon in the top right corner of your screen.

Now tap ‘Subscriptions’.

Tap and select the subscription you wish to cancel.

Scroll down and tap on ‘Cancel Subscription’.

Confirm your choice and the subscription should now be canceled.

You can now repeat the steps above to cancel any other subscriptions that you might wish to discontinue.

Method 2: Using the Settings app

You can also cancel subscriptions directly from your Apple ID in the Settings app. Follow the guide below to get you started.

Open the Settings app and tap on your Apple ID at the top.

Now tap on ‘Subscriptions’.

Tap the subscription you want to cancel.

Scroll to the bottom if needed and tap on ‘Cancel Subscription’.

Confirm your choice and the selected subscription and its subsequent recurring payments should now be canceled.

How to cancel trial subscriptions

Canceling trial subscriptions is essentially similar to canceling any other subscription using your Apple ID payment methods for recurring payments. Simply follow the guide above and instead of ‘Cancel Subscription’, tap on ‘Cancel Free Trial’.

Like always, tap on ‘Confirm’ to confirm the cancellation.

Canceled free trials are usually terminated with immediate effect regardless of the remaining trial time. In addition to this, if you are trying to avoid the first payment after a trial ends, it is recommended that you cancel your subscription at least 24 hours before the final billing date.

Can you get a refund for the remaining period of subscription? How does it work and where?

Some regions around the world have policies that allow you to cancel your subscription at any point in time and avail the rest of the refund eligible to you. If you are in either of the following countries then the following applies to you.

Turkey

Israel

South Africa

To get your immediate refund, follow the link below to Apple Support in your region and follow the instructions to get you started. You will essentially have to get in touch with an Apple representative to cancel your subscription and get your immediate refund.

If you do not wish for an immediate refund, then you can continue with the cancellation guide above and cancel your subscription. For normal subscriptions, you will be able to use the service or app until the next billing date. For free trials, however, the cancellation will take place with immediate effect.

Yes, it’s quite easy to re-subscribe to a canceled subscription. You will need to choose a payment plan you wish to use for the future and pay the costs upfront, however, to get you started. Follow the guide below to help you along with the process.

Open the ‘Settings’ app and tap your Apple ID at the top.

You will now be redirected to confirm the payment depending on your region. Simply confirm the payment and you should see the change reflected shortly.

Can you avail of free trial subscriptions?

Yes, if an app is offering a free trial, then you can use the guide below to subscribe to it free of charge. However, if you decide to not use the service during the trial, it is recommended that you cancel it at least 24 hours before the billing date to avoid being charged. You can use the guide above to cancel Free trial subscriptions from an iPhone.

There is no specific way to do so, but the concerned app should have a ‘Free trial’ link within the app. Following this link can help you prompt the free subscription pop up and you can then simply tap on ‘Subscribe’ to subscribe to the free trial.

Let’s take Apple TV+ as an example, here’s how you can avail of its trial subscription on your device. Open the Apple TV app on your iPhone and tap on ‘Start Free Trial’. Tap on ‘Subscribe’ to confirm your choice.

How to manage your iCloud storage plan payments

If you’re subscribed to an iCloud storage plan then unfortunately the subscription won’t show up in the Settings app or the App Store. You can instead use the guide below to help you cancel the subscription.

Open the ‘Settings’ app and tap on your Apple ID at the top.

Now tap on ‘iCloud’.

Tap on ‘Manage Storage’ or ‘iCloud Storage’.

Select ‘Change Storage Plan’.

Tap on ‘Downgrade Options’.

Confirm your identity when prompted.

Now tap on ‘Free’ as your new iCloud storage plan.

Tap on ‘Done’ in the top right corner.

And that’s it! You will now have canceled your subscription, and subscribed to the free iCloud storage plan which is 5GB.

FAQs

While a single place to manage all your subscriptions is a pretty sweet deal, it still does come with its fair share of questions. Here are a few commonly asked ones to easily help you get up to speed.

When to cancel trials without being charged?

You should ideally cancel trials 24 hours before the billing date to avoid being charged. For example, if you have a 7 day Apple TV+ trial starting on the 1st of January, you should cancel it by the 6th of January to avoid being charged. Additionally, some services consider their timings or dates as the billing date which you should also keep in mind. All these details will be available when subscribing as well as canceling your trial.

How long can I use a canceled subscription?

If you had paid for the subscription, then you can use the app or service till its next billing date. However, if you’re subscribed to a free trial then your subscription will be terminated immediately. Some apps although, will allow you to use the trial until it ends but this is rare and app-specific.

Can’t find your subscription?

If you want to cancel a subscription but don’t see it in the list, try the following:

If the subscription that you want to cancel is an iCloud storage plan, then refer to the guide above for further help.

You might have purchased the subscription from another company. Check your bank statement and find the charge for the subscription. If your bank statement doesn’t say Apple or something similar, it means the subscription isn’t billed through Apple. You should then be able to cancel it through the company’s website.

If you still can not find your subscription and are sure that you are subscribed via your Apple ID then we recommend you get in touch with the support team using this link.

Can I cancel a family member’s subscription?

Unfortunately, you can not cancel an added family member’s subscription.

Can re-subscribe to free trials?

No, trials once canceled are expired. However certain services might allow you to re-join them once you get in touch with the support team.

Can I use other devices to cancel my subscription?

Yes, you can cancel your subscriptions from the following devices as well as long as you are subscribed via the same Apple ID.

PC

Mac

Apple Watch

Apple TV

How To Know When You Need To Replace Your Iphone

Perhaps you saw the latest and greatest additions to the iOS lineup at WWDC, and began to wonder if it’s time for an upgrade. Maybe your iPhone has been around the block a few times, taken it’s fair share of nose dives, and just has that one funny thing wrong with it.

There are more than a few signs that you need to replace your iPhone, but… how do you know them when you see them? Stick around as we explore the ins and outs of when and how to replace your iPhone.

Note: Looking for a place to sell your old iPhone for the best price? Give our curated list a look.

1. Damage

For some users, the only reason to upgrade is irreparable damage.

Accidents like shocks or drops can permanently damage your iPhone. If you find yourself in a predicament such as this, you may need to upgrade. Whether your iPhone took a skydive from a considerable height or a deep dive in the bathtub, damage can’t be overlooked as a potential catalyst.

Note: Remember, Apple bolstered its waterproof standards starting with the iPhone X onwards. This means that any iPhone released before 2023 doesn’t do so well in aquatic scenery.

On the other hand, maybe you can live with a cracked screen or shoddy speaker for a while. Some users are perfectly happy developing workarounds that extend their device’s lifetime rather than jumping to a replacement.

Or, if you’re keen to get under the hood yourself, look into Apple Self Service Repair.

2. No iOS upgrade

When Apple announced iOS 13, iPhone 6 owners were disappointed to find that software support for the iPhone 6 and earlier models would be dropped.

In this and similar situations, many users chose to upgrade their iPhones. Most popular apps don’t roll out updates for older versions of iOS. Users would be unable to access apps like Google, Twitter, or nearly any other popular iPhone or iPad apps.

This is one of the biggest reasons that users replace their iPhone, and a good sign to know that you should as well.

3. Irreparable malware

Although Apple provides robust security to your iOS devices, some attacks are able to bypass that security and attack the heart of your device. Such assaults can even prevent your access to apps and iMessage.

When the cost of repairing is higher than a new device, you may think of getting a fresh iPhone.

4. Irresistible offers

Some offers are simply too good to turn down. Every year, Apple releases its new iPhones in September; before this month, e-commerce portals run offers and discounts for customers to upgrade to the latest iPhones.

Mobile providers are also always coming up with profitable upgrade plans. AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, and Verizon are leading carriers in the United States that offer deals often.

5. New features

Enticing new functions and features may be cause enough for a replacement. Are you looking to step up your Instagram game with the best camera on the market, or stream shows on the cleanest-looking iPhone screen possible?

There’s an argument to be made that you ought to upgrade in scenarios such as these; especially if you can snag a deal.

That’s all, folks!

Signing off…

Before you replace your old iPhone, make sure you do a few things like making a backup, exporting contacts, deleting photos and videos, removing apps, etc.

At&T 5G: All You Need To Know

AT&T has been at the forefront of 5G since late 2023. The telco turned on 5G network in twelve U.S. cities last December and more recently, seven more cities got the nod, making it a total of nineteen cities with access to AT&T 5G services as of April 30.

With this coverage, AT&T boasts of the widest 5G reach among the four major U.S. carriers to date. The company has even run multiple speed tests with results of up to 2Gbps being reported, however, there is still no consumer-ready 5G phone to verify this claim. For now, AT&T is using NETGEAR’s Nighthawk mobile hotspot to carry out the tests.

While it’s clear that AT&T’s strategy is to get going with 5G as soon as possible, the question here is what is the company actually doing to realize this?

In this post, we talk about the current state of AT&T’s 5G network, 5G phones, pricing and when the speedy mobile network arrives.

AT&T 5GE

The 5GE icon started showing up in late 2023

But 5GE is not anywhere close to true 5G

The 5GE icon is a placeholder for true 5G

First, let’s take on the elephant in the room – 5GE.

When the talk about 5G was beginning to pick up late last year, AT&T started replacing the LTE icon on smartphones with a 5GE icon in an exercise that took into account over 400 markets across the country.

Dubbed 5G Evolution, this is the same network that is known as LTE Advanced elsewhere, but for some reason, AT&T thought it’s cool to associate it with 5G. According to the carrier, though, this was only meant to prepare customers for the arrival of true 5G.

So, if you see your AT&T phone with a 5GE icon, don’t be confused to think that you have access to 5G network. In fact, unless you have a Samsung Galaxy S10 5G or LG V50 ThinQ (which you obviously don’t), your current phone doesn’t support 5G connectivity.

AT&T 5G cities

AT&T 5G started rolling out in late 2023

Up to 19 cities are already covered

Chicago and Minneapolis to get 5G later in the year

As already pointed out, AT&T started rolling out 5G in late 2023 and so far, the network is available in 19 U.S. cities.

Here is the full list so far:

California – Los Angeles, San Diego, San Francisco, San Jose

Florida – Jacksonville, Orlando

Georgia – Atlanta

Indiana – Indianapolis

Kentucky – Louisville

Louisiana – New Orleans

North Carolina – Charlotte, Raleigh

Oklahoma – Oklahoma City

Tennessee – Nashville

Texas – Austin, Dallas, Houston, San Antonio, Waco

AT&T is expected to continue rolling out 5G network in more cities as the year progresses, with Chicago and Minneapolis among the cities in question.

AT&T 5G speeds

AT&T is already testing 5G speeds

Speeds of up to 2Gbps recorded in Atlanta

10 seconds is enough to download a 2-hour HD movie

AT&T has been quite busy in the build-up to the official launch of 5G in the country. The carrier has run a couple or so speed tests with some interesting results.

In the first tests, AT&T reported having reached speeds of between 200Mbps and 300Mbps and in early April 2023, it shot to 1Gbps. Not long after, things got even faster, with speeds of up to 2Gbps being recorded in Atlanta using NETGEAR Nighthawk mobile hotspot. Looking at the maximum downlink speed the Huawei Mate X (image above) can achieve, it’s clear there’s still room for improvement.

AT&T says that with such a speedy network, you only need 10 seconds to download a 2-hour HD movie. But of course, we all know it’s hard for a device/network to maintain such speeds.

Unlike T-Mobile whose 5G strategy involves using a combination of mmWave, mid-band and low-band spectrums to deliver true 5G to all, AT&T is relying on mmWave to deliver 5G to its customers. While its true mmWave promises better speeds and more capacity, coverage is limited to a small area like urban centers, a fully packed stadium or concert.

Also, the transmission of mmWave signals can easily be affected by things like walls, which means you are likely to lose 5G signal on your phone when you enter a building. On the brighter side, AT&T is said to be working on a sub-6GHz spectrum that will cover the wider America by 2023.

AT&T 5G phones

AT&T currently has no 5G phone

But early adopters can get the NETGEAR Nighthawk mobile hotspot

Samsung Galaxy S10 5G will be the first phone

LG V50 ThinQ, Galaxy Note 10 also expected

But where are these 5G phones and devices? You may ask.

One of the smartphones that have been confirmed to support 5G is the Samsung Galaxy S10 5G. However, it’s only available through Verizon Wireless, at least for the time being (official shipping begins on May 16). AT&T is expected to bring the S10 5G to its stores at some point, but it’s not known when. From the look of things, though, it should happen probably before the end of Q2 2023.

Another 5G phone is the LG V50 ThinQ. This one will begin selling in the U.S. in May 2023 through Sprint before arriving on AT&T and other carriers later on. When exactly AT&T will begin carrying it is also unknown at the moment.

We also know that Samsung Galaxy Note 10 will support 5G. Granted, this device should come to AT&T in the second half of the year, which is when we expect to see more 5G devices arriving on the market.

AT&T 5G data plans

AT&T 5G data currently goes for $70/mo. for 15GB

Data plans to be revised within 2-3 years

Tiered pricing expected

The excitement around 5G is mainly about the new speeds it promises. I mean, who wouldn’t be excited by the prospects of downloading a 2-hour HD movie in just 10 seconds?

While it’s good and all to have such unimaginable internet speeds, AT&T customers will have to incur a higher cost than what they pay for the current 4G LTE data. Apparently, the carrier plans to introduce tiered 5G data plans, meaning those who wish to get maximum 5G speeds will have to pay extra.

On the brighter side, AT&T says this pricing format will not take effect immediately, but probably after two to three years.

Those who have already bought the NETGEAR Nighthawk mobile hotspot are paying $70 per month for 15GB of 5G data. Compared to the base plan of $70 per month for unlimited LTE data, we can already guess that AT&T 5G data plans will be quite pricey.

Conclusion

AT&T didn’t paint a good picture of itself with the push for 5GE, but the carrier will be excited that at least this got the AT&T 5G topic going. Since then, Sprint has even sued it, something that AT&T must have relished since it helped put them in the 5G headlines. With more efforts being deployed, it won’t be long before the customers begin enjoying 5G network on AT&T.

Also, the use of mmWave means AT&T 5G network will initially be reserved for those in urban centers, with the rest having to wait until 2023 or later.

Huawei P Smart 2023: All You Need To Know

Huawei is the second leading Android smartphone vendor in the world and it’s mainly because of the sheer number of devices it churns out every year.

The P series is one of the company’s popular family of smartphones and late last year, it got a new line of devices dubbed Smart, with the first member christened Huawei P Smart. Huawei then followed it up with the launch of the P Smart+ in August 2023, a device that goes by the name Nova 3i in some markets like India and Australia.

Related:

With a year down the line since the debut of the P Smart series, tradition dictates that it’s time the OG P Smart gets a successor, the Huawei P Smart 2023. Well, technically, the phone is among us, only waiting for Huawei to announce official pricing and availability details.

So, let’s see what we have in the Huawei P Smart 2023, beginning with specs.

Huawei P Smart 2023 specs

6.21-inch 19.5:9 FHD+ LCD display

Kirin 710 processor

3GB RAM

64GB expandable storage, up to 512GB

Dual 13MP + 2MP main camera

8MP front camera

3400mAh battery

Android 9 Pie with EMUI 9.0

Extras: Bluetooth 4.2, microUSB port, 3.5mm audio jack, NFC, FM radio, Rear-mounted FPS, 5V/2A 10W charging, etc.

Looking at the design, specs, and features of the Huawei P Smart 2023, it is more of the same device as the Honor 10 Lite, but with a few tweaks here and there. In fact, the only notable difference is the design of the rear cameras, where the two lenses are in one frame on the P Smart 2023 and each is on its own with respect to the Honor 10 Lite.

The Huawei P Smart 2023 is a significant upgrade over its predecessor in terms of both specs and features. The phone packs a much bigger 6.21-inch panel with a notch, a departure from the outgoing notch-less panel. The processor under the hood is also getting a bump to the latest midrange chipset from the company, the Kirin 710.

The Honor 10 Lite has multiple memory options, but the Huawei P Smart 2023 only gets a 3/64GB combo, although we wouldn’t be surprised if more variants show up at launch. Compared to the 2023 edition, the same dual-lens package of 13MP + 2MP has been retained on the back of the 2023 edition and so is the 8MP selfie shooter, but this time you get PDAF on the main shooter.

The outgoing Huawei P Smart had a 3000mAh battery unit, which has been upgraded to 3400mAh on the P Smart 2023 edition. To reduce the time it takes to fill up the bigger battery, you get support for 5V/2A 10W charging technology that delivers the maximum amount any non-fast charging charger can manage.

In terms of software, the Huawei P Smart 2023 runs Android 9 Pie with EMUI 9.0 on top out of the box. The phone also comes with extras such as Bluetooth 4.2, microUSB port for data transfer and charging, 3.5mm audio jack, NFC, FM radio, a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner and possibly face unlock for facial authentication purposes, among others.

Huawei P Smart 2023 pricing and availability

A French retailer, Boulanger, recently listed the Huawei P Smart 2023 for sale, but later took down the page. Of course, plenty of publications had already captured this info before the page went offline and if the details in the post are anything to go by, we can say we do have the price info of the phone.

Apparently, the Huawei P Smart 2023 will retail at €250 in Europe, with availability expected beginning January 2nd. The phone will be sold in Black and Aurora Blue color options. Still, keep in mind that the page has been taken down, which could mean anything, including that the info provided wasn’t accurate.
