Suggested March 2024 How To Change The Slide Size In Powerpoint For Better Presentations

Powerpoint presentations are supposed to be engaging. But that’s another story if the audience can’t see what’s in front of them. So, in this article, we’ll discuss how to change the default slide size in Powerpoint.

This will come in handy so you can maximize your slides to the size of the projector or monitor you’ll be using and deliver a better presentation.

Table of Contents

Choose One Slide Size First

PowerPoint allows you to change the slide size anytime you like, but it’s a good idea to pick the right size before you start creating your presentation.

If you decide to change the size later, PowerPoint will do its best to give you options on how to shift items around, but it will more than likely result in having to totally redesign your slides.

This is especially true if you move from a widescreen format slide to a smaller 4:3 standard sized slide.

Change Slide Size in PowerPoint

Once you know what size will be ideal for your output device, you can adjust the slide size in PowerPoint.

First, go ahead and open PowerPoint and select a slide.

This guide works will work for most modern versions of PowerPoint that have the ribbon interface, including the version in Office 365.

Next, go to the Design tab. It’s where you can find the options that let you tweak your presentation’s design.

There, head over to the far right end — to where you can find the Customize section. Next, choose Slide Size.

Let’s walk through each of the choices. This way, you will have a better understanding of your options. This will also help you adjust your slide’s size as needed – a size that works best for your projector or TV.

If you go with the Standard size, you’ll be going with a 4:3 aspect ratio. This is a safe choice because it works for familiar devices such as older screens with low resolutions.

A Standard slide size is a suggested choice for old school presenters. This means those who will be working with old projectors and SlideShare or other old online presentation platforms.

If you choose Widescreen, you’ll be going with an aspect ratio of 16:9. This is the ideal choice for you if you’re dealing with newer devices and online presentation platforms.

Got a Microsoft Surface device or HD projector? Going with a Widescreen option is the better way to go. The same is true if you’ll be presenting on a HDTV or 4K TV/monitor.

If Standard and Widescreen slide sizes are not for you, you can also go with the Custom Slide Size…

If you select this option, a pop-up window will appear.

Here, you can select from plenty of choices regarding the slide size you want. If you’re about to deliver your Powerpoint presentation on an unfamiliar projector, it’s good to go with this option.

It’s flexible. It can also accommodate your preferred slide dimensions.

Plus this way, you can select the Orientation for your slides and notes. This lets you have control over the Width and Height of your slides, too.

You can also try expanding the Slides sized for menu option. Doing so reveals preset sizes that go beyond the Standard and Widescreen size options.

As you can see, this option allows you to adjust your slide to fit the size of a Letter Paper, 35mm slide, a banner, 16:10 aspect ratio and more.

Fix Slow Powerpoint And Speedup Your Presentations – Webnots

Often, Microsoft PowerPoint performs poorly and getting rid of those animations have little effect. If you do presentations often, speeding up PowerPoint may send your overall productivity through the roof. It may take a lot of effects for PowerPoint presentation to pleasingly transition between slides.

Speedup Slow PowerPoint Presentations

Try the below fixes to speedup your presentations:

Cleanup and simplify presentations

Remove unnecessary add-ins

Stop AutoRecover

Disable auto spelling check

Remove startup programs

Change screen resolution

Check hardware graphics acceleration

Clear temporary files

Check compatibility

Method #1: Simplify Presentations

Some people get too ambitious with the design of the presentation. Complex presentation can be very slow to load, even if you have a good hardware. Follow these steps:

Reduce the size of the images. Just dragging to resize the image isn’t enough, because the original image still has high resolution and large image size. It is better to remove images in the presentation and optimize them. After these images have optimum resolution and file size, you can re-upload them in the presentation slides. Also you can compress pictures, remove the cropped part of images and choose the optimized size when saving your presentations.

Remove built-in PowerPoint animation, such as scaling, rotating and fading, because they can slow down the overall performance.

Remove transparent objects and replace them with objects that have solid color fills.

Method #2: Remove Unnecessary Add-ins

If lot of add-ins are loaded, it is possible that PowerPoint will perform poorly. Each add-in will contribute in slowing down PowerPoint start-ups. Follow these steps:

Similar to COM Add-ins, check for other add-in types and remove all. Now check the PowerPoint presentation is opening faster. If yes, then the add-ins are slowing down your PowerPoint. You can enable the add-ins one by one and check the performance.

Method #3: Stop AutoRecover

AutoRecover helps to save your presentations automatically and help to retrieve it when the application is terminated unexpectedly. This is a very useful function to save your content periodically. But setting low AutoRecover time will lead multiple times savings and slow down your activities. So to have good performance and also with AutoRecover function, you can set the recovery time to more than 15 minutes.

Open Microsoft PowerPoint.

Under the ‘Save’ tab, find and uncheck “Save AutoRecover info every xx minutes”

Method #4: Disable Spellchecking

Go to ‘Proofing’ section and scroll down to the section ‘When correcting spelling in PowerPoint’.

Restart PowerPoint and verify that the problem has been resolved.

Method #5: Stop Loading Startup Programs

If you have the habit of opening PowerPoint immediately after starting Windows then the startup apps could affect the opening of PowerPoint. If your computer has plenty of startup items, it is possible that one of them causes problems. Follow these steps:

Close all programs. Press ‘Win + R’ keys to open Run window. Type in ‘msconfig’ and open Windows Configuration Utility.

Restart the computer and re-open Microsoft PowerPoint. Check whether the problem has been resolved.

If PowerPoint performs much better, then the problem is verified. The next step is to identify the program that causes the problem.

Disable a startup item that may cause the issue. If problem still persists, re-enable the item and disable another.

Related: Fix Slow Outlook and speedup emails.

Method #6: Check Screen Resolution

On computers with weaker hardware configurations, high screen resolutions may cause slowdowns in performance. Especially when you have dual monitor then the screen resolution will affect the display as well the speed of your presentation. So it is necessary to have the recommended resolution for your computer. Follow these steps:

Choose ‘Display setting’. Under ‘Display’ section check the available resolutions.

Choose the recommended resolution for your computer.

Confirm the selection and check whether the performance level improves.

Some resolutions may cause distortions in the layout of the presentation, so you may need to choose the most appropriate screen resolution.

Method #7: Enable / Disable Hardware Graphics Acceleration

If you have a moderately powerful computer and PowerPoint still performs poorly, then it is possible that you are not using the full capacity of the hardware. Graphics accelerator is a dedicated hardware that boosts performance when rendering 3D objects and images. The processor can do other tasks, which improves the overall computing process as well. Follow these steps:

Open Microsoft PowerPoint.

Under ‘Display’ section, look for ‘Disable hardware graphics acceleration’ and make sure it’s not checked.

Also disable ‘Disable Slide Show hardware graphics acceleration’ option.

If you have latest computer with powerful processor, you should enable these options to get good performance.

Method #8: Clear Temporary Files

Deleting files associated with PowerPoint presentations in temporary directory could help to speed up the start-up process significantly. Follow these steps

Type in ‘Disk Cleanup’ in the Windows search box.

Open PowerPoint and check whether the problem has been resolved.

Method #9: Do Compatibility Check

This will help especially when you are dealing with presentations made in earlier versions.

Conclusion

Most of the Microsoft applications works integrated with Windows operating system. This makes the troubleshooting process more complex as many components of your operating system can also affect the speed of PowerPoint presentations. We hope one of the above mentioned solutions help you to speedup the presentations.

Restore The Old Ios 6 Slide To Unlock Sound In Ios7

The new iOS 7 lock screen is really a lot quieter than it used to be in previous iterations of iOS. Apple removed the unlock sounds that used to play when you’d unlock your device, but for some unknown reason, decided to keep the lock sound that plays when you lock your iOS device.

UnlockSound7 is a jailbreak tweak created by developer merdok. The tweak is available for free in the BigBoss repository. There are no configurable settings, so if you no longer require or don’t like the sound, you can simply uninstall the package via Cydia.

You can also place custom unlock sounds in “/var/mobile/unlock.caf” and customize the unlock sound to your liking. Doing so will let you hear something that you like or prefer while unlocking your iOS device.

To install the tweak, tap on the Cydia icon on your device’s home screen and launch the Cydia app store. Jump to search section and search for “UnlockSound7”. Once found, tap to install it.

With this tweak, there will be certain pre-iOS 7 elements you may enjoy with your iOS device. I, however, found this particular sound to be a little outdated. It didn’t match the clarity, the beauty and simplicity of iOS 7. With a custom sound, you may just have the perfect unlock sound for your iOS device.

How To Change The Document Background Color In Pages

When you’re creating a flyer, poster, or brochure in Apple Pages, adding a splash of color to the background is a great way to spruce it up.

With Pages on iOS and Mac, you can add a color or gradient as the background for your document, and here’s how.

Creating your document in Pages on Mac

While Apple offers the ability to change the background of a document in Pages, it’s not just as easy as creating a new document and popping in a color or gradient. You can currently only change the background of a Page Layout or Master Page document.

Page Layout documents are what you use to create things like newsletters and posters. You can add objects like text boxes and images and then arrange them as you like.

Master Page documents are templated page designs that are used by Page Layout documents.

So, if you start your project with one of the templates in Pages, you’re one step ahead and can jump down to the steps for changing the background.

But if you are starting with a basic blank page, you’ll have to convert it to a Page Layout document, and as of now, you can only do that on Mac.

2) Uncheck the box for Document Body.

Changing the background color in Pages on Mac

When you’re ready to change the background to a color or gradient for your Pages document, just follow these steps:

3) Depending on which one you choose, you’ll see different options where you can pick colors or adjust gradient settings. When you make your selections, you’ll see the document change immediately.

If you have multiple pages in your document and want each one colored differently, you can do that by following the same steps as you create each page.

Creating your document in Pages on iPhone or iPad

Since you currently cannot convert a document to Page Layout on iPhone or iPad, you’ll either need to use a synced document you created on your Mac or use one of the templates. If you started a document on your Mac, you should see it on the main screen of Pages, where you can just open it.

If you want to start with a template instead, do the following.

1) Tap the plus sign on the top right to create a new document and tap Choose a Template.

2) Browse through the template options like those for flyers, posters, and newsletters.

3) Tap the one you want and if necessary, remove any of the objects that you will not need for your project. (Just tap the object and select Delete.)

Changing the background color in Pages on iOS

When you’re ready to change the background to a color or gradient for your document on iPhone or iPad, just follow these steps:

1) Tap a blank spot on the document and then tap the Format button on the top right.

2) In the pop-up, tap Background.

3) Choose from Preset, Color, or Gradient. You can also pick an image for your background if you like.

4) Tap to make your selections based on the type of background you choose. Like on Mac, you’ll see your changes immediately.

5) When you finish, tap X to close the format window.

Note: You may not see the background format option in all templates on iPhone and iPad.

Colored backgrounds for documents are most common for the types of examples above, like posters and flyers. But of course, you can add a background to any type of document. Are you going to add some color to your next Pages project?

How To Change Font In Simplenote

Thanks to our tech addiction, developers have had their hands full since the very beginning. They have been doing their best to digitize our everyday analog tasks; to give us a familiar feeling on our favorite devices.

Coming to analog tasks most of us cannot do without, notetaking has to be right up there — helping us keep tabs on numerous tasks, reminding us to get them done in order.

Google, Microsoft, and Apple have their dedicated notetaking applications, of course, but they might not be the best fit for all. Simplenote, on the other hand, comes closest to providing a neutral notetaking application for all parties. Today, we will be taking a look at the free-to-use application, and tell you how you could change the font in it.

Can you change the font in Simplenote?

The Simplenote application for computers and mobile devices supports the default system font. So, if you are looking to change the Simplenote font specifically, you are sadly out of luck. At the time of writing, Simplenote hasn’t opened the app for alternative font styles. You only get the default and a bunch of formatting options.

How to format your text in Simplenote

Yes, you cannot change the default font in Simplenote. However, that doesn’t mean you cannot change the appearance of the font if you feel like it. Since Simplenote supports markdown mode, it is rather easy to format fonts, both on your computer and mobile. It is to be noted that Markdown mode must be enabled before any of the formattings can take place. Additionally, you will need to turn on the ‘Preview’ to see the changes you are making in real-time.

Turn on Markdown mode and Preview

To turn on markdown mode on your computer, launch the Simplenote application, hit the ellipsis button at the top-right corner, and turn on the ‘Markdown’ option.

On mobile, launch the Simplenote app, open a note, and tap on the vertical ellipsis button at the top-right corner.

Now, check the ‘Markdown’ option.

Once Markdown is turned on, you’ll need to turn on the preview to make sure all the changes you are making start to appear in real-time. On your computer, hit the eye button at the top to turn on the preview.

On your mobile, the mechanism is a little different, as the ‘Preview’ tab only shows up after you turn on ‘Markdown.’ After doing so, move over to the ‘Preview’ tab to watch your formatting unfold in real-time.

Use headers

Nothing defines individual sections better than headers. And with Markdown enabled, you only need to insert “#”s to get up and running.

Add a single hashtag to use heading 1. Use two hashtags for heading 2 and so on. Both mobile and computer react to the headers the same way. Here’s how it looks:

Use blockquote

See the magic with the preview on.

Use bold font

You can also make your fonts bolder for further emphasis. Encapsulate the text in double asterisks to enable the bold effect.

Use italics

Since we have already talked about bold, you must have expected italics to be just around the corner. To format text in italics, you have to bookend it with a single asterisk.

Hit preview to see it in all its glory.

Use monospace font

Monospace fonts are super convenient, especially when you’re trying to highlight a code snippet or technical jargon inside a block of text. To use monospace, simply use ” ` ” as prefix and suffix of the text you’re trying to format.

Turn on the preview to see it live.

How to change the font size in Simplenote

If the default text size in Simplenote is too large or too small for you, you could, very easily, get to the size you want. Surprisingly, the mechanism is glaringly different on a computer and a mobile device.

Computer

Mobile

Fire up the Simpleton app on your smartphone. Tap on the hamburger menu button at the top-right corner of the screen.

Next, go to ‘Settings.’

Under the ‘Editor’ banner, you will find the ‘Font size’ option.

The default would be ‘Normal.’ Pick from ‘Extra small,’ ‘Small,’ ‘Large,’ and ‘Extra large.’

The font size on Simplenote would be changed.
