Learn how to paint a blended ombre dresser.

When you paint a lot of furniture, sometimes, you just want a FUN project. This blended ombre dresser was that project for me. I have no idea if it will sell or not, but man, was it fun to paint!

Ombre Furniture FAQs What is an ombre finish?

An ombre finish starts with one color and blends into several other colors. At least 2 colors are needed, but I used 5 colors on this dresser.

What is the difference between ombre and gradient?

Ombre uses variations of one color blending into another, while gradients blend different colors together. Think of in art class where you blended yellow and blue to make a green color in the middle.

Can you create an ombre finish on furniture using latex or mineral paint instead?

Yes! I created my daughter’s galaxy mural using a similar blending technique. I’ve also seen it created with mineral paints, such as Fusion.

Chalk paint is a bit easier to blend than latex paint though. The matte finish helps.

How do you blend paint on wood?

Blending paint on wood is created by painting on 2 different colors, spraying water, and using a dry brush to help the colors mix. A side-to-side motion creates a smoother transition from color to color.

Prep Work for Painting a Dresser

This dresser had lovely lines, but I knew that the finish would be difficult to work with.

After thoroughly cleaning this dresser, I lightly sanded it, then applied several thin coats of shellac on it.

See how the dresser is red? All of those tannins will bleed through the paint and turn any light colors pink. Sealing them with shellac is a must.

Pay special attention to any areas where pieces are attached, such as the trim on top and where the dresser top meets the dresser’s body.

These are normally the problem areas and may need several coats to seal in the tannins.

Here are some more tips for painting dark furniture white!

Prime. I primed the top half of the dresser because I knew that the light colors at the top would color better over a white base of primer.

It’s also a good way to see where you need to add extra shellac. Any pink spots will keep bleeding through. Add more shellac!

Painting the Blended Ombre Effect A Few Extra Tips to Create an Ombre Dresser

If you hate the results, add more paint and blend some more. Sometimes, it got way too drippy. Let it dry and add more paint.

Change the water in your bucket often to keep from muddying your dresser colors.

Watch for drips unless that’s the look you’re going for. Drips can look really cool.

Blending with your brush strokes going up and down creates a very different look than side to side. It’s fun to experiment.

When I try this technique again, I’m going to only use 3 colors to make it go faster. My daughter has requested one in “Sunset” colors.

Each of these colors on their own look very different than when they’re combined. Bliss and Reverie are pretty bold colors and Jitterbug is a gorgeous blue-green on its own. It’s interesting to see them combined like this and how it changes how they appear.

This technique does not create a texture that you can feel. The finish is perfectly smooth.

If you like this project, you might also like my ombre wall! I used the same technique on a wall to recreate expensive wallpaper at a fraction of the cost.

How To Create Duotone Colors In Photoshop (Step By Step)

Creating a duotone image in Photoshop is an impressive way to make your photo pop. This design technique converts your image to only two colors of your choice. The result is a bold, striking picture highlighting the photo’s contrast.

There are two main methods to achieve the duotone effect when using Photoshop, and your method of choice should depend on your strengths. If you are comfortable using selections and masking techniques, choose option one. If you are more confident using gradients, then the second option is best for you.

When creating the duotone effect, a top tip is to use a high-contrast photo with a relatively simple background, as these images will produce the best result.

How To Create Duotone Colors In Photoshop

When adding a duotone effect to an image, you essentially add one color to the highlights and a second color to the shadows. Once you have selected your image and opened it in Photoshop, think about the colors you want to add and get started.

Step 1: Select The Highlights In The Image Using Channels

The first step is to isolate the highlights in the photo to add one color to those areas only. Using channels is a quick and super easy way to select the highlights (or shadows) in an image.

Open the Channels panel, which should be located in a panel tab next to the Layers panel.

When using the RGB color mode, you will see four color channels: one with all the colors, then separate ones, each showing one color channel, Red, Green, and Blue. You must go through the individual color channels and decide which looks the best.

Your final duotone image will look like the color channel you select, with your two colors added to the shadows and highlights. So choose a channel that matches how you want the final result to look, which will be different for every image.

I like the Blue channel because it offers the most contrast for my picture, and I want a bold final result.

Once you’ve made the selection, you will see that the marching ants select only the highlights on the canvas.

Step 2: Add A Solid Fill Color To The Highlights

Now, you can use any method in the Color Picker to add your chosen color. You can add a HEX code, the RGB or CMYK values, or move the cursor around the color panel to find a color that works best. Since you are working with the highlights, you should choose a light color unless you want an inverted effect.

Move the color around to see a few different results.

Once you’ve selected your color, press OK to confirm your choice and close the Color Picker.

You have now added the color of your highlights to the photo.

Step 3: Add A Solid Fill Color To The Shadows

Adding a solid color to the shadows in the image is even easier since you have already isolated the highlights. Now you just need to add a color that only covers the shadows in the picture. To do this, select the background or image layer in the Layers panel.

The new fill layer will appear above the background layer but below the highlights layer. This ensures that the fill color only affects the shadows since the layer mask above has isolated the highlights.

You can now choose a color for the shadows in the Color Picker. Remember, a darker color works best since you are adding to the shadows.

You have now successfully created a duotone effect on your photo.

Step 4: Adjust The Colors As Needed

Since the process is entirely non-destructive, and your background layer is still intact, you can add any other edits you need and change the colors at any time.

You can do this as many times as you need to find the perfect color combination for your image.

Using Gradient Maps To Create The Duotone Effect

The second method to create a duotone effect on a photo is using a Gradient Map adjustment layer. This method is even simpler than the previous method and offers a similar amount of control over the final result.

Step 1: Add A Gradient Map Adjustment Layer

Once your image is open in Photoshop, add a Gradient Map adjustment layer by opening the Adjustments panel and selecting the Gradient Map icon, which is the last icon in the list.

Once the Gradient Map is added to the image, the colors on the canvas become the two gradient colors. The colors and gradients added depend on the previous settings used when adding gradients to your projects. You can see the gradient settings in the Properties panel.

In my case, a black-to-white gradient was added to the image. This shows how the duotone will look, and all that’s left is for me to change the colors. If you don’t have a black-to-white gradient yet, that’s fine. You can change it in the next step.

Step 2: Open The Gradient Editor

The Gradient Editor window opens, allowing you to change all the gradient settings.

First, if your gradient doesn’t have two colors, you can change this to make selecting the two new colors easier. To change the gradient type, open the Basics tab in the gradient presets section and select the black-to-white gradient.

Now, you can move on to change the shadows and highlights colors.

Step 3: Select A Color For The Shadows

To select a color for the shadows, you need to change the black color in the gradient, or if you don’t have a black-to-white gradient, you will change whatever color is on the left of the gradient bar.

Your gradient has the new color for the shadows added to the bar.

Step 4: Select A Color For The Highlights

You can now add the highlights color by repeating the above step using the color stop on the far right of the gradient bar.

You have successfully created a duotone color effect using a Gradient map on your image.

This process is also non-destructive, as the gradient map is automatically added to a separate layer in the Layers panel.

You can change the colors anytime by selecting the Gradient map layer and opening the Gradient Editor in the Properties panel. Play around with the colors until you find the right combination for your photo.

With each of these methods, you can create the duotone effect in a way that suits your workflow. I personally prefer the simplicity of the Gradient Maps, but if you aren’t comfortable working with gradients, the first option using channels, will be right up your alley!

Definition Bitbucket Repository

Web development, programming languages, Software testing & others

What is a bitbucket repository?

In the Bitbucket repository, mainly we have three different concepts as follows.

Bitbucket Server: It is facilitated on-premise in your current circumstance. Bitbucket Server doesn’t accompany underlying testing and sending instruments; however, it has solid reconciliations with Bamboo, our strong nonstop incorporation, and a constant conveyance device that lets you mechanize your construct processes. Likewise, more applications are accessible than Cloud, and the permit is never-ending.

Bitbucket repository provides the different features as follows.

Access control to confine admittance to your source code.

Work process control to authorize a venture or group work process.

Pull demands with in-line remarking for cooperation on code audit.

Jira coordination for full improvement detectability.

Full Rest API to fabricate highlights custom to your work process if they are not currently accessible from our Marketplace.

Create a bitbucket repository

Now let’s see how we can create a repository as follows.

At first, the repository we make in Bitbucket will be vacant with practically no code. However, that is OK since we will begin adding a few records to it soon. In the wake of making a store, you’ll duplicate a rendition to your nearby framework; that way, you can refresh it from one repo, then, at that point, move those progressions to the next.

To create a Bitbucket repository, we need to follow the same steps.

2. Inside the Repository tab, we have created a new repository.

The following snapshot shows how we can create the repository in Bitbucket.

Configuring Bitbucket repository

After successfully creating the repository, we need to configure some settings such as access and version control. Now let’s see the different parameters of configuration as follows.

Privacy of Repository:

It includes the public and private, meaning the public is visible to everyone, and the private is only those with permission. We can change the privacy setting through the repository setting option, as shown in the following snapshot.

Grant access to user and group:

When you make a repository, you indicate whether it’s private or public. If your vault is public, anybody can get to it. On the off chance that your vault is private, you can concede admittance to people and gatherings of clients. For more details, as shown in the following snapshot follows.

Access Key:

By using access, we can achieve the authentication for accessing the repository, or we can say that we can make the confirmation of administration when we pull or clone the repository. For instance, you might need to utilize an entrance key to verify with Bitbucket when a form server looks at and tests your code. For details as shown in the following snapshot as follows.

As well as we have other configuration parameters such as a map of an existing name, web services, ownership of repository, size of the repository, git repo and delete a repository, etc.

Adding the Repository

Let’s see how we can add a repository to Linux as follows.

First, we need to install all packages using the following command.

sudo apt install software-properties

Now we can add the repository by using the following command as follows.

sudo add-apt-repository

Explanation

By using the above command, we can add a repository, here repository for the format of the file.

So in this way, we can easily add the repository manually as well we can add the repository through a third-party application.

Conclusion

We hope from this article you learn more about the Bitbucket repository. From the above article, we have taken in the essential idea of the Bitbucket repository, and we also see the representation and example of the Bitbucket repository. Take A Beach Trip: Head To Ice (Innovation, Culture, Extreme)

Summer is arguably the best time of the year, and as we near the end of the season, it’s important that you book a trip to the beach (if you haven’t already done so or gone). Why’s that? Well, if you’re an entrepreneur, hitting the beach may actually help you to become more successful in the long-run. Living an entrepreneur life can often become a stressful life, and taking a beach trip can help reduce some of that stress and refuel your energy and creativity. This conference update is sponsored by the Peninsula Technology Incubator.

Consider going down to Virginia Beach, VA for ICE (Innovation, Culture, Extreme), a week-long celebration of innovation, culture, and extreme sports. Basically a kind of SXSW by the sea, ICE will feature several events and resources for entrepreneurs, as well performances from more than 30 national, regional, and local artists, including Breathe Carolina, Unwritten Law, FFU (featuring Bam Margera), Shwayze, and Arum Rae (featuring Steve West of Pavement). Additionally, ICE has partnered with Coastal Edge to feature skate demos with national and local celebrities.

At this year’s ICE, entrepreneurs will get an opportunity to pitch their ideas to local investors and hopefully come home with some funding for their startups. We’re also proud to hold our Southeastern Virginia edition of Tech.Co’s Startup of the Year Competition & Mixer at ICE (Innovation, Culture, Extreme).

Need more reasons to go? Here are the top 5 reasons why entrepreneurs need take a beach trip:

1. A Time to Unplug

As a startup founder, you’ll often find yourself hooked to a device for a majority of your days. Whether it’s on your laptop doing work or checking email on your phone, your desire to make your company succeed is tied to this notion of having to be plugged in 24/7 – but maybe this is a misguided belief. According to a study from the University of Gothenburg (Sweden), constant technology use has been linked to numerous mental health issues (like depression), higher levels of stress, and sleeping problems.

And if you want to escape the daily drudgery of emails, then the beach is where you need to go. According to a study, the brain becomes less stressed when looking at nature scenes; if you’re a startup founder in a big metro area, maybe consider making a trip to Virginia Beach and relaxing for a bit. In another study conducted by the University of Exeter (UK), those living near a beach were found to be in better health and well-being than others. So, maybe even considering just picking everything up and moving to the beach?

2. Get Some Sun Time

For many entrepreneurs, the days and nights are spent indoors. Going to the beach gives you an opportunity to leave your gave and get some actual time in the sun. But it’s not simply about getting a tan when you lay out at the beach, it’s also about getting your dose of much-needed vitamin D.

According to findings from Harvard Medical School, the largest source of vitamin D is not through daily supplements, but through sun exposure to our very own skin. This vitamin D is not only a necessity for bone and skin health, but may also have the potential to improve our mental health. In the startup world, where success is glamorously lauded, anything that can help boost the state of your mental health is surely welcoming.

3. Benefits of Being Near Water

Did you know that we’re actually happier when near bodies of water? According to a 2011 study that tracked the well-being of approximately 22,000 participants, people were found to be 5.2 percent happier just by merely being near bodies of water. And if you’re into swimming, the activity has actually been found to contribute to decreased stress, anxiety, and levels of depression – all things that many entrepreneurs experience in their day-to-day.

4. Sensory Stimulation

Various studies have found that a stimulation of all our senses can contribute to the creative process. The sound of the waves, the smells from various boardwalk vendors, the taste of the salty air, the feel of the sand beneath your feet, and the view of the setting sun – the beach is replete with things that could help kickstart your creativity. Oftentimes, whether a company thrives depends on whether it was able to successfully find a creative way to solve a problem.

5. Social Interaction

Humans are innately social creatures – going too long without interacting with another human can have a significant impact on our personal health. For some entrepreneurs who are just starting out, there’s a chance that you’re working simply by yourself. The beach is probably one of the best places to meet new people and socialize. You never now – maybe you’ll talk to someone who’ll want to support your company in some way.

Play a pick-up frisbee game with the beachmates to your left, hit up the ICE block party, or mingle with other investors and entrepreneurs at ICE and Dice (over games of Texas Hold ‘em, Blackjack, Craps, or Roulette, of course).

How To Create A Flyer In Google Docs

Google Docs is a comprehensive and free online word processor from Google that allows you to create almost everything you can imagine. You can create documents, articles, blog posts, brochures, and a lot more. While it offers the most common features, when it comes to creating graphic-intensive documents, you can end up feeling a bit limited in terms of creative options. This might be an issue you might be facing if you’re trying to create a flyer in Google Docs.

If you’re in the same boat, then here’s a comprehensive guide to help you create detailed and eye-catching flyers in Google Docs.

Does Google Docs offer a flyer template?

Unfortunately, Google Docs does not have a dedicated template that can help you easily create flyers. However, Docs offers a lot of tools that can help you create attractive flyers manually. You can add images, charts, drawings, shapes, and a lot more when creating a flyer in Google Docs. These tools can help you create most types of flyers in Google Docs, including flyers with tear-offs. You can use the sections below to help you create flyers manually in Google Docs depending on your current requirements.

How to make a flyer in Google Docs

You can choose to create a normal flyer in Google Docs or one with tear-offs. Use the relevant section below to create the preferred type of flyer, depending on your current requirements. Let’s get started.

Style 1: Make a normal flyer

Step 1: Format your page and margins

Let’s start by setting up your Google Docs page so that you can easily create a flyer and remove margins from your flyer. Use the steps below to help you with the process.

Ensure Pages is selected at the top.

Add a preferred page color using the drop-down menu. A colored background will help your flyer stand out from the rest and help you get more readers.

Lastly, replace all your margins with 0. This will allow you to use the entire page when creating your flyer. You can choose to keep margins if you don’t wish to add much content to your flyers and wish to keep the design minimalistic.

And that’s it! You will now have formatted your page to fit your flyer needs.

Step 2: Format your text and images

You can now add images and text to your flyer to complete your design. This process is pretty much similar to creating a brochure in Google Docs. Thus, we recommend you refer to this guide from us to help you create your flyer. You can add images, create drawings, format your text, change and add watermarks and much more using the guide. This should help you create an interesting and unique flyer catering to your needs.

Style 2: Make a tear-off flyer

To make a tear-off flyer, you can use a drawing to create and add vertical text to your flyer, which can then be torn off by potential customers. Here’s how you can make a tear-off flyer in Google Docs.

Step 1: Create a flyer

Start by creating a flyer as you did above. Ensure that you leave enough space at the bottom to add your tear-offs. While we will be adding tear-offs in the footer, it will still end up taking space at the bottom of your flyer. Thus we recommend you leave enough space and add additional text if you have space remaining when you finish your flyer’s design. Additionally, we recommend you keep in mind the paper you wish to print your flyer on. We recommend using the Portrait orientation when dialing in your page sizes and margins using the guide above. This will give you enough space to create your flyer while making sure you have enough space in your footer to create tear-offs.

Step 2: Create space for tear-offs

Now that your flyer has been created, let’s make space for tear-offs in your footer section. Follow the steps below to help you along with the process.

Hover over Headers & footers and select Footer.

Now place your cursor on the extreme left, at the position of the first character of the footer.

Similarly, drag your right margin marker to the extreme right.

You will now have created space for tear-offs in your flyer. You can now use the next step to add drawings with your contact information and more for tear-offs.

Step 3: Use drawings to add vertical tear-offs

Open your flyer in Google Docs and place your cursor at the position of the first character in your footer. As we dialed in the spaces above, your cursor will show up at the edge of your document.

Hover over Drawing and select + New.

Hover over Shapes and select the basic rectangular box.

Draw a box roughly the size of the text you wish to add. You can adjust this size later to better suit your needs.

Adjust the size of your text box so that the information fits in a single line.

Hover over Rotate. Select Rotate clockwise 90° or Rotate counter-clockwise 90° based on your preferences.

Note: Ensure you have the text box selected and not the text. These options will be greyed out if you have the text selected.

Similarly, rotate the rectangular box we had added earlier.

Move the text box above the box shape we had added earlier.

Now adjust the size of the rectangular box to fit your text box.

Additionally, you can choose to Bold, Italicize, and Underline the text if needed using the dedicated icons.

Place your cursor beside the drawing and use Ctrl + V to paste a copy of it.

Press Ctrl + V multiple times to populate the entire footer.

And that’s it! You will now have added tear-offs to your flyer in Google Docs.

Pros and Cons of using Google Docs to create a flyer

Google Docs is a free-to-use word processor, which makes it easily accessible to anyone. You get access to a huge library of fonts, templates, formatting options, and more when creating your flyer. This makes it pretty easy to use without having to worry about export options and how you will be printing your document.

On the other hand, it offers limited options when it comes to adding images, graphics, overlays, and more to your flyer. You could end up feeling limited in terms of creativity which can be a huge downside if you are looking to create a professional flyer. Thus if you’d like more creative control over your flyer, you can choose to use one of the other alternatives mentioned in the next section.
