How To Factory Reset Your Xbox Console

There are many situations where you may want to factory reset your Xbox. Maybe you’re experiencing technical issues, or perhaps you want to get rid of your personal data before selling your console (especially if you want to upgrade to the recently-launched Xbox Series X/S). No matter the reason, we show you how to factory reset your Xbox, covering all the currently possible ways in 2023.

How to Reset Your Xbox One X/S & Xbox Series X/S to Factory Settings

Resetting your Xbox One X/S as well as Xbox Series X/S console to the factory settings is quite easy.

1. Press the “Xbox” button on your controller, which will open the guide menu (on the left side of your TV screen).

4. On the left side of the screen, navigate to “Reset Console.” You will see three options. Take a look below to learn what each of those options can do.

If you plan on selling your Xbox console or giving it away, you’ll want to select “Reset and Remove Everything.” This completely erases your Xbox One X/S or Xbox Series X/S and restores the console to the factory defaults. In other words, this option completely removes all personal data, including account info, games, and installed apps.

On the rare occasion your Xbox is not functioning properly, you can reset the console as a way of troubleshooting the problem. Selecting “Reset & Keep My Games & Apps” will reset your Xbox’s operating system. Doing so has the potential to find and delete corrupted files without deleting your games or apps.

Based on what you select, your Xbox One X/S or Xbox Series X/S will start to erase its data and restore everything to default values. Remember that if you decide to reset your Xbox completely, this process can take some time to complete.

How to Reset Your Xbox One X/S or Xbox Series X/S Using a USB Drive

If for some reason you cannot access the Settings app or there’s no picture on your TV screen, don’t fret. You can still reset your Xbox One with a USB drive.

Prepare the USB Flash Drive on Your PC

The first thing you’ll need to do is plug your USB drive (minimum 4GB) into your computer. Most USB drives come formatted as FAT32 out-of-the-box to ensure compatibility with both macOS and Windows.

Once your flash drive is formatted, download the Restore to Factory Default file. This is a compressed .zip file that contains all of the necessary files to reset your Xbox One console. Once you’ve downloaded this file, unzip it. Locate the file labeled “$SystemUpdate.” Copy it to the root of your USB drive.

Prepare Your Xbox One X/S or Xbox Series X/S

There are a few things you’ll want to do before you plug the USB drive into your Xbox console:

1. First, unplug the network cable if you are using a wired Internet connection. If your Xbox connects to the Internet over Wi-Fi, you can ignore this step.

2. Shut down the console completely. Don’t put it in rest mode – turn it off completely (which you can do by pressing the “Power” button on your Xbox for about 10 seconds until its light turns off).

3. Once your Xbox shuts down, unplug the power cable to make sure your console is totally powered off. Wait for around 30 seconds or so before you plug the power cable back in.

Begin the Reset Process on Your Xbox Console

With your Xbox powered off, plug the flash drive into a USB port on the console. Press and hold the BIND button and the EJECT button (at the same time). While holding these two buttons down, press the Xbox button on the console. Continue to hold down the BIND and EJECT buttons for an additional 10 to 15 seconds.

Note: The BIND button is also known as the “pairing” button. It is the same button one would press to pair a new controller to the console. If you’re not sure where that button is located, refer to the diagram below. Also, when it comes to Xbox Series X/S consoles, this button is found on their front side.

At this point you should hear two “power-up” tones a few seconds apart. Release the BIND and EJECT buttons after the second tone. Also, feel free to remove the USB stick when the console restarts and powers on again.

Once your Xbox One X/S or Xbox Series X/S restarts, you should see your console’s “Digital Setup Experience” guide on your TV screen. This will indicate that your Xbox has returned to its factory settings.

Note: If you don’t hear anything after 15 seconds, that means the process has failed. Also, if you hear any “power-down” tones, that also means you’ve entered the process incorrectly. Therefore, you’ll want to try the sequence again.

Now that we’ve shared how to factory reset your Xbox console, we’d like to share a few useful articles. Here’s all you need to know about the backward compatibility of Xbox Series X/S consoles. You’ll also want to learn how to format Xbox external hard dives for use on a PC.

How To Erase & Reset Android To Factory Settings

If you have an Android phone or tablet that is no longer in use and gathering dust, selling it or giving it to a new owner is often a good idea. Before you do that though, you’ll almost certainly want to erase all personal data on the phone by resetting the Android to the factory default settings. This is frequently encountered by those who use both platforms, but also for those who are moving from Android to an iPhone.

You’ll probably want to copy your pictures, contacts, and other important data from the Android before doing this if you haven’t done so already, particularly if you’re migrating over to an iPhone. Moving contacts to an iPhone from Android is quite simple with this method, though if you’re going to juggle both iOS and Android platforms you may want to use Google Sync instead. Much like resetting an iPhone to factory settings, once the Android is erased and reset, it will boot back into a setup process that is ready for a new owner or fresh configuration.

Clearing all data off an Android phone is quite simple and the process is generally the same regardless of which version of Android software the phone is running, though there an be slight variations in what menu options you’d need to select. This works the same on basically all Android smartphones and tablets, including the Nexus and Galaxy series.

Erasing & Resetting an Android to Factory Default Settings

This will erase everything off the Android phone or tablet. In the newest versions of Android (like a Nexus 5), just do the following:

Open the Settings app and go to “Backup & Reset”

Scroll down and choose “Factory data reset” to start the data removal process, you may need to enter your passcode to continue if the Android is protected

Confirm that you want to erase everything off of the Android by choosing “Erase everything”

The Android will power off and reboot itself, when the screen turns back on you’ll see a little progress bar, and then the phone will restart itself yet again, booting to a freshly formatted Android phone without any personal data stored on the device.

Reset an Older Android Phone to Factory Default Settings

Some Android phones may have the data erase and reset option stored in a different menu item, but otherwise the process is the same. This should be the case with Android 4 for many HTC and Samsung phones that are a bit older:

Open the Settings app on the Android phone

Under Device settings, go to “Storage” (as opposed to Backup & Reset)

Choose “Factory data reset – Erases all data on phone”

Confirm that you want to erase everything on the Android phone

Whichever method you use to format the Android phone or tablet, the device will boot back up and Android will want to start the setup process immediately, so if you’re going to give the phone to someone else, or sell it, then you may want to avoid starting the setup procedure and just pass it off the new owner at this new setup screen.

Separately, if the Android phone uses external storage through an SD Card, you may want to erase that storage card or even remove it if you have personal data on there.

How to reset Lenovo laptop

Here’s how to reset your Lenovo Laptop for Windows 10, Windows 11, or by using Lenovo OneKey

Figuring out how to reset Lenovo laptop doesn’t have to be a laborious task. In fact, Lenovo laptops have additional functionality for this. On most laptops, there’s only one way to factory reset. But Lenovo provides an additional option to its users. It’s called OneKey Recovery.

So, the following article explains both ways of resetting a Lenovo laptop.

How to reset a Lenovo laptop using Lenovo OneKey Recovery

Lenovo laptops like the ThinkPad or the IdeaPad come with the Lenovo OneKey Recovery Mode. It allows the users to use OneKey Recovery. OneKey Recovery is activated via the Novo Button. But there’s not always physical button on the laptop. Some models have a hole in the side of the laptop, and you have to use an unfolded paper clip or a SIM ejector tool or a similar object to press this button.

Do note that resetting your Lenovo laptop to factory defaults with this method will erase all data from it, so it’s best to back up any important files on an external hard drive or flash drive.

Step

1

Shut down your laptop

Power off your Lenovo laptop. Do this by going to the Windows start menu and selecting the ‘Shut down‘ option.

Step

2

Press the Novo button

Press the Novo button located either near the power button or on the side of your Lenovo laptop, the image below shows how this should look.

Some Novo buttons require a SIM ejector tool (or unfolded paper clip) to press.

The Novo button is very effective against booting issues, and the OneKey Recovery Mode can help you with system recovery.

Step

3

Open System Recovery

Step

4

Choose restore backup

Now we choose the kind of backup method to use before resetting. For most users, you’ll want to use the ‘Restore from initial backup‘ setting. This will reset your Lenovo laptop back to it’s factory settings.

If you instead have an external backup image, you can use the user’s backup option to configure this.

Step

5

Start system restoration

Step

6

Finish system restoration

Step

7

Set up your laptop

Once your laptop has rebooted, you’ll be greeted with some initial set-up screens as if the laptop was brand new. This confirms that the device has been reset to it’s factory settings.

Now you’ll have to follow the process of setting your laptop back up again. This includes choosing your region, language, licensing agreement, Wi-Fi, account, and personalization options.

Go through this process as normal and you’ll be booted back into your fresh installation of Windows.

How to reset a Lenovo laptop in Windows

This is the conventional way to reset a Lenovo or any laptop for that matter. The steps are simple, but the process differs a bit between Windows 10 & 11.

For Windows 11

Follow the steps below if you are using Windows 11 on your Lenovo laptop.

Press the Win + I keys on your keyboard to open Windows Settings.

Select System on the left side of the window.

You have to choose between two options. Keep My Files & Remove Everything.

After selecting an option, you will proceed to the next window, where you have to choose between Cloud Download or Local Reinstall.

Note: Even if you choose the Keep My Files option, it is best to make a backup of all your files beforehand. Just in case something goes wrong. If you don’t have a valid backup system, use a cloud-based storage service or an external drive.

For Windows 10

This is for Windows 10 users only. It is slightly different.

Open Windows Settings and navigate to the Update & Security option.

Select the Recovery option on the left side of the window.

After this point, you have to choose between Keep My Files and Remove Everything.

Note: As discussed earlier, be sure to create a backup, no matter which option you choose.

When trying to execute a printing command, users are sometimes met with a popup error b203 message. Consequently, this error prevents them from finishing the task on their Canon printer.

This printing error likely occurs due to minor issues in a printer device, such as an empty cartridge, the need for a firmware update, an outdated printer driver, a paper jam, or an unstable connection between the printer and the system.

If you are also one of those users facing the error code b203, we have prepared this guide to help you fix it just like we did with the Canon printer not printing black issue.

What is Canon printer error b203?

The Canon printer error b203 means you are trying to print a file when your printer cannot complete the task. This can be due to an empty ink cartridge, an outdated driver, or a faulty printhead.

How can I fix Canon printer error b203? 1. Perform a power cycle

First, turn off your Canon printer.

Disconnect the power cord from the wall outlet.

Then, re-open it by holding the Power button for a minute.

Attach the power cord again and connect it to your device.

Power on both the system and the Canon printer.

Now, try to take a print and check whether the printer error b203 is resolved.

2. Check your ink cartridge

First, turn off your printer and make sure all the ink cartridges are full. You can pull all the ink cartridges out of the printer and ensure plenty of ink. Refill the cartridge to resolve the error.

Moreover, improper installation of ink tanks can also generate this precise printer issue. Make sure that’s not your case.

3. Rule out a potentially bad network connection

To further verify and fix this problem, consider that a bad network connection between the printer and the system could be the core of it.

So, if you have wirelessly connected the system to your printer, try reconnecting it to rectify the issue.

4. Remove paper jam

Open the front cover and remove all the torn papers.

If there are any obstacles between the paper feed tray and the front cover, turn out the blue thumbwheel and clean it.

Reconnect the printer with the power outlet and the PC.

Try to take a printout and check whether the error reappears or not.

Expert tip:

You’ll want to look at drivers if the above does not work. They help the printer and the operating system communicate, so their software must be updated.

If the driver becomes corrupted, the system may crash, resulting in these annoying errors. If Windows can’t find the latest driver, you need to visit the manufacturer’s website to look for it.

6. Use Windows Troubleshooter

Most of the time, the cause of this error is related to simple internal issues of the printer. However, sometimes, the connected system is also responsible for it. This tool steps in as the default troubleshooter on Windows 10, ready to keep your printer free of any errors.

You can easily open it from the search bar by just writing troubleshoot in the search area. Then, this handy tool will automatically resolve all identified issues.

Any solid particles, specks of dust, dirt, etc., found in the paper tray sometimes lead to this kind of error. Don’t hesitate to clean the printhead with a wet cotton ball. Let it dry for some time, and put the cartridge back again.

We hope our solutions and suggestions help fix the Canon printer b203 error. If your Canon printer is not installing drivers, check our detailed guide to fix the issue quickly.
