At last the Galaxy S4 users at US Cellular have the Android 5.0 Lollipop update treat available. It’s a long wait no doubt, almost nine months since Lollipop was released. While other Galaxy S4 sets received the update way earlier, it was poor from US Cellular to delay the update for so long.
This is also perhaps the last update US Cellular Galaxy S4 will see, as there are very slim chances of Android 5.1 making it to the device. And absolutely no chances of an Android M update for US Cellular S4.
If you can’t install OTA update, or haven’t received the Lollipop OTA yet, you can still update your US Cellular S4 to Android 5.0 by downloading and installing the full firmware manually.
Just look at the guide below, which will help you in using Odin PC software to install and update your USC S4 to Android 5.0.

Don’t try this on any other Samsung Galaxy S4 or any device than model no. R970!

Instructions
Disclamer: Installing an official firmware through Odin doesn’t void your device’s warranty, but it remains an unofficial process and thus you need to be cautious of it. In any case, you only are responsible for your device. We won’t be liable if any damage occurs to your device and/or its components.
Backup important files stored on your device before proceeding with the steps below, so that in case something goes wrong you’ll have backup of all your important files. Sometimes, Odin installation may delete everything on your device!
Download the Odin software and firmware file from above for your US Cellular S4.
You should get the a file in chúng tôi format now. We will be loading this file into Odin, to be installed on your Galaxy S4 (in step 10 below).
Extract the Odin file. You should get this file, Odin3 chúng tôi (other files could be hidden, hence not visible).
Disconnect your S4 from PC if it is connected.
Boot USC Galaxy S4 into download mode:
Power off your S4. Wait 6-7 seconds after screen goes off.
Press and hold the three buttons Volume Down + Power + Home together until you see warning screen.
Press Volume Up to continue to download mode.
Connect your Galaxy S4 to PC now using USB cable. Odin should recognize your S4. It’s a must. When it recognizes, you will see Added!! message appearing in the Log box in bottom left, and the first box under ID:COM will also show a no. and turn its background blue. Look at the pic below.
You cannot proceed until you get the Added!! message, which confirms that Odin has recognized your device.
If you don’t get Added!! message, you need to install/re-install drivers again, and use the original cable that came with device. Mostly, drivers are the problem (look at step 2 above).
If Odin gets stuck at setup connection, then you need to do steps 6 to 12 again. For this, close Odin, disconnect your device, remove battery, insert it back after 5-6 seconds and then start from step 6 again.
That’s it. Enjoy the Android 5.0.1 OE2 update firmware, on your US Cellular Galaxy S4!

Verizon Galaxy S4 Scores Android 5.1 Update Too Unofficially
The official Android 5.1 update for Verizon Galaxy S4 via OTA or Kies is easily at least 3-4 months away, even if we’re to believe Samsung still cares about its S4 users — don’t forget that S4 is now full 2 years old, an update criteria that most OEMs stick to barely. But that’s not a big worry, at least we have the awesome developer community to bend toward, and grab an 5.1 update unofficially. The GamerROM is based off AOSP Android 5.1 update, and gets your OS all the goodness of pure stock Android UI — goodbye TouchWiz! — along with all the new features from the 5.1.
Even though is development stage, the GamerROM is working quite alright for the Verizon Galaxy S4. That’s a big plus, and a good achievement by the community to get a working build so early — even Nexus 4 is yet to get an official Android 5.1 update from Google as of today.
Though, there’s a one bug currently, the video recording is broken for now, but we really think it would be fixed pretty soon, maybe within a week, or two at the max. Network, Wi-fi, Bluetooth, etc. are all working fine.
And in any case, if you want to go back to official Samsung firmware for your Verizon Galaxy S4, you can do so pretty easily — a simple firmware flash using Odin software is all it takes to remove custom ROM, custom recovery and root, all in one shot, and restoring the phone back to stock, Samsung firmware.
Note: As you already know, it’s not an official Samsung Android 5.1 update for Verizon Galaxy S4, so expect few kinks at some corners of the ROM that are yet to be fixed by the team. Any major bugs will be reported below.

Bootloader of firmware MDK is preferred but not necessary. If you could install the MDK firmware, it’s great! Chances of that are slim if you are quite now to this.
Transfer the ROM file package file to your device’s internal storage and remember the location where you save it.
You need TWRP recovery for this. Get it from here. There’s good instructions set there, too. For more help, Google is your friend.
Boot into Recovery mode.
Once in TWRP recovery, take a backup of your current ROM. Select Backup, then do a “Swipe to Back Up” on the bottom of the screen.
Once the backup is finished, select Wipe, then do a “Swipe to Factory Reset” on the bottom of the screen.
Go back to the main menu of TWRP recovery and select Install.
Navigate to the file where you saved your ROM’s zip file, select it and “Swipe to Confirm Flash” on the bottom of the screen. Now wait until the flashing process finishes. It will also flash Gapps after flashing the ROM.
Go to back to recovery’s Main menu, select Reboot » select System.
Your device will now reboot with Android 5.1 update, thanks to GamerROM custom ROM.

With both carriers of the model SCH-R530 of Galaxy S3 getting the latest TWRP update, the US Cellular variant couldn’t be left behind, of course. The latest version promises to be void of the recovery in-compatibility issue with KitKat ROMs, which was due to ‘set metadata recursive’ error.
The latest version of TWRP would be compatible with all the Android 4.4 ROMs like CyanogenMod 11, OmniRom, RastaKat, etc. Now, you wouldn’t face the ‘set metadata recursive’ error.
The latest version of TWRP for US Cellular Galaxy S3, at the time of posting is 2.6.3.0.

Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom hands-on with photo examples
This week SlashGear has had the opportunity to have an up-close-and-personal look at the Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom, taking photos and a bit of video as we did so. What you’ll see here is the machine’s ability to capture high-quality media in several different situations both light and dark, indoors and out. We’ll also be getting to a full-on comparison run-down of this machine with the abilities of the Samsung Galaxy Camera as well – but for now, the smaller and newer of the two.
The Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom takes the body of what’s essentially the Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini and applies one big fat camera to its back. That’s not to say that this machine is fat – not by a long shot. It’s a bit thinner than the Samsung Galaxy Camera and feels like a whole different ball game in practice.
This device boasts a 4.3-inch Super AMOLED display on its back with a lovely piece of Gorilla Glass 3 to keep it all safe. While the touchscreen interface can control the majority of the bits and pieces you’ll be working with on this machine, you’ve also got a physical home button, back and menu buttons below the display (or to the right, depending on the orientation of the device when you’re holding it.)
Up front of this machine you’ve also got a 16-megapixel CMOS sensor with optical image stabilization working with 24-240mm 10x optical zoom, this paired with a F3.1-F6.3 lens with a Samsung Zoom Ring. We’ll get into the abilities of this ring as we move along into the full review – for now you’ll be glad to know that this ring’s abilities are not just limited to zooming in and out.
As it was with the Samsung Galaxy Camera, so too do you get a physical camera shutter button here. This device is made on one hand to be a phone – and it certainly looks the part from one side – and on the other a camera.
While you’ll get another healthy set of hands-on photos of this machine via Chris Davies from earlier this year in London, we’re kicking out the photo examples here and now. We’ll begin with a lovely macro photo of some wood.
As with the majority of the photos taken in this article, the above is snapped with the Galaxy S4 Zoom’s back-facing camera. As the above was taken with Macro mode, below you’ll see a shot taken from afar using the device’s Landscape mode.
While we’re in the graveyard, it makes sense to get outdoorsy with several shots both close and far away with a near “magic hour” timing. These photos were taken mostly with the camera’s smart auto mode, selecting the modes based on the suggestions of the software.
Next you’ll see two shots, one from afar, one up close. Closer, that is. These shots are taken from the same location in a department store, one of them with the lens working with no zoom whatsoever, the other at 100% zoom – 10x zoom, that is.
You’ll see a photo taken with the Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom’s flash on full blast next, taken of a wheel of a cart with a bit of dirt on it.
Finally you’ll see a collection of odd shots – both up close and afar, with the photos showing the Galaxy S4 Zoom taken in mirrors. The photo of my face (me, Chris Burns, that is), was taken with this machine’s front-facing camera. It’s surprisingly good, don’t be alarmed.
