Suggested March 2024 How To Remap Galaxy S8’S Bixby Button To Google Now
Samsung launched its latest flagships, the Galaxy S8 and S8+ to a lot of fanfare. The hype was well deserved, considering that Samsung had went all-in on minimal bezels, and a gorgeous edge to edge display. Among other new things, one of the features that was met with widespread skepticism was the dedicated Bixby button on the side of the phone. Users all around the world felt like this was yet another Google feature that Samsung had unnecessarily replicated, and then provided a dedicated hardware button for. Plus, with Bixby being crippled at launch, thanks to voice support not being available, it’s only natural that you may want to stick with using Google Now. So, if you want to use Google Now instead of Bixby, here is how to remap the Galaxy S8’s Bixby button to Google Now:Remapping the Bixby Button 1. A Brief History of Remapping the Bixby Button
Naturally, there have been many developments when it comes to remapping the Bixby button. Partly because no one was really excited about Bixby, and partly because well, it’s a hardware button that can be used for potentially anything you want to quickly access on your phone. Developers were quick to figure out a way to remap the Bixby button to almost anything you want your device to do.
However, Samsung pulled an Apple, and quickly pushed a software update that broke the workaround developers had been using to remap the Bixby button to other actions.2. Remap Bixby Button to Google Now
Since the software update made the “key up” and “key down” events get swallowed by the OS before reaching Accessibility Services, it broke the solution developers had come up with for remapping the Bixby button. Fortunately, Android developer “Dave Bennett” put together an app that will launch Google Now every time the Bixby button is pressed. Here is how to use it:
Install the BixRemap app (free) from the Play Store and launch it. The app needs Usage Data Access, and will automatically take you to the Settings page. Just allow Usage Data Access to BixRemap.
In the main screen, tap on “Start Service”. If you need to use Bixby for some reason, just tap on the “Stop Service” button.
That’s it, you can now try pressing the Bixby button on your Galaxy S8 or S8+, and Google Now will launch instead of Bixby.
The app works by looking for Bixby in the foreground, and launching Google Now over it. Due to this, you may see the Bixby screen for less than a second before it gets replaced by Google Now instead.Disable the BixRemap Notification
Here, turn off the toggle next to “BixRemap”.
This will block the notification from BixRemap from showing up in the Notification Shade, until the developer comes out with a more elegant solution.Feature Updates in BixRemap
One of the many good things about the BixRemap app is that the developer is very active on the Reddit thread dedicated to this app, and is replying to feature requests and improvement suggestions as well. Some of the features that may be added to the BixRemap app in future updates include things like:
Launch on boot option, so the app remains persistent after a reboot, essentially making the remapping “permanent”, unless explicitly disabled by the user.
Ability to choose a custom app for the Bixby Button. This will definitely be a great update to the BixRemap app, and will definitely be an amazing feature.
An option to increase polling time in an attempt to reduce the delay between pressing the button and launching Google Now.Remap Bixby Button to Google Now with BixRemap
With the BixRemap app, you can easily remap the Bixby Button on your Galaxy S8 and S8+ to launch Google Now instead of Bixby. While the previous method that intercepted the “key up”, “key down” events to assign specific functionality to the Bixby Button has been disabled with the software update that Samsung pushed to all S8 and S8+ devices, this new app will definitely keep working. Plus, with the great feature updates that the developer already has planned, there is no doubt that the app might well become one of the must have apps on your Galaxy S8 or S8+ device.

Update May 5: We’ve now added a non-app method for remapping the Galaxy S8’s Bixby button on a rooted device. If rooting isn’t your style, we’ve also listed the pros and cons of some of the better Bixby remapping apps in Google Play.
As the saying goes, when the world gives you lemons, make lemonade. Or in this case, when Samsung gives you Bixby, use an app to remap the Bixby button to Google Assistant or any other app.
A number of apps helping people to remap their Bixby button have cropped up. We’ve decided to list some of the best options and talk about what we like and what we don’t.Remap Bixby without an app
If you feel comfortable with rooting your Galaxy S8, a developer has demonstrated how you can remap Bixby on the Galaxy S8 without needing an app. You can remap the Bixby button to a wide variety of options including launching the camera, Google Assistant and much more.
The procedure does require using a root explorer, and is definitely not for everyone. You will also have to rename and edit a file or two in your smartphone, which again we don’t recommend if you are not already comfortable with handling these kinds of tasks. You can find detailed instructions on the XDA Developers forum.BixRemap
It’s not a very elegant solution and means that you’ll have both Bixby and Assistant running on top of each other, but until a more polished fix comes (I’m sure there are more than a few devs working on it as we speak) it’ll suffice. Several other Redditors have suggested the app be updated to lower its priority settings to remove the persistent status bar icon and to add a launch at boot option. Bennett seems to be open to the ideas so keep your eyes peeled for that update.bxActions
bxActions is a very well designed app that gives you access to a number of different actions to map the Bixby button to. You can’t remap the button to whatever you want, but the 10 options it does give you are all quite useful to have on the fly. You’ll have to set up Hello Bixby for the app to work while the screen is off, and after that it will quickly launch Bixby, then your app, then close Bixby. This proves just how “hacky” this method is, but you can’t see the series of actions when the screen is unlocked, so its really not much of an issue.
Check out the screenshots above to see if this is the app for you, or continue on to see other options.
BixBye has quite a bit more functionality than something like bxActions, allowing you to do things like launch individual apps with a tap of the Bixby button. The app isn’t quite as intuitive or good looking however, but it’s up to you whether or not this is something you actually care about. Another unfortunate aspect of this app is that is that it will launch apps underneath the lock screen, forcing you to unlock the screen yourself to get access to these apps. It’s a trade off, really, so you’ll have to decide if you value more functionality over convenience. Check out the screenshots below, and decide for yourself if this is the best remap for you.
Note: We did notice some issues with this app, mainly focused around disabling the functionality. After toggling the remap off it still performed the action, so you’ll have to remap the button to “Do Nothing” in order to actually turn it off.Bixby Button Remapper
Bixby remapper is a bit of a hybrid between the previous 2 options, having a decent looking interface while also offering quite a lot of functionality. There is also a beta option that offers faster launching, though it may not work every time. You have the option of doing quite specific actions like pressing the back or home button.
While we’re not sure why you would want to do this, it’s always nice to have the option.
Unfortunately like BixBye this app will not unlock your screen and will only do actions and launch apps in the background, so if you want this functionality you may want to go with something like bxActions. Check it out.
Which Bixby remap app is your favorite? Is there a great one you didn’t see covered here?

Having a smart assistant right on your Android phone is extremely helpful, and useful. From turning lights on and off in your home to sending messages when your hands are full, the possibilities are almost endless.
Although Google, Apple, and Amazon have a significant lead in the smart assistant department, some companies have tried to combat the big boys. Samsung is arguably the largest company to try and take on the trifecta of smart assistants with Bixby. But even though it’s built into your phone, you will probably want to turn off Bixby on the Galaxy S23 in favor of Google Assistant. What is Bixby?
Bixby was originally introduced back in 2023 with the launch of the Galaxy S8 lineup. This was meant to be a competitor to the likes of Google Assistant, Amazon Alexa, and Siri.
As expected, Samsung has integrated Bixby in a wide variety of ways across all Galaxy phones, including the Galaxy S21. Samsung has put plenty of work into Bixby to try and make it a viable option. However, the truth is that it just ends up getting in the way of using the vastly-superior Google Assistant. How to turn off Bixby on Galaxy S23
As is the case with last year’s Galaxy S22 (and many other Galaxy phones), Samsung tries to “force” you into using Bixby right out of the box. Instead of having a traditional Power Menu when you press and hold the Power button, Samsung opts to use this as the default method for activating Bixby. It’s an extremely frustrating proposition, but one that can easily be remedied if you don’t mind jumping into the Settings app.
Open the Settings app on your Galaxy s23.
Scroll down until you reach Advanced Features.
Tap Side key.
Under Press and hold, tap Power off menu.
Exit the Settings app.
After you disable Bixby from the Side Button, you’ll be presented with the traditional Power Menu whenever you press and hold down the Side button. This transforms it back into the Power Button that we’ve been accustomed to for years.Disable “Hi Bixby” Voice Detection
Another way that Samsung wants you to use Bixby is with your voice. Much like Apple’s Siri and Google Assistant, you can summon Bixby with a simple “Hi Bixby” phrase. Once your Galaxy S23 recognizes the request, a little pop-up menu will appear at the bottom, ready for you to ask Bixby some questions. here’s how you can disable Bixby from appearing with voice detection:
Open the Bixby app on your Galaxy S23.
Tap the browser-looking icon in the bottom right corner.
In the top right corner, tap the three vertical dots.
Tap Settings from the drop-down menu.
Tap Voice wake-up.
At the top of the page, tap the toggle next to Voice wake-up.
Now, you will no longer need to worry about your Galaxy S23 accidentally triggering Bixby with your voice. If you want to try Bixby out, you can still do so by opening the Bixby app on your phone. But it won’t be an “in your face” approach, and you can just use your Galaxy S23 the way that you want. Can you use Google Assistant instead of Bixby?
Although Samsung does not allow you to explicitly use Google Assistant instead of Bixby, there are a few workarounds. If you happen to be using gestures instead of the navigation bar, this is the easiest way to activate Assistant. Simply swipe inwards from the bottom left or right corners, and Google Assistant will activate.
Additionally, you can actually set the Side Button to activate specific applications with a double tap.
Swipe down to reveal the notification shade.
Tap the Power button in the top right corner.
From the Power Menu, tap the Side Key Settings button at the bottom.
Select Open app under Double Press.
Scroll down and select Google.
Now this will exactly activate Google Assistant, but it will automatically bring up the Google app. It’s kind of a wonky workaround, but it’s still a quick shortcut to activate Google whenever you want, from wherever.
Samsung really has gone to great lengths to try and improve Bixby since its inception. Bixby Routines are rather impressive, as it’s similar to Apple’s Siri Shortcuts on iOS. But the fact remains that Bixby just isn’t powerful enough to handle the day-to-day needs.
Let us know what you think about Bixby. Have you decided to stick with it? Or did you give up the goose, opting for Google Assistant or Amazon Alexa instead?
Admittedly, Android tablets continue to pale in comparison to the experience that you get with an iPad. However, Samsung continues to push the limits of what an Android tablet can do, and the Galaxy Tab S8 lineup comes as the latest and greatest that Samsung has to offer. Even though the app experience may not be the greatest, all of the basic features are still available on these tablets, including the ability to screenshot on Samsung Galaxy Tab S8.How to Screenshot on Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 Screenshot on Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 Using Buttons
Just like the Galaxy S22, and most Android phones for that matter, the easiest way to take a screenshot on the Galaxy Tab S8 is to use the hardware buttons. If you are holding the tablet in landscape mode, they are found on the top, but if you are holding the Tab S8 in portrait mode, they will be found on the right.
From there, whenever you want to take a screenshot, just press the Power and Volume Down buttons at the same time. You will need to do so rather quickly as if you hold the Power button for too long, you could accidentally invoke Bixby or Google Assistant.Palm Swipe
If it wasn’t already obvious, there are a lot of similarities between the Galaxy Tab S8 and Galaxy S22. This includes being able to use various gestures, including Palm Swipe.
Palm Swipe is a feature that essentially lets you swipe the palm of your hand across the screen in order to take a screenshot. However, before you can use this feature, you’ll first need to enable it from the Settings app.
Open the Settings app on your Galaxy Tab S8.
Scroll down and tap Advanced Features.
Scroll down and tap Motions and Gestures.
Tap the toggle next to Palm swipe to capture to enable the feature.
Once the Palm Swipe gesture is enabled, just exit the Settings app and then swipe your palm across the screen. You should see a momentary flash before the edit menu appears at the bottom of the screen.S Pen
No matter what version of the Galaxy Tab S8 you decide on, all three of them include an S Pen in the box. It’s one way that Samsung tries to gain a leg up on Apple’s iPad, which requires a separate purchase if you want to use the Apple Pencil.
Detach your S Pen from the back of your Galaxy Tab S8.
Tap the Air Command icon.
Select Smart select.
After tapping Smart Select, an outlined box will appear on your screen. You can use the S Pen to change the size of the box, depending on what it is that you are taking a screenshot of. Once you’ve lined everything up for the screenshot, just tap the Save icon on the far-right corner of the bottom toolbar.Edge Panels and Smart Select
Edge Panels are a quick and easy way for you to access different apps or widgets without going back to your home screen. These can also be used to access various tools built into your Galaxy Tab S8, including offering a quick way to take a screenshot. But before you can go down that route, you’ll first need to enable both Edge Panels and Smart Select on the Galaxy Tab S8.
Open the Settings app on your Galaxy Tab S8.
Scroll down and tap Edge Panels.
Tap the toggle next to Edge Panels to turn this feature on.
Make sure that Smart Select is enabled.
Close the Settings app.
Navigate to the page that you want to take a screenshot of.
Open the Edge Panel with a swipe from the side of the screen.
You should see a small outline of a box indicating where Edge Panels reside.
Swipe again until you see the Smart Select panel.
Select one of the following:
After you pick between the two options, you’ll see the same outlined box as you find when taking a screenshot with an S Pen. Just adjust the outline, and then tap the Save icon found in the bottom toolbar. In DeX mode
DeX Mode is one of those unique features that helps Samsung’s lineup of tablets stand out from the pack. When enabled, your Galaxy Tab S8 is essentially transformed into a laptop-like interface, complete with a different home screen and so much more. You can even go so far as to connect the tablet to a monitor using an HDMI cable and use the Galaxy Tab S8 that way.
From DeX Mode, the other options for taking a screenshot are still applicable, but Samsung offers one that’s even easier than all of those. When enabled, DeX Mode presents a “dock” at the bottom of the screen. Along with housing different apps, there are a few shortcuts to be found here too. This includes a dedicated screenshot button, so you can take a screenshot on Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 with just a single press.Voice Commands
While Bixby isn’t the greatest digital assistant for mobile devices, it does have a few handy features. But with the Galaxy Tab S8, you can go so far as to ditch Bixby and use the vastly-superior Google Assistant if you want. No matter the case, either of these digital assistants allows you to take a screenshot with nothing more than your voice.
After Bixby or Google Assistant has been set up on your Galaxy Tab S8, all you need to do is say, “Hey Bixby (or Google), take a screenshot.”Using a Physical Keyboard
Just as we saw with the Galaxy Tab S7 launch, Samsung has released a series of keyboard covers for all three of the Galaxy Tab S8 options. This means that you can truly turn your Galaxy Tab S8 into a laptop replacement whenever you need to. But this also means that you can take a screenshot right from your keyboard whenever it’s attached to the Galaxy Tab S8.
With the keyboard connected, press the ALT + DeX keys at the same time. Make sure that you press the ALT key first, as you will either enter or leave DeX Mode if you press that key first. Once the screenshot has been successfully captured, the screen will briefly flash and you’ll be presented with a toolbar to make edits, save the screenshot, or share it.Conclusion

Jumping the motherboard is a quick option to power on the device, but doing it every time can seriously damage the motherboard and chassis.
Here is what you have to do.
Start with unplugging the charging cable from the laptop.
Unscrew the laptop case and locate the power button.
Next, remove the button located over the power switch.
You will find 3 to 6 pins under the power button, which needs a jump.
Use a conducting tool like a metal screwdriver to short-circuit pins 1 and 3.
Wait for your laptop to turn on.
It is best to try this method with the assistance of a technician because it can damage your motherboard and laptop chassis if done incorrectly.
In such a case, you might have to upgrade your laptop’s motherboard or get a new laptop.

Also known as cold-start, configuring the clock battery method will quickly power your laptop.
However, it will require expertise and a lot of caution.
Follow these steps to configure the clock battery method.
Start by unscrewing the laptop’s bottom cover using the appropriate screwdriver.
Next, disconnect the battery cable connecting to the motherboard.
Next, remove the clock or CMOS battery from the motherboard by pressing the clip or tab.
Now, connect the battery cable to the motherboard to turn it on.5. Using a Wall Socket

However, this is quite risky and may require keeping the laptop cover open all the time.
Start by unscrewing the laptop’s bottom cover using the appropriate screwdriver.
Next, disconnect the battery cable connecting to the motherboard.
Instead of removing the clock battery, like previously mentioned, connect the laptop charger to the device.
It will turn your device on immediately.6. Configuring Laptop Lid Action
It is quite a unique approach to powering the device when all other methods fail.
Here is how you can power your device when instantly opening the lid.
Restart your laptop and press the key “F2,” “F10,” or “DEL” to access the BIOS.
Navigate to Power Management or Power Settings.
Next, enable the “Power on with Open Lid” and save the settings. Conclusion
These options will be handy if you have ever had a problem with powering your laptop using the power switch.
However, enable one of these methods immediately to stop worrying about this problem.
