Keywords – the most important thing to you in search – is going the way of the Old Yeller.

You had to make sure your keyword list was as robust as possible, looking at both long tail and short tail, because without that extensive keyword list, your coverage (this is pre-close match variants) could be limited.

For a fun time, go find your nearest search OG (anyone that has been doing this since 2007 or earlier), and ask them what “bid jamming” is.

Then pull up a chair and let them ramble for 2 hours.

Fast forward to today and all you can hear in the back of your head is Google Ads and Microsoft Advertising, laughing at your attempts to build a keyword list.


Because keywords in SEM are starting to serve less and less value.

Think of them as having the lifeguard at the swimming events in the Olympics, a “nice to have, but not necessary.”

The Era of Keywordless Search

So where’s the evidence keywords have less value?

Most of us (especially SMBs) are already going through the keyword SEM life.

Let’s review the examples.


The little local listings/review search platform.

More specifically, the local search platform that the big G, for some reason, just cannot seem to overtake.

There isn’t really much to manage.

Seem like a waste/pointless/poor example?

Well, remember, just about every restaurant under the sun is on Yelp – not to mention service-based operations.

Still need more proof that keywords are going the way of old yeller?

Well, let’s talk about…

Microsoft Advertising

Surely, they would never surrender keywords on me, right?


Don’t take it that I dislike Bing/Microsoft.

In fact, I am a huge fan of their work in certain verticals, especially healthcare (see one of my prior articles: Why Bing Should Be First in Your Healthcare Search Strategy [DATA]).

That said, they too, have headed in the world of keywordless search.

Bing gets you at three different angles (just off the top of my head):

Shopping/Product Listing Ads (PLAs): You know what it is, you love it, you run it. But there are still no keywords involved.

Dynamic Search Ads (DSAs): Scrapes your site, decides what queries you should show for. Hey, at least it lets you design a fraction of the ad and still feel like you have a purpose.


I feel like this is the most self-explanatory (unless you’re doing self-service/manual).

We give Amazon money and a target.

They run with it.


Yes, it is search. Social/search.


Now for the big G.

But if anyone is trying to get rid of the keyword faster, it is them.

But wait, there is so much more:


Your ad appears and you get some info on where it triggers, but it is just audiences.


Smart Campaigns

The coup de grâce.

A campaign where you set up a campaign with an audience and an ad, and you’ll get some high-level numbers back.

No keywords.

(Disclaimer: Being a large enterprise operator, I personally detest Smart Campaigns due to lack of transparency, but if you’re a single person shop/SMB operation, it’ll save you a bundle of time.)

So yes, I just wrote out all those examples to reiterate my point: we’re already moving toward a keywordless search operation.

The only remaining question is:

“Are you prepared?”

Odds are, if you found this article’s title interesting, and you’re still reading it to this point, then you’re either not prepared, or not fully confident.

That is OK.

There is time for you.

So What Should You Do?

Important: Do not delete your keywords, regardless of how this article finishes or influences you.

Keywords are not gone and are still necessary.

But what is about to become even more necessary for you to work with is: audiences.

Whether it be detailed demographics pinpointing women 25-34 who own a home and have children under age 7, to people who abandon your shopping cart with 3+ items in it, or those whose LinkedIn profiles indicate they are office administrators.

They just became as important (if not more important) than your piddly little “keyword strategy.”

Step 1: Get Your Messaging on Point

This means examining what messaging works best in regular keyword search, Facebook, GDN, etc.

This messaging should be consistent, but don’t let one platform dictate it.

The “sharing is caring” method of asset analysis is huge.

As for Shopping campaigns – there are a lot of different schools of thought about what is best.

I must admit, I find Google’s best practices guide for optimizing a product feed to be the best.

Remember, just because it appears on your site one way, does not mean that is how people will search for it, or even follow the messaging.

Be concise, to the point on the product and benefits.

Step 2: Learn Your Audiences

When your targeting is moving away from keyword-driven, then the next best thing you can do is, decide who can see your ad to start off with.

The basic rule of thumb: Just because someone can trigger your ad, does not mean they are qualified to engage on your site.

By cross-referencing inbound site data by persona and channel, you can then take your “Super Ads”, and deliver it to the right folks.

For example, I know my Male, U.S., audience that enters via Email is a top performer.

But by crossing it by behavior, I can refine that audience to recognize they are in the market for employment.

I take those learnings and make an audience for it, considering it highly qualified.

Spinning off from that, a lookalike audience will formulate:

This maximizes the qualification of a prospect, severed them the ideal ad (in my opinion), and did it all without keywords.

You should create different audience classifications, to know your expansion level of targeting.

I like to do:

Remarketing-Converter-Bottom of Funnel (low volume).

Remarketing-Abandoner-Mid Funnel (low volume).

In-Market Prospecting-Mid to High Funnel (medium volume).

Look alike of Converter-Mid to Low Funnel (medium to high volume).

Affinity Non Visitor-Prospecting-High Funnel (high volume).

This grouping can be more easily deployed, with a better sense of traffic volume and performance.

Note, Google Analytics has a beta on select accounts to pull together audiences based on probability to convert, which makes the cutting down process a lot easier for the marketer.

Step 3: Merge Your ‘Super Ads’ with Your Audiences

Fairly self-explanatory. You just created the best possible ad with your data.

You also just found the ideal audience segmentation for yours.

Now you combine them together.

I like to use all audiences in search (reactive media), as there is a degree of prequalification, as the consumer is searching for you.

Just don’t roll it all out at once, usually in waves.

Unless you are keen on building site traffic for data harvesting, this will help maximize ROAS, as best one can.

The Takeaway

As of today, keywords still exist.

There is no formal documentation or timeline of their extinction.

But the engines have begun to put less need for them, and a clear need to let automation take over.

And that can be achieved through audience targeting and segmentation.

Snapchat is introducing a tool called Snapchat Trends that highlights the most popular keywords shared with users in public stories.

In addition, you can search for any keyword in Snapchat Trends to find out the level to which it’s being used.

Data geeks will likely appreciate this last feature Snapchat crammed into its new tool, which is a carousel of real Snapchat stories that allow you to see how a keyword is being used.

What is Snapchat Trends?

Snapchat Trends is a lot like Google Trends in that it gives you a general overview of a keyword’s popularity on Snapchat.

Even the homepages are similar. When you land on Snapchat Trends you’ll see a search bar followed by a list of top trends from the past week.

Usage is graded on a scale from 0 to 100, with 100 being the highest level of popularity.

On that same page you can also find a carousel of Snaps related to the keyword.

If you’re unsure why a keyword is trending, this carousel will show you how it’s being used.

Data in Snapchat Trends isn’t limited to what was recently popular, as you can search for any keyword to see its usage pattern.

You can even look up multiple keywords to compare their usage. For example, the graph below shows which game console is clear favorite amongst Snapchat users.

As shown in the example, a drop down menu will let you filter the data by country. This is currently limited to Australia, Canada, United Kingdom, and the United States.

Now that you know what Snapchat Trends can do, let’s go over how to data can be useful to you.

How Can I Use Snapchat Trends Data?

Snapchat recommends five ways marketers can utilize the data in Snapchat Trends:

Product market research: Trends data can assist with researching organic consumer behavior to evaluate overall market fit for your product or service.

Copywriting: New and interesting language trends tend to emerge amongst Snapchat users. This insight can assist brands with writing contextually relevant copy.

Building customer personas: Trends data can lead to useful insights when building a profile of who your target audience is, what they do, and what they care about.

Media planning for key moments: Snapchat points to obscure holidays like National Ice Cream Day as opportunities for audience engagement. This tool can help you find the right moment to align a media strategy to.

Competitive research: This data can help you understand the market in which your brand, product, or service operates. By analyzing multiple keywords you can easily compare how the conversation has evolved.

Snapchat Trends is free to use and does not require you to have your own Snapchat account.

Changing The Replication Factor In Cassandra

Apache Cassandra is a highly scalable, distributed, and fault-tolerant NoSQL database that is widely used for managing large amounts of structured data across multiple commodity servers. One of the key features of Cassandra is its ability to replicate data across multiple nodes in a cluster, providing fault tolerance and high availability. In this article, we will discuss how to change the replication factor of a Cassandra cluster, and the considerations to keep in mind when doing so.

Introduction to Replication Factor

The replication factor in Cassandra refers to the number of copies of each piece of data that are stored across the nodes in a cluster. When a new piece of data is written to a Cassandra cluster, it is automatically replicated to a specified number of nodes, based on the replication factor. For example, if the replication factor is set to 3, each piece of data will be stored on 3 different nodes in the cluster.

There are two main ways to change the replication factor of a Cassandra cluster −

Using the ALTER KEYSPACE statement

The ALTER KEYSPACE statement is used to modify the properties of an existing keyspace, including the replication factor. The syntax for changing the replication factor using the ALTER KEYSPACE statement is as follows −

ALTER KEYSPACE keyspace_name WITH REPLICATION = {'class': 'NetworkTopologyStrategy', 'datacenter1': 3, 'datacenter2': 2};

In this example, the replication factor is being set to 3 for datacenter1 and 2 for datacenter2. This is a way to set different replication factors for different data centers and this is called NetworkTopologyStrategy.

Using the CREATE KEYSPACE statement

You can also change the replication factor of a keyspace by recreating it with a different replication factor. The CREATE KEYSPACE statement is used to create a new keyspace, and it can be used to recreate an existing keyspace with a modified replication factor.

The syntax for recreating a keyspace with a different replication factor is as follows −

CREATE KEYSPACE keyspace_name WITH REPLICATION = {'class': 'SimpleStrategy', 'replication_factor': 3};

In this example, the replication factor is being set to 3. SimpleStrategy is another way to set the replication factor which is the same for all data centers.

Considerations when Changing the Replication Factor

There are a few things to keep in mind when changing the replication factor of a Cassandra cluster −

Increasing the replication factor will increase the amount of storage and network bandwidth required for the cluster.

Decreasing the replication factor will decrease the amount of storage and network bandwidth required for the cluster, but it will also decrease the level of fault tolerance.

Changing the replication factor will require the movement of data within the cluster, which can cause increased write latency and increased load on the cluster.

When changing the replication factor, it is important to make sure that the new replication factor is set correctly, and that the keyspace is properly configured.

When you reduce the replication factor, the existing data on the removed replicas need to be streamed to the remaining replicas. If the cluster is write-heavy during the streaming process, it can cause increased write latency and decreased read performance.

Changing the replication factor should only be done during a maintenance window when the traffic on the cluster is low, to minimize the impact on the performance of the cluster.

NetworkTopologyStrategy can be used when you have multiple data centers and you want different replication factors for different data centers. SimpleStrategy should be used if you have a single data center and the replication factor will be the same for all nodes.

Point to take care of when changing the replication factor in Cassandra

Consistency − Cassandra provides tunable consistency, which allows you to trade-off consistency for availability. Changing the replication factor can have an impact on consistency, as it determines the number of nodes that must acknowledge a write before it is considered successful. When the replication factor is increased, it can improve consistency by acknowledging writes from more nodes. However, increasing the replication factor can also decrease availability by requiring more nodes to be available for writes to succeed.

Node Failure and Data Loss − The replication factor is the key factor in data loss prevention and survival of node failure. When the replication factor is increased, the risk of data loss is reduced as there are more copies of the data stored in different nodes. However, increasing the replication factor can also increase the likelihood of experiencing a split-brain scenario, where different nodes in a cluster have different versions of the same data.

Updating Schema − Changing the replication factor can also have an impact on the schema of a Cassandra cluster. For example, when increasing the replication factor, new columns and tables may need to be added to accommodate the additional replicas. It is important to consider the impact on the schema when changing the replication factor and to update the schema accordingly.

Monitoring − After changing the replication factor, it is important to monitor the cluster to ensure that the new replication factor is working as expected. This includes monitoring metrics such as write latency, read latency, and the number of failed writes. Monitoring can also help identify any issues that may arise as a result of changing the replication factor, such as network congestion or a lack of available disk space.

It’s always important to consider the needs of your specific use case and the potential risks and drawbacks of changing the replication factor. It’s also recommended to do testing and monitoring in a test environment before making any changes in production.

Many bloggers I’ve talked to recently get just as excited by traffic reports as the data analysts sipping 5 Hour Energy behind their 4 monitor workstations. Some bloggers just don’t know what they’re looking for or how to act on the data.

If you feel like you’re buried in a sea of bounce rates and page views, here are some things you can do now to make sure your time spent in analytics is worthwhile.


Filter Out IP Traffic

The most basic (and essential) filter to apply to your traffic is to remove your own footprint. Just grab your IP address from any of the IP sites and plug it in. That way you don’t skew your data.

If you have anyone else working on the site or if you frequently access your site from another location, it’s best to create multiple IP filters.

Track Site Search

One easy way to learn about how people are interacting with your site is to see what they search for. You can activate Site Search in your analytics settings and add your query parameter without too much trouble.

Later on, you can see search queries performed on your site within your content reports. With a list of terms that people are searching for, perform those same searches yourself to determine whether appropriate content exists to match the query or whether you need to create some.

Goal Tracking

Not all bloggers have goals, but they should. The most common goal to track for a blogger would be something like a contact form submission or an ebook download. These are tracked by having a separate Thank You page URL that you enter into the Goal URL field.

If you don’t have an ebook (and that’s not a crime), consider a different type of goal like “Time on Site.” Until you have an actual “product” or funnel destination, this can be a good way to benchmark how long readers stay glued to your content.


Referring Keywords

Determine whether the content on your posts is truly relevant to what was searched for. Look for keyword terms phrased as questions. Keywords can provide a fantastic blueprint for future content generation.

Discord is one of the ever-going platforms with millions of active gamers using it as their default place to communicate. However, this does not stop it from having its share of issues. For example, gamers are fed up with Discord changing the input devices. In this post, we are going to see what you can do if Discord keeps on changing the input devices during a session.

Why does Discord keep changing audio devices?

Users reported that Discord keeps changing audio devices, and this is probably due to the PC detecting HDMI as a new audio device and turning it on when the PC switches on after going into the Power saving mode.  The same situation is applicable to other similar devices like HDMI cables.

Launch Discord and navigate toward its Settings.

Now, go to Voice settings, and select the Input device and Output device from the drop-down menu.

Now launch Discord, and if it prompts you to select the device, proceed to the next solution.

3] Disable the second output/input devices

Next up, we are going to disable other audio resources, however, this is only recommended in cases, where there is no use for the device in question, otherwise re-enabling the second device for different uses will get hectic. Follow the prescribed steps to do the same:

Open Control Panel.

Set View by to Large icons.

In the Playback tab, find the secondary audio device.

4] Delete the Discord LocalAppdata

If disabling the secondary audio device was of no help, perhaps the corrupted app cache and data are the culprit. An improper or messed-up Discord update is particularly the reason behind this situation. Therefore, we are going to delete the Discord LocalAppData. Here’s how it is done:


Finally, select the Delete option.

Fingers crossed that Discord won’t experience any more mishaps.

If none of the above solutions resolves this, consider reinstalling the Discord app. Sometimes the incorrect installation of the app is the cause and will be resolved by installing a fresh copy. So, first, uninstall Discord and then reinstall the app and we can manually uninstall Discord from the Settings app.

The following steps will guide you on how to enable and disable Remember my apps in Windows 11. Do note that the Remember my apps setting is not available for Work or school accounts. Therefore, if you have signed in to Windows 11 with a Work or school account, you will not be able to turn it on or off. You have to sign in to Windows 11 with your Microsoft account.

Select the Accounts category from the left pane.

Toggle the button next to the Remember my apps tab to turn this setting on or off.

Remember my preferences: This setting lets you backup your preferences, such as language, passwords, etc., on other Windows 11 devices with the same Microsoft account. Apart from that Windows will also sync some of your settings, like File Explorer settings, printers and mouse options, notifications preferences, etc., on another Windows 11 device. The Remember my preferences setting remains unavailable for the users with Work or school accounts until it is allowed by their organizations.

You may find the Remember my apps setting greyed out on your Windows 11 PC. In such a case, first, check if you are signed in to Windows 11 with a local account or Microsoft account. The users with local accounts can’t turn on the Remember my apps and preferences setting on Windows 11. To fix this, follow the steps below:

Launch Windows 11 Settings.

Enter your Microsoft account username and password.

While signing in to Windows 11 with your Microsoft account, you may receive the following message:

The above message appears when the account that you are using to sign in to Windows 11 is already added to your device. In such a case, first, delete that account from your Windows 11 device and then try again.
