Suggested January 2024 Root Galaxy S2 Running On Xxlq5 Android 4.0.4 Firmware With Cf
Just a day ago the first Android 4.0.4 firmware for the Galaxy S2 – which brought many improvements particularly in performance and smoothness – was leaked online, which we covered with a step-by-step guide on how to flash it. And now, like always, XDA Elite Recognized Developer Chainfire has released the CF-Root kernel for the XXLQ5 firmware, which you can flash to automatically root the firmware, as well as install ClockworkMod recovery on it so you can install custom ROMs.
Update: The CF-Root kernel has been updated, as the previous one had a bug which could cause the internal SD card to brick and hence make the device stop completely. If you have flashed it already, flash the one given below as it is an updated kernel that does not have the bug.
So, read on to find out how you can root the XXLQ5 Android 4.0.4 firmware on the Galaxy S2.
Compatibility
This hack and the guide below are compatible only and only with Galaxy S2, model number I9100. It’s not compatible with the I9100G or any other device. Check your device’s model number in: Settings » About phone.
Warning!
The methods and procedures discussed here are considered risky and you should not attempt anything if you don’t know completely what it is. If any damage occurs to your device, we won’t be held liable.
How to Root XXLQ5 Android 4.0.4 Firmware on the Galaxy S2
Make sure you are on the XXLQ5 Android 4.0.4 firmware available → here. Do NOT try this on any other firmware. Check your current firmware version in Settings » About.
Filename: CF-Root-SGS2_XX_OXA_LQ5-v5.6-CWM5.zip
DO NOT extract the .tar file (this might show up as a zip file as well, but do not extract it). You need to flash the .tar file using Odin to gain root access and install ClockworkMod Recovery (CWM) alongside. (If you’re getting a zImage file, it means you’ve extracted the .tar file too! — and that’s not a right thing to do.)
Extract the contents of the Odin 1.85.zip file to a folder.
Disconnect your phone if it’s connected to PC, then switch it off.
Now, put the Galaxy S2 in Download Mode — press and hold these keys together: Volume Down + Home + Power. A Warning! screen will come up; press Volume Up key to continue to enter Download Mode.
Important! Do not make any other changes in Odin except selecting the required files as given in step 10. Leave all other options as they are.
If you don’t get this message, then probably there is a problem with drivers. Make sure you’ve proper drivers installed (check step 1). Also, uninstall Kies from the Control Panel as well (this will leave the drivers on the computer but remove Kies which can interfere with the procedure).
Now, hit the START button to start flashing CF-Root kernel. When the flashing is complete, your phone will automatically reboot — and when you see the Samsung logo, you can safely unplug the cable. Plus, you’ll get a PASS (with green background) message in the left-most box at the very top of the Odin. What to do if Odin gets stuck: If ODIN gets stuck and doesn’t seem to be doing anything, or you get a FAIL message (with red background) in ODIN, disconnect the phone from the PC, close ODIN, remove battery, re-insert it, turn phone on in Download mode again, and do the procedure again from Step 9.
If you run into any roadblocks while flashing the kernel, let us know and we’ll help you out.
Your Galaxy S2 running the Android 4.0.4 XXLQ5 firmware is now rooted and also has ClockworkMod recovery installed on it. Enjoy!

Ics Android 4.0.4 Update For Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 Wi
Continuing the Ice Cream Sandwich updates for the Galaxy Tab line of tablets, Samsung has started rolling out the Android 4.0 update for the Galaxy Tab 7.7 Wi-Fi-only variant, around two weeks after the Wi-Fi+3G variant. The update is currently rolling out in the UK over Kies, but those who want to manually update can do so using the guide below.
NOTE: Only use the guide below to update if you have the UK version of the device i.e you bought the device in the UK, as it’s not supposed to be flashed on devices in other regions.
Let’s see how you can update to Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich on your Galaxy Tab 7.7 Wi-Fi variant.
Compatibility
This ROM and the guide below are compatible only and only with the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 Wi-Fi-Only variant, model number P6810. It’s not compatible with any other device. Check your device model in Settings » About tablet.
Warning!
The methods and procedures discussed here are considered risky and you should not attempt anything if you don’t know exactly what you are doing. If any damage occurs to your device, we won’t be held liable.
First, download and install Kies on your computer in order to install the drivers for the tablet. After installing Kies, however, make sure Kies is NOT running. Exit it from the Taskbar at the bottom if it is running as it can interfere with the flashing process.
Important! Don’t forget to at least make a backup of your APN settings, which you can restore later if your data connection does not work after installing the ROM. Use the backup guide to find out how.
Extract the P6810XXLPK_P6810OXALPK_XEU.zip file once to obtain a file named P6810OXALPK_P6810XXLPK_HOME.tar.md5 (the filename may end at .tar, which is normal).
Filename: Odin3-v1.85.zip
Extract the contents of the Odin3-v1.85.zip file to a folder.
Now, turn off your Galaxy Tab 7.7, then boot into Download Mode. To do so, press and hold the Volume Down+ Power buttons till the screen turns on, then let go of the power button but KEEP holding the Volume Down button till you get a caution prompt asking you whether you want to enter download mode. Here, let go of the volume down button then press the Volume Up button to confirm and enter download mode.
Connect your tablet to the computer. You should get the message “Added!” under Odin’s message box in the bottom left. If you don’t get this message, then probably there is a problem with drivers. Check that Kies is properly installed (but again, make sure it is not actively running even in the taskbar). Also try to switch to another USB port – preferably a USB port on the back if using a desktop computer.
Important! Do not make any other changes in Odin except selecting the required file in PDA as given in step 9. Leave all other options as they are. Do NOT check the Re-partition option.
Now, hit the START button to start flashing the XXLPK Android 4.0 firmware on your Galaxy Tab 7.7. After the flashing is complete, the tablet will automatically reboot. You’ll also get a PASS message in ODIN. You can now safely disconnect your tablet from the computer. What to do if Odin gets stuck: If ODIN gets stuck and doesn’t seem to be doing anything, or you get a FAIL message (with red background) in ODIN, disconnect the phone from the PC, close ODIN, remove battery, re-insert it, turn tablet on in Download mode again, and do the procedure again from Step 7.
If you run into any roadblocks while flashing the firmware, let us know and we’ll help you out.

How to download the correct firmware file
This is an important part!
Be sure to check and find the correct model no. of your Galaxy A3. Then, based on your device’s model no., look for the appropriate firmware build from above.
Now that you know the model no., download the latest firmware from above for that model no. exactly.
Next, install the firmware on your Galaxy A3 by following the guide linked right below.
How to install a firmware
First, read our disclaimer, then take backup and then follow the guide below to install the firmware.
Disclaimer: Installing an official firmware through Odin doesn’t void your device’s warranty, but it remains an unofficial process and thus you need to be cautious of it. In any case, you only are responsible for your device. We won’t be liable if any damage occurs to your device and/or its components.
Backup, backup, backup! Create an appropriate backup of contacts, pictures, videos, songs and other important files stored on your device before proceeding with the steps below, so that in case something goes wrong you’ll have a backup of all your important files. Sometimes, firmware installation may delete everything on your device! Like, when you change the CSC of your device, knowingly or not.
Step-by-step Firmware Installation Guide
Let’s see how to install the firmware on your Galaxy A3. Make sure you have more than 30% battery on your device.
Step 1. Make sure you have downloaded the correct firmware file on your PC. See above for how to download correct firmware file for your Galaxy A3 and download links.
Step 3. Also, download Odin PC software (latest version).
Step 5. Extract the Odin file. You should get the Odin exe file (other files could be hidden, hence not visible).
Step 6. Disconnect your Galaxy A3 from PC if it is connected.
Step 7. Boot into download mode:
Power off your device. Wait for 6-7 seconds after screen goes off.
Press and hold the three buttons Volume down + Home + Power together until you see the Warning screen.
Press Volume Up to continue to download mode.
Step 9. Connect your device now using the USB cable. Odin should recognize your device. It’s a must. When it recognizes, you will see Added!! message appearing in the Log box in the bottom left, and the first box under ID:COM will also show a no. and turn its background blue. Look at the pic below.
You cannot proceed until you get the Added!! message, which confirms that Odin has recognized your device.
If you don’t get Added!! message, you need to install/re-install drivers again, and use the original cable that came with the device. Mostly, drivers are the problem (look at step 2 above).
You can try different USB ports on your PC too.
Load the firmware files(s) on your device. This depends on how many files you got in step 4 above upon extracting the firmware .zip file.
Case 1: If you got a single .tar/.tar.md5 file, then load this into AP tab of your Odin software. Then go to next step.
Case 2: If you got more than one .tar/.tar.md5 file, then you must be having files starting with AP, CSC, Home_CSC, BL, CP, etc. stuff. In this case, choose the files as follows. Select the firmware files as follows.
About CSC file: Using the HOME_CSC file won’t reset your device, and data on the phone shouldn’t be deleted. However, when we select regular CSC file, and it results in CSC on the device being different than that in CSC file, your phone will be formatted automatically. You can even choose to ignore loading the CSC file, that may do alright too. But if it doesn’t work out, repeat the whole process and select CSC file this time around.
Info: When you load files, Odin checks the md5 of firmware file, which takes time. So, simply wait until that’s done and the firmware file is loaded. Don’t worry if Odin gets unresponsive for a while, it’s normal. Binary size will also show up in Odin.
Go back to Log tab now, as it will show the progress of firmware installation when you hit the start button in next step.
Wait till installation is finished, after which your device will reboot automatically. You’ll get PASS message as shown below upon successful installation from Odin.
Some errors you may run into, and with respective solution.
If Odin gets stuck at setup connection, then you need to do this all again. Disconnect your device, close Odin, boot device into download mode again, open Odin, and then select the file and flash it again as said above.
If you get FAIL in the top left box, then also you need to flash the file again as stated just above.
That’s it. Let device restart automatically.
Firmware Benefits
You can use the firmware for a variety of purposes, which includes:
Fix your Galaxy A3 if it’s giving you force closes errors and restarts randomly.
Unbrick your Galaxy A3 if it’s bootlooping and stuck at logo when restarting.
Go Back to Stock on your Galaxy A3 — helps when looking to sell the device, or fix installing OTA updates if broken.
Restore Galaxy A3 to factory state.
Upgrade your Galaxy A3 to newer Android version.
Downgrade your Galaxy A3 to lower build no. at same Android version.
Unroot your Galaxy A3.
Remove custom recovery like TWRP and CWM, if installed, on your Galaxy A3.

How to download the correct firmware file
This is an important part!
Be sure to check and find the correct model no. of your Galaxy J5. Then, based on your device’s model no., look for the appropriate firmware build from above.
Now that you know the model no., download the latest firmware from above for that model no. exactly.
Next, install the firmware on your Galaxy J5 by following the guide linked right below.
Let’s see how to install the firmware on your Galaxy J5. Make sure you have more than 30% battery on your device.
Step 1. Make sure you have downloaded the correct firmware file on your PC. See above for how to download correct firmware file for your Galaxy J5 and download links.
Step 3. Also, download Odin PC software (latest version).
Step 5. Extract the Odin file. You should get the Odin exe file (other files could be hidden, hence not visible).
Step 6. Disconnect your Galaxy J5 from PC if it is connected.
That’s it. Let the device restart automatically.
Firmware Benefits
You can use the firmware for a variety of purposes, which includes:
Fix your Galaxy J5 if it’s giving you force closes errors and restarts randomly.
Unbrick your Galaxy J5 if it’s bootlooping and stuck at logo when restarting.

STEP 3: INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
DOWNLOADSDownload the CF Auto Root file given below and transfer it to a separate folder on your computer (just to keep things tidy, that is).
CF AUTO ROOT FILE STEP-BY-STEP GUIDEImportant Note: Backup important files stored on internal SD card of your device, so that in case a situation arises requiring you to do a factory reset after flashing the CF Auto Root, which might delete internal sd card too, your files will remain safe on PC.
Extract/Unzip the CF-Auto-Root file, CF-Auto-Root-jfltespr-jfltespr-sphl720.zip on your computer (using 7-zip free software, preferably). You’ll get the following files:
Odin3-v3.07.exe
CF-Auto-Root-jfltespr-jfltespr-sphl720.tar.md5
Odin3.ini
tmax.dll
zlib.dll
Disconnect the Sprint Galaxy S4 from PC if it is connected.
Boot your Sprint Galaxy S4 into Download Mode:
Power off your phone first. Wait for 6-7 seconds after display is off.
Press and hold these 3 buttons together until you see Warning! screen: Volume Down + Power + Home.
If you don’t get the Added! message, here are some troubleshooting tips:
Make sure you have installed driver for Galaxy S4 as said above in ‘Before you begin..’ section.
If you have already installed driver, then uninstall them and reinstall back.
Connect using a different USB port on your PC.
Try a different USB cable. The original cable that came with your phone should work best, if not, try any other cable that’s new and of good quality.
Reboot your phone and PC and then try again.
Load the firmware file (extracted in Step 1) into Odin as instructed below:
Now in the Option section of Odin, make sure that Re-Partition box is unchecked. (Auto Reboot and F. Reset Time boxes remain checked, while all other boxes remain unchecked.)
Double check the above two steps (Step 6 and Step 7).
If you see FAIL message instead of the PASS in Odin’s top left box, that’s a problem. Try this now: disconnect your Sprint Galaxy S4 from PC, close Odin, remove phone’s battery and put it back inside in 3-4 seconds, open Odin and then repeat from Step 2 of this guide again.
Also, If device is Stuck at setup connection or on any other process, then too, try this: disconnect your Sprint Galaxy S4 from PC, close Odin, remove phone’s battery and put it back inside in 3-4 seconds, open Odin and then repeat from Step 2 of this guide again.
NOTE: It may happen that your phone doesn’t automatically boot into recovery and root your phone. In that case follow the following above procedure except that in Step 7, Auto Reboot option is un-checked and then the instructions below:
Pull out the battery and re-insert it.
Boot your Sprint Galaxy S4 into Recovery Mode: Press and hold these 3 buttons together: Volume Up + Power + Home.
Now, this will start the rooting process and will reboot the phone automatically when the process is done.

How To Root Your Android Phone With Supersu
Android devices have historically been easy to root. With rooting, users get root access to the device’s file system. This allows users to have customization capabilities outside of what is usually possible with an unmodified version of Android. Here, we show you how to root your Android phone with the SuperSU tool.
PrerequisitesBefore we get started, there are a few things you will need to have in place:
You will need to unlock your boot loader.
A custom recovery like TWRP must be installed on your device (we have a TWRP setup guide for you here).
You will need to download the latest SuperSU file. Be sure to download the flashable ZIP file.
Root Your Android PhoneTo get started, you need to place the SuperSU file that you downloaded in the root directory of your phone’s storage. You can do this by either downloading the file directly from your browser or by connecting your Android phone to a computer and transfering it over.
Next, boot your phone into recovery mode using the key combination to do so with your phone. Now, from the installation menu of your custom recovery, you will need to select the SuperSU file from earlier.
After selecting the SuperSU flashable ZIP file, you need to confirm that you want to flash this file to your device.
After some time, you will be notified that the the file was successfully flashed to your device. You can then reboot your device by going to the main menu of the TWRP recovery and selecting Reboot.
Your device should now be rooted. Hopefully everything went smoothly. To ensure that this is the case, you’ll need to do a quick check to see if your device has indeed been rooted. You should now be able to see the SuperSU app in your phone’s menu.
To verify that the rooting process was successful, download the Root Checker app.
When you run the app, you should see a SuperSU prompt asking you if you wish to grant the app Superuser permissions.
Grant the app Superuser permissions. You should see that your device is rooted on the main screen of the app.
If none of these things happen, and there is no indication that your device has been granted Superuser permissions, then you may have to go back and retry the rooting process.
If it does indicate that you have root access, then you’re golden! You can now download root apps to your heart’s desire. When running a root app for the first time, you’ll usually be greeted with a prompt asking if you want to grant the app in question Superuser access.
Simply grant the app Superuser access, and you will be able to make use of all of its features.
Some Notes About the SuperSU AppIf you don’t respond to the prompt in time, then you won’t be able to make full use of the app’s features. If this was unintended, simply go to the SuperSU app, select the app want to grant superSU access to, and under the “Access” section of the resulting pop-up, select Grant.
You have the option of doing this with any root app that you have run on your device. The options for access are Prompt, Grant, and Deny.
Frequently Asked Questions Does rooting wipe my phone? No, rooting shouldn’t wipe your phone, though there is always a risk that if you root your phone wrong you may brick your phone! While rooting doesn’t wipe your phone, installing a custom OS may wipe your phone. So bear that in mind, given that a lot of people root specifically to install custom OS like LineageOS.
Is SuperSU still in development? The latest version of SuperSU is 2.82, which was released back in 2023. So it’s been a while since we’ve had a new version of the app. From that, it doesn’t look like the app is in development any more.
Is SuperSU Pro worth it?SuperSU Pro is a license key that unlocks some additional features for SuperSU, mainly in the way of security, with some extra anti-malware features and others. Given that it’s all free these days and can be downloaded from the SuperSU site, there’s no harm in downloading SuperSU Pro after SuperSU then using the APK to unlock the extra features on SuperSU.
Who owns SuperSU?Since 2023, SuperSU was actively developed by Chainfire, something of a legend on the Android modding scene. In 2023, Chainfire transferred ownership to a company called CCMT, then later in 2023 Chainfire announced the end of his work developing SuperSU, as it’s now being developed by another team. In truth however, they don’t seem to be doing much the the app. Very little is known about CCMT, leading many users to jump ship and use Magisk instead.
Rooting is useful, since it gives you full access to your file system, thus allowing you to customize your device and install apps in a way that isn’t possible with an unrooted device. If you just want to uninstall bloatware from your phone, you can do it without having to root your phone. Also, here’s how to take a scrolling screenshot on Android.
