Samsung Galaxy S7 camera details: bettering the best

The Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge are likely headed toward a full reveal on the 21st of February, complete with a new set of cameras. Today we’re having a peek at some of Samsung’s newest in camera technology – mobile technology, that is to say – revealed in part all the way back in November. This camera tech will make the next Galaxy smartphone’s camera powerful in all conditions. Not just outdoors. Not just in high lighting conditions. All places.

Again – as we noted earlier today – Samsung has not yet revealed the full collection of official details surrounding this device. Or these devices. Samsung has been tipped to be revealing two smartphones later this month, one a Samsung Galaxy S7, the other a Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge. Both with the same camera setups.

The information we’re working with here comes from a Samsung Electronics Investors Forum, one which took place on the 16th of November, 2024. Samsung never explicitly mentions the Samsung Galaxy S7, but does speak about the innovations that’ll be making their way to their best devices in the near future…

I.E. the Galaxy S line and Galaxy Note line eventually.

Using what’s branded BRITECELL technology, Samsung will bring the light to the darkness with their mobile cameras on Galaxy smartphones. This technology resides inside the device’s image sensor, where it allows the device to perform far better than its predecessors in low light situations.

To do this, the Galaxy S7 will reduce the amount of color artifacts present in modern day mobile photos. Less mess, basically.

Above you’ll see a chart showing how Samsung smartphones did in the camera department according to DxOmark.

A very TINY change in the size of the pixels you’ll be working with in the camera for the Galaxy S7 also makes a difference in light sensitivity. Somehow. Perhaps by magic – Samsung hasn’t made that trade secret entirely clear.

What they have suggested is that their next big jump in mobile camera technology’s module height (pixel) is reduced by 17% while, at the same time, you’ll be getting similar low light sensitivity as a 1.12um pixel.

Samsung concentrated on these four features in their hero line of smartphones over the past year:

• Small Pixel Size

• Wide Dynamic Range

• Low Light Sensitivity

• Instant Auto Focus

Not that the Galaxy S6 didn’t have these features, but the Galaxy S7 will be improving on the lot.

The Galaxy S7 will have the finest “Smart WDR” (wide dynamic range) in any Samsung smartphone. This means a better range of color and resolution throughout each image.

The Galaxy S7 will also roll with better PDAF. That’s Phase Detection Auto Focus – faster speeds on your snappers. Better photos of seagulls.

Samsung Galaxy S7 details (pre-official)*• Dimensions: 143.4 x 70.8 x 6.9mm (5.65 x 2.79 x 0.27-inch)• Display: 5.2-inch Super-AMOLED with 1440 x 2650 pixel resolution (that’s Quad HD, or 2K) (or 5.5-inch for the Edge)• Operating System: Android 6.0 Marshmallow• Processor: Qualcomm Snapdragon 820, Samsung Exynos 8890 (octa-core)• RAM: 4GB RAM• Camera: 16MP back-facing camera – 4K video, dual-LED flash, BRITECELL technology• Front-facing camera: 8-megapixel (similar to last year’s model)• Battery: 3,500mAh (guesstimate based on historical precedent)• Internal Storage: 16, 32, 64GB, microSD card slot for storage expansion• Special Features: Fingerprint scanner, Force Touch pressure-sensitive panel (under display), Corning Gorilla Glass 5 front and back panels, curved glass edges on rear, similar to Galaxy Note 5*NOTE: that the information in the specifications run-down is NOT direct from Samsung. Instead it is based on analysis based on precedent as well as data from anonymous sources and leaks from over the past several weeks.

Stick around for the March 21st Samsung Unpacked event which will be taking place in Barcelona, Spain, amongst other locations we’re sure. We’ll be covering the event right up close and personal. Hit our Samsung tag portal for more. Until then!

Report: Samsung Galaxy S7 And S7 Edge To Have “Little Overhaul”

The venue for unveiling new Galaxy smartphone, tentatively named the Galaxy S7, is still undecided. Though Samsung has so far been preferred to hold its own unpacked event for new products, the S7 will get a little change.

Another source, who spoke to the news organization via telephone, offered the following:

As the S6 and S6 Edge represented progress, the S7 will have improvements both in picture quality, performance and other some new features. But because smartphones have already been commoditized, you don’t need to spend more on a surface overhaul…The key point is can consumers enjoy content with enhanced viewing quality and boosted processing speed.

Tears of a clone: Could the S7 and S7 Edge look virtually identical to this year’s flagships?

Analysis: more of the same?

In the recent past, Samsung has been suffering from declining mobile revenue and market share due in no small part to keen competition from China. Once the undisputed leader in said country, domestic OEMs such as Xiaomi, Huawei, Oppo, and OnePlus have eroded the stronghold Samsung once had.

These manufacturers, many by selling exclusively online and thus eliminating costs associated with marketing and traditional distribution channels, are offering highly competitive products at costs far below those of the “old guard” of Android. The game has changed significantly in the past two years. Vlad Savov of The Verge recently said “the flagship smartphone is dead” and mused that, “the demise of terrible phones has made all phones exceptional.”

According to Counterpoint, the Samsung J series has been performing the best in the third quarter of this year.

Where is the growth?

Assuming that Samsung isn’t going to make significant superficial changes to its 2024 flagships, it follows logically to infer a segment of its potential customer base, be it existing or future, might not feel compelled to upgrade to the new variants coming next Spring. Those that have the S6 or S6 Edge might see little reason, and those who don’t might find the 2024 models to be of better value given that their cost will invariably come down even further.

The question then, becomes where Samsung might be getting the money it may be missing from this situation. The Korea Times points out that:

Counterpoint, a market research firm, recently said that Samsung’s market share gains have come at the low-end in the Galaxy J series during the third quarter of this year, strengthening views that price and hardware-initiated specifications are the “factors” rather than the appealing and curvy surface design.

Indeed Samsung’s fantastic third quarter earnings this year were such largely due to component sales and a favorable exchange rate. That the company would seek to push hardware internals in 2024 as opposed to spending large sums of cash on design R&D makes sense. Likewise, any new breakthroughs or developments made can ultimately help the OEM with future B2B contracts for components.

Wrap Up

We would like to hear your thoughts on this issue. For those that own an S6 or S6 Edge, would you feel compelled to buy an S7 or S7 Edge even if they retain an extremely similar design? What might make you upgrade? For those who don’t have an S6 or S6 Edge, would you be more likely to purchase them instead of next year’s offerings due to cost-performance issues?

The Best Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 Cases

Very thin and light

Several models available

Anti-slip matte surface

Back cover is a little sharp

If you want the thinnest possible case, we recommend this ultra-lightweight case from Spigen. The Galaxy Z Fold 4 is a heavy phone, and we love how this case protects from simple drops and scratches without adding any bulk whatsoever. It won’t hold up to serious drops and falls, but it does come in two colors: black and clear.

Looking for more thin Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 cases? We also recommend:

Incipio Grip

The Incipio Grip is one of the most popular cases on the market, and the version of the case for the Galaxy Z Fold 4 is yet another winner. We love the extra grips along the sides of the phone, which serve to prevent damage before it happens by preventing drops. If the phone does somehow slip out of your hand, it still has shock-absorbent technology baked in, plus raised bezels to protect the screen.

Best clear Galaxy Z Fold 4 case: Spigen Ultra Hybrid

Crystal clear design

Decent protection

Raised lips

Difficult to keep clean

If you want a simple clear case for the Z Fold 4 that won’t break the bank, Spigen once again has your back. The Ultra Hybrid is one of our favorite clear cases for normal phones, and the version for Samsung’s foldable is yet another winner. It’s significantly more resistant than the clear Air Skin above with a mix of polycarbonate and TPU materials. However, like all clear cases, we found it a bit difficult to keep clean.

Looking for more clear Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 cases? We also recommend:

Speck Presidio Perfect

The Presidio Perfect is remarkably similar to the case above. It’s a simple clear case with no major frills, but it offers up to 13 feet of drop protection, which is above and beyond what Spigen promises. Obviously, we wouldn’t recommend taking them up on that claim, as the hinge is still left unprotected while the phone is closed. It comes in clear and glittery finishes, both with an antimicrobial layer to prevent bacteria buildup.

Kate Spade New York Protective Hardshell

Want a bit more class and brand value? This Kate Spade New York Protective Hardshell case uses fairly simple materials, but makes up for it with two eye-catching designs: Hollyhock Floral and Scattered Flowers Iridescent. Both are clear cases with a simple, elegant floral design. Despite the name, we also found it to be rather slim, although it won’t offer too much in the way of protection beyond basic scratch resistance.

Best rugged Galaxy Z Fold 4 case: Spigen Slim Armor Pro

Unique sliding hinge

Excellent protection

Bulky

Pricey

Spigen offers a wide variety of cases, and the Slim Armor Pro for the Galaxy Z Fold 4 features an all-new design that really won us over. It still offers excellent protection with several layers of Air Cushion technology, but the new hinge mechanism keeps the most vulnerable part of the phone protected at all times. Naturally, this does add some bulk to the device. There’s also a model with an S-Pen holder, which keeps your pen secure in a slot at the end of the phone.

Looking for more rugged Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 cases? We also recommend:

Best S-Pen case: Standing Cover with S Pen

Integrated S Pen holder

Includes S Pen

Limited kickstand

Nice color options

Samsung doesn’t sell many first-party cases for the Galaxy Z Fold 4, but this is easily one of the best around. The Standing Cover with S Pen is slim and form-fitting, but with an integrated slot for the new S Pen Fold Edition. Even better, the S Pen itself comes with the case. There’s also a kickstand to hold it up while open, although it only works in horizontal format and isn’t adjustable. This case comes in three colors: Black, Graygreen, and Sand.

10 Best Chargers For Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra

Samsung released its new flagship Note-like smartphone, the Galaxy S22 Ultra, which comes with the Exynos 2200 chipset in some markets and Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 in other regions. The Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra is packed with new features, including a boxy design, an S Pen slot, Pro-grade cameras, and more. Having said that, much like other flagships, it does not ship with a charger in the box despite the premium pricing. Nevertheless, in this article, we bring you the 10 best chargers for Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra that offer 45W fast-charging at affordable prices. We have mostly included GaN chargers that are compatible with PD PPS technology. On that note, let’s find a suitable power adapter for the Galaxy S22 Ultra.

Things to Consider Before Buying a Galaxy S22 Ultra Charger

Samsung now recommends a 45W charger for the Galaxy S22 Ultra, instead of the 25W power brick that was used on earlier Galaxy devices. So the first thing you need to keep in mind is that the charging brick should support charging up to 45W. That said, note that a 25W charger is perfectly fine to charge your S22 Ultra, as many tests have recently shown. In fact, the speed difference between a 25W and 45W charger is minimal, and the time difference is merely 5-10 minutes to fully charge S22 Ultra.

Other than that, you should ensure that the charging adapter is PD PPS compatible. PD (Power Delivery) is a universal charging protocol that allows you to charge high-powered devices without having to worry about the thermal impact and high-voltage input. It’s backward-compatible with lower-powered devices as well. And PPS means Programmable Power Supply that can amp the voltage based on the device’s charging status and ambient temperature.

Apart from that, if you get a cable with the charger and multiple ports are available onboard, you can use the same adapter to charge your laptops, tablets, and other accessories. Increasingly, high-end laptops are supporting PD charging, so the S22 Ultra charger can also power your laptop. Not to forget, if it’s a GaN charger, the adapter size will be compact, allowing you to carry the charger easily.

It’s not a GaN charger, but the power adapter is compatible with PD PPS technology. You will get charging speeds almost similar to the official 45W power brick at half the price. Not to mention, it also comes with a Type-C cable attached to the adapter.

Elecjet 45-Watt PD Charger

Buy from Amazon

It can provide charging speeds up to full speed 45W as the adapter supports the PD PPS protocol. The best part here is that it comes with a Type-C cable and the charger pins are foldable too. And all this is offered at a price tag of just $32.99, way cheaper than most other offerings on this list.

UGREEN 65W 3 Port GaN Charger

$39.99

Buy from Amazon

Pros:

compact 65W GaN charger

3 charging ports

PD PPS compatible

Cons:

No cable included

Similar to the Baseus power brick, UGREEN is offering a 3-port charger that can provide power output up to 65W. It comes with two USB-C ports and one USB-A port. That means, apart from charging the Galaxy S22 Ultra at super-fast 45W speed, it can charge laptops, tablets, and other accessories as well. Not to forget, it’s a GaN charger and compatible with the PD PPS protocol.

Hyphen-X 100W GaN Charger

Galaxy S9 Release Dates The Phone Details, New And Old

Galaxy S9 Release dates the phone details, new and old

The beginning of our Samsung Galaxy S9 journey begins here, with tips of an early release. This device has been tipped more than once to be appearing first in January of 2023. Because of this, there’s quite a bit we can piece together with regard to components available and technology on the market in time for a new phone. We can make a rather educated set of analyzations for a full spec sheet right this minute.

In past years, Samsung’s revealed their standard Galaxy S line at or around Mobile World Congress. If Samsung does this again, they’ll be set on or around February 25th, 2023. If that’s true, it wouldn’t be surprising to find them launch the phone on March 23rd, 2023.

Leaks earlier this month indicate Samsung may give a teaser for the Galaxy S9 at an event in January. If they were to show the device at CES, for example, it’d be shocking to find them hold the full event release until February 25th. As such, a January reveal likely puts the release date somewhere inside February instead.

The following set of specs is based on several sources of information. One is a set of tips and rumors that’ve popped up over the last several weeks. Additional bits of info are inserted based on precedent and educated analysis.

Samsung Galaxy S9 Potential Specs (non-official):• Display (S9): 5.8-inch QHD+ Super AMOLED (570 PPI)• Display (S9+): 6.2-inch QHD+ Super AMOLED (529 PPI)• Processor in USA: Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 (SDM845)• Processor Internationally: Samsung Exynos 9810• RAM: 4 or 6 GB• Internal Storage: 64GB, 128GB (options)• MicroSD Slot: Yes, 256GB potential

Seem sort of familiar so far? It should. These specs are almost identical to those that come with the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus. The big differences are going to quite likely be in data speed and cameras.

More Samsung Galaxy S9 Potential Specs (non-official):• Connectivity: Bluetooth LE, NFC, USB-C, Cat 18 LTE support• Camera (backside): Dual lens: 12 MP (f/1.7, 26mm, 1/2.55, 1.4 µm, Dual Pixel PDAF) AND 12MP (f/2.4, 52mm, 1/3.6, 1 µm, AF), OIS, phase detection autofocus, 2x optical zoom, LED flash• Camera (front facing): 8 MP (f/1.7, 25mm, 1/3.6, 1.22 µm), autofocus, 1440p@30fps, dual video call, Auto HDR• Sensors: Iris scanner, 3D sensor (new!), fingerprint (rear-mounted), accelerometer, gyro, proximity, compass, barometer, heart rate, SpO2• Battery: 3100 mAh, USB-C, Quick Charge 2.0 or higher, wireless charging with Qi standard• Headphone Jack: MAYBE.• Additional Features: Samsung DeX, ANT+ support, Bixby AI personal assistant

There’s word that Samsung tried to implement a display-embedded fingerprint scanner on the Galaxy S9. There’ve also been reports that the company’s abandoned efforts to make said technology work in time for the Galaxy S9, but may bring the tech to the Galaxy Note 9 later in the year.

Based on the last several launches, we can safely assume we’ve got a basic grip on what Samsung will do for colors. The Galaxy S8 was released with colors similar to the following setup. It’d be odd (but welcome) to see Samsung change it up:

Galaxy S9 Potential Colors at Launch:

• Black

• Gray

• Blue

Galaxy S9 Potential Colors after a few weeks:

• Black

• Gray

• Blue

• Silver

• Gold

• Pink

• RED

Note that none of the information presented here is entirely official. Samsung will have a special event to reveal the entirety of the details for this phone within the first several months of the year 2023. At that time we’ll know the full extent of the details, top to bottom.
