Fifteen of these flower-shaped solar panels were installed last month in an open space between a highway and a retail lot in Austin, Texas. They not only provide a green source of energy, but also bring a fresh look to solar panel design. Unfortunately, I can’t help but think of those fake-tree cellphone towers when I see these things.
Designed by Massachusetts art duo Harries/Heder, the SunFlowers are an art exhibit at heart, and stand over 30 feet tall. They collect power from the sun by day, and use that energy to power their blue LEDs at night. Up to 15 kilowatts of surplus power is sent back to the grid as payment for any maintenance fees the SunFlowers incur.

1] LightshotmacOS has an inbuilt screen recorder and screenshot feature. It’s extensive and makes macOS very user-friendly for creators. While Windows 10 has Snip and also a lot of third party tools for taking a screenshot, Lightshot wins by a great margin. Once you install it, use print screen to trigger it.
Then just like on macOS, Command-Shift-4, it reveals the selector. You can then select an area. It will instantly offer editing tools, annotate, highlight, option to share, save or print the screenshot.

But since most of the third-party software is paid, this comes in handy to record without installing anything.
4] Universal Search using Cortana (WIN Q) or use WOXmacOS universal search tool is one of the best-inbuilt features. All you need to do is hit the spacebar, and it reveals a search box. You can use it to find almost anything. Windows offers a similar experience with Cortana search. All you need to do is invoke it by with Win + Q keyboard shortcut and start searching.
One small drawback of this is that it also displays search results from Bing. There is an equally good alternative–Wox. Once installed you can configure it to launch when you hit the space bar. It will pop up a search box where you can type to find what you want to see on Windows.
The best part of Wox is that its open source supports plugins, you can customize hotkeys, disable it on full screen, execute command line tools, search within the Control Panel, and it replaces your run prompt.
5] WinLaunchIf you want to have macOS like launcher on Windows 10, you need to try WinLaunch. You can add programs, files, URLs to it. To launch all you need to do is hit SHIFT + TAB, and it will reveal the blurred background with the list of apps you added to the launcher.
As you can see here, we aren’t trying to convert your Windows completely into Mac. Instead, we are trying to bring only some useful features.

The iBike Wrist iPhone Holder ThingSure, stuffing the iPhone into a plastic bag is a really cheapy way to protect it from liquid and splashes, and one brilliant entrepreneur had the idea of making what is basically a tougher version of a plastic bag to stick your iPhone in while you’re out cruising on a motorcycle. It probably works pretty well and is legitimately useful for bikers, but something tells me if the iWatch has a case it’s not going to look anything like a thick plastic baggy.

The Amazing Seiko UC-2100 Wrist Watch Translator ThingSo you thought you were a big shot with that Casio Calculator Watch on your wrist huh? Ha, you loser. Seiko had you totally beat in 1984, with a wearable brick which had a full sized QWERTY keyboard, a built-in language translator, and yes of course it had a calculator, of course it did. Magneto 2.0 Reveals What An Electric Jeep Wrangler Might Look Like
Every year thousands of Jeep enthusiasts gather in Moab, Utah for an event known as Easter Jeep Safari. The eight-day off-roading holiday in one of the world’s best rock-crawling locales has evolved over the years into an opportunity for Jeep to connect with its fans.
At the same time, for several years a cabal of engineers within the company have come together to develop a slew of concept vehicles that debut at the event. On occasion these teasers give potential customers a taste of what the company is cooking up for future product unveils, or at least items that may be made available as factory accessories in the future.
In 2023 the world was treated to the all-electric Jeep Wrangler Magneto concept. And this April 9, Jeep unveiled an updated Magneto 2.0 concept. The two concepts, along with Jeep parent company Stellantis’ EV Day last July, make it crystal clear that an all-electric version of the iconic Wrangler is in the cards in the near future.
Electric propulsion has some unique features that allow EVs to excel in off-road environments. An electric vehicle is much quieter than its gasoline or diesel-powered counterparts, allowing the EV off-road pilot to hear what the tires and suspension are doing. Electric motors also provide power delivery from the instant the driver’s foot contacts the accelerator pedal. Without having to work around drivetrain delays, an electric-motor-propelled Jeep would be better acclimated to climbing over rocks and ruts on the trail. And all of that is before you get to the environmental impact considerations of trail driving free of tailpipe emissions.
The 2023 attemptThe 2023 Wrangler Magneto concept was a good first effort, but was immediately seen as a half-baked affair. With just 285 horsepower on tap, it offered poor performance for an electric vehicle. It also retained its factory manual transmission, transfer case, and locker axles, making it clear this was an ill-conceived concept, primitive in practice compared to modern EVs already on sale, and technologically overshadowed by production-ready electric off-roaders like Rivians R1T and GMC’s Hummer EV.
Crucially, if Jeep wants to be taken seriously with the launch of an electric off-roader, it would need to make Jeep fanatics believe the EV wasn’t just a replacement for, but an improvement over, the Wranglers they love. It would also need to make EV enthusiasts believe Jeep was the way forward. In order to do that, it would need to take some large steps beyond the original Magneto concept.
The 2023 versionWith its second attempt, the Magneto 2.0 Concept, unveiled at this year’s Easter Jeep Safari, it appears Jeep has done just that. A new electric powertrain, which now features a more capable motor and a larger battery pack, massively improves the power and torque over last year’s effort.
Like the original Magneto, the second generation still features a manual transmission, this time a 6-speed unit pulled from Dodge’s Challenger Hellcat to handle the massive power output. The Magneto 2.0 now features 625 horsepower and 825 lb-ft of trail-shredding electric torque. That allows the off-road beast to sprint from 0-60 miles per hour in just two seconds flat, making it as quick as a Tesla Model S Plaid, but in a Jeep.
Most electric vehicles eschew multi-speed transmissions in favor of a single gear because electric motors are capable of spinning to much higher RPM than the average gasoline motor, and delivering power in a more predictable fashion. By sticking with a six-speed manual gearbox, the Jeep concept allows for more options while off-road. An electric vehicle can’t stall out, and doesn’t need a clutch to begin moving, so you can effectively put the gearbox into any gear and immediately roll out from a stop. This allows the driver to select a low gear and still have a very slow but extremely torque-multiplied “crawl” gear, helpful for maintaining traction while climbing a trail.

The Magneto 2.0 Concept starts off as a two-door Wrangler, though a full foot has been added to the vehicle’s wheelbase to find more room for batteries. Jeep engineers then fitted the SUV with a three-inch lift kit and 20-inch wheels, as well as some extremely chunky trail tires. To save a bit of the weight that came along in the form of batteries and the stretched chassis, the company completely removed the roof in favor of a bikini-style top, and replaced the factory steel and plastic body panels with featherweight carbon fiber.
What comes next for Jeep’s parent company and EVsIt is clear that Stellantis, and Jeep as a result, are preparing for an electrified future. At the company’s EV Day last year, Jeep announced the tagline “Zero Emissions Freedom.” Jeep currently offers four different plug-in hybrid models around the world, though just the Wrangler and Grand Cherokee are offered in the U.S. market. While the so-called 4xe models have been extremely well regarded in the market thus far, these plug-in hybrids are simply a stop-gap measure for the brand’s vision. To get to a truly zero emissions future, Jeep will need to introduce some full battery electric models in a rapid fashion if it hopes to keep up with the new players in the EV off road game.
The brand has an ambitious goal to sell “zero-emission” versions of all of its vehicles by 2025, so it stands to reason the electric Wrangler could be coming soon. In fact, Jeep’s first all-electric model is set to launch in early 2023, based on the company’s Compass compact crossover. The transition to electrification is happening, and while Jeep has been a bit late to the party, it seems interested in making up for lost time.

In fact, a single charge can recharge your phone around 100 times. It can even run a 500W refrigerator for 11 hours.
The generator features 1000W continuous and 3000W surge power. You can easily recharge it with the included power adapter. Or, go green by connecting the SG1000 to up to OKMO 100W solar panels. A built-in MPPT charge controller ensures efficient charging within just six hours of full sun. When charging with the power adapter, you can reach an 80% charge in under four hours.
Weighing in at just 24 lbs., it’s not too heavy to carry with you. It’s also easy to operate in a wide range of temperatures, from 14º F to 140° F.

Of course, there are the solar panels themselves. To keep them safer, they fold in half to protect the panels. A built-in kickstand makes them easy to set up. There are also handles to make them easier to carry. Thanks to the ETFE material, they’re more weather resistant to last for years.

Everything you need to get started is included. In fact, the generator is partially charged upon arrival, so you can use it immediately if you want. Or, plug it up and let it charge fully first.
Getting Set UpI tested charging the generator using both methods. Since it was raining for days after the power station arrived, I opted to charge indoors first. The OKMO Solar Generator 1000W SG1000 charged in just a few hours since it was already partially charged upon arrival.
I love the battery icon on the front that always lets you know how much juice you have left. The only problem is that the power adapter does get noticeably warm, bordering on hot. Make sure you don’t leave the adapter against anything that could melt.
Before I dive into the overall performance, let’s take a look at charging via the solar panels. By the time I charged the generator with the panels, it had around 20% charge remaining.
The panels were incredibly easy to set up. Velcro kickstands help them stand up easily, even in wet grass and leaves. A zippered pouch on the back has all the cables you need to connect the solar panels to the generator. You can connect one or two. Folded up, they’re fairly slim, so they’re easy to store when not in use.
The generator started charging immediately when the sun hit the panels. Even partial sun was enough to start charging. Overall, it took around five hours to charge.
Testing the GeneratorUsing the OKMO Solar Generator 1000W SG1000 couldn’t be easier. Simply turn on the power button and the outlets/ports you want to use. For instance, for AC power, I turned on the AC outlet section. This prevents other ports from being active unless you’re using them.
I started with a simpler test. During a power outage, I use a gas-powered generator to run my 40″ TV, modem/router, streaming device, and a lamp. I’ll eventually hook up my refrigerator and freezer if the outage lasts for a while.
Everything except my lamp is plugged into a power strip. I connected this to the generator and it all immediately powered on. It worked instantly with the lamp as well.
I then plugged my phone into the quick charge port to let it charge while watching TV. After an hour of usage, there wasn’t a noticeable drop in battery. Of course, the power station is capable of running at TV for up to 13 hours and a light for up to 76 hours.
I opted for a more strenuous test for my next round. This time I plugged in an average size refrigerator, standing freezer, 24″ TV, fan, and a phone. I did notice a slight drop in remaining battery after about an hour. I was happy to see the generator continue to cool itself, even as the refrigerator and freezer cycled on and off.
As a more fun test, I also connected an outdoor projector to watch movies in the backyard. It was nice not having to run a long drop cord through the yard to do this.
Final ThoughtsThe OKMO Solar Generator 1000W SG1000 packs a lot of power into a small package. For outdoor activities or power outages, this could easily become your new best friend. It can run most appliances and is easy to pack and take with you on the go. Of course, having the option to charge via solar panels makes it even better.
It’s designed to last for hours, making it a great backup power supply. Plus, it’s easy to use right out of the box.
