The Mi A3 comes in Blue, Grey and White colors and the white color looks the best. While Realme 5 comes in Blue and Purple colors that have a crystal cur pattern on the back that looks good, but not as premium as the glass back.

If we use Mi A3 and Realme 5 by one hand, we can use Mi A3 easily as it has less thickness and is also lighter than Realme 5.

Overall, in terms of design and build quality Mi A3 looks and feels better because of the Gorilla Glass body and features like an in-display fingerprint scanner.

Coming to the display, Mi A3 sports a Super AMOLED display which is plus point for it. Realme 5 has an IPS LCD display. Both the display panels have HD+ screen resolution.

Mi A3 sports a triple camera setup at the back with a 48MP main sensor which is Sony IMX586. It has an 8MP wide-angle camera and a 2MP depth sensor.

Realme 5 comes with a quad-camera set up that has a 12MP main sensor, an 8MP wide, a 2MP depth and an extra 2MP macro camera.

Mi A3 offers good detailing as well as more natural colors while Realme 5 has little washed out colors with fewer details.

Here’s an example of portrait mode.

They both also have a dedicated night mode. Here you may find Realme’s picture better but it has fewer details.

The Mi A3 sports a 32MP selfie camera and Realme 5 has a 13MP camera at the front. The specs itself make the real difference in terms of selfie camera of these phones. You can see the difference in the below samples.

As you can see, Realme 5 makes skin tone whiter than Mi A3. Here again, Mi offers more natural colors and details. However, for social media enthusiasts these both phones will do a nice job of an uploadable selfie.

Software & UI: Android One Vs Custom UI

The Mi A3 is the phone by Xiaomi for Android lovers. It comes with the stock Android experience with the Android One program which means fast OS updates. Moreover, there is no bloatware and UI seems pretty clean like Google phones.

Both phones pack the latest Snapdragon 665 processor which is based on the 11nm process. It is an upgraded version of Snapdragon 660 and features eight Kryo 260 CPUs which have been divided into four performance and four efficiency cores.

For graphics, it supports the Adreno 610 GPU which the company claims can deliver long-lasting gameplay. So we played PUBG Mobile on both and the results were no different. Both can run the game at smooth graphics without any lag or any other issue.

In terms of other performance, such as multitasking, both are also similar. However, Android One offering on Mi A3 makes its performance a little bit smooth.

The Mi A3 comes with a 4,030mAh battery that has 18W fast charging support. This much size of the battery is fair enough for a day’s usage. Realme 5 comes with a bigger battery which is 5,000mAh. However, it doesn’t support fast charging technology.

If we talk about other features, Mi A3 comes with Hybrid card slots which means you can either use two SIM cards or one SIM and a micro SD. Realme 5 comes with triple card slots.

In terms of ports, Mi A3 has a USB Type C port while Realme 5 has a micro USB port. Other connectivity features are mostly similar.

Coming to the conclusion, with the Mi A3 you get a better design, AMOLED display, glass build, stock Android and 48MP camera performance at a slightly higher price. While Realme 5 has one extra camera and a big battery at a lesser price. So, if you are ready to spend those extra bucks, Mi A3 could be a better deal for you.

Xiaomi Mi Mix Review: Nice To See, Good To Hold…

In typical Xiaomi fashion, the company did not give the Mix a full-blown launch. Instead, they chose to hide the Mix in the Mi Note 2’s shadow, and let the market respond instead of making the push themselves. Heck, they even called the Mix a ‘concept’ phone.

Come CES 2023, Xiaomi are seen showing off the Mi Mix… in white. Again, it’s a phone really tough to get hold of (unless you don’t mind digging a hole in your pocket).

Anyway, let’s get to the Mi Mix.

Xiaomi Mi Mix Review Design and Build

This is the section you need to be in if you’re here to get yourself convinced into getting yourself a Mi Mix. The Mi Mix is unlike any other phone you’ve seen before (unless of course you’d seen the Sharp Aquos Crystal a few years back). It’s a huge phone, with a screen to body ratio that’s quite unnatural for modern phones. Contrary to belief, the Mi Mix does not have the slimmest bezels ever; what it does have is three sides of slim bezel instead of the usual two.

I have to admit, it’s quite refreshing, and most certainly a crowd magnet. Be ready for some awkward second glances (if you’re not used to those, that is) when you pull out the Mi Mix to take snaps at a concert.

The screen on the Mix is a 17:9 6.44-inch display. Since it isn’t a traditional aspect ratio we have here, the pixels on the screen are 1080 x 2040. While it does sound like a tricky number, Xiaomi have tuned MIUI enough to make best use of the available real estate without really making users adjust to it.

Coming back to the design, the Mix is truly something worth gawking at. For a week or so, until you get bored of it and the impracticality starts weighing out the pleasure you get out of its great looks. It’s also the slipperiest smartphone you’ll probably ever have the pleasure of using. I’ve had a couple of heart attacks already, since it’s a really expensive phone and you usually want to be using it in one piece.

Also it turns out that it’s not the best built phone of 2024. Or to put it in other words, it’s a certain ‘handle with care’ device. I managed to chip one edge of the phone somehow, and I swear I don’t even know how. Not something you want to be happening to your heavy investment.

Reminds me of a certain popular set of words usually seen at novelty stores in India 10-15 years back…

Hardware and Performance

I mostly have only good things to say about the Mi Mix’s hardware and performance. It’s a really fast phone, which despite its humongous screen, manages to deliver a battery life that makes it fairly usable.

For starters, the Mi Mix comes with a Snapdragon 821 SoC — one the most powerful smartphones processors out there. With that, it either gets 6GB or 4GB of RAM and lots of storage. The version we tested here was the 4GB RAM/128GB, which despite being the ‘base’ version performed like a champ for the most part.

MIUI being MIUI, does have some really useful features, but also screws up at times. The screw up for me started when I had to get Google Play and other Google services running on to (the unit from Trading Shenzhen did not have these out of the box). After a good 30 minutes of trying I finally got Google running on my phone (the contacts wouldn’t sync, which is what took time).

Thankfully though, that was the end of my troubles with MIUI on the Mi Mix. It’s been smooth sailing, pretty much, since then.

The phone is blazingly fast in firing up apps, takes next to no time saving photos… in other words, the Mi Mix does behave like you’d expect a Snapdragon 821 phone to. After having used the OnePlus 3 for a few months, I will admit that there are situations when you find apps being cached out of the memory, but then it’s not all that bad. No one’s ever gonna buy the Mix for sole performance…

Gizchina News of the week

Where I feel Xiaomi missed a trick though is the display. While it’s a fun panel and everything, a higher (QDH-grade) resolution would’ve sealed the ‘wow’ deal all for once. Another something Xiaomi could’ve tried with the Mix (since it really wasn’t a phone they were betting their future on) is slapping on an OLED panel, just to get the saturation levels up and to make the phone look more like a ninja when the screen wasn’t turned on.

That said, looking at it with a purely objective perspective, the display is nice. It’s a bit reflective sometimes, but then getting the brightness up does the trick. What I don’t like too much about it though are the edges — they’re curved. While curved edges go well with the cartoonish MIUI, they take away a bit of class from the Mi Mix.

The fingerprint sensor on the rear is pretty much spot on all the time. It’ll take you a few days to get used to having your fingerprint scanned on the sensor instead of the camera (it sucks when that happens), but when that does happen you’ll find the sensor working pretty fine. It’s fast, and unless you have really wet hands, it’s going to unlock your phone in no time.

I use the Mix with one SIM, on 4G for the most part. Despite that, the phone has been able to return on average a full day’s use. Given that it does feature a larger-than-average size screen, I feel this is quite impressive. As for screen on time, you can easily expect 5 hours (or more) of screen time. As I write this review, the Mi Mix stands at 38% battery with 3:40 hours of screen on time.

As for the sound output, it’s a bit of a mixed bag. The included loudspeaker isn’t loud enough at times, but the sound quality it outputs is manageable. There’s no dearth of bass or abundance of treble, something that a lot of Chinese phones happen to suffer from.

The ‘earpiece’ (or the lack thereof) is interesting. When you’re on a call, it feels like the entire phone is acting as a speaker, which is quite remarkable to be honest. It’s also a fun experience. As for how practically usable it is, I’d say it’s as good as a regular earpiece. The sound will certainly not be the same, but the efficacy will.

Photo Gallery Camera and Photos

Unlike previous Xiaomi phones (the Redmi Pro, Mi 5s Plus) the Mi Mix does not have a dual rear camera setup. It’s again a bit of a surprise because Xiaomi appeared to gone all guns blazing with this one.

That said, the camera does perform fairly decently on the Mix. You are invariably going to hate the front camera sensor’s positioning, but once you realise you’re holding a Mi Mix in your hands, it’ll probably and hopefully (for you) dissipate.

Have a look at some samples.

How about a selfie test?

Xiaomi Mi Mix Review Conclusion

The Mi Mix is a fad. It’s a superb device to look at, to show around, and to use for a few days. Beyond that point, it starts getting a little impractical. You start realising how easy it is to break, start thinking what else you could’ve done with your $800-1000.

I feel the Mix isn’t a phone designed to be tested as a regular phone, but since that’s what we do, we did it anyway. People who want a Mix will get the Mix anyway, regardless of what we (or anyone else, for that matter) say about the phone.

You can purchase the Mix from the following stores.

Lpddr5 Memory To Debut With Xiaomi Mi 10: Who Else?

LPDDR5 Memory

According to the official announcement, the Micron LPDDR5 uses leading packaging technology (a single die is 12GB). The transmission rate of low-power DDR5 is up to 6.4Gbps, which is nearly twice as fast as LPDDR4, more than 20% faster than LPDDR4x. And data access speed has increased by 50%. On the other hand, LPDDR5 has reduced power consumption by more than 20% compared to the previous generation. For the end-user, the most direct manifestation is battery life. According to Micron Technology, because LPDDR5 runs faster, the app processor and operation speed are faster. So terminals equipped with LPDDR5 will have a 5% -10% extension of the battery.

Also Read: LPDDR5 RAM Memories For Smartphones Are Official And Promise More Speed For Everyone

Micron’s current LPDDR5 memory capacities include 6GB, 8GB, and 12GB, with data transfer rates of 5.5Gbps and 6.4Gbps. This will effectively respond to various markets such as cars, client computers, and 5G and AI application-specific network systems for higher memory performance and lower power consumption demand.

Micron will also apply LPDDR5 memory to mid- to high-end smartphones through UFS-based multi-chip packaging (uMCP5) in the first half of 2023. The multi-chip package LPDDR5 can extend battery life and provide higher bandwidth to support high-performance image processing functions previously only available on flagship models.

Xiaomi Mi 10 – The First LPDDR5 Memory Smartphone

Xiaomi’s annual flagship will hit the market soon. It’s considered to be the first smartphone with a Snapdragon 865 chip onboard. But apart from this, today, Micron Technology also announced the Mi 10 will debut with the LPDDR5 memory chip.

Later, Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun updated the news that the Xiaomi Mi 10 uses LPDDR5. It will not only be equipped with Micron’s LPDDR5 memory but also Samsung’s LPDDR5 memory.

He said that LPDDR5 performance is very good, and he hopes that both suppliers will speed up production.

In a common use test, the battery life is increased by about 10%;

When playing games, it will save the battery power by about 20% (Honor of Kings);

In social media, it saves power by about 10%.

Lei Jun also said on Weibo that ‘LPDDR5, a leapfrog upgrade, has a huge impact on the improvement of smartphone performance. Last February, JEDEC released the LPDDR5 memory standard. The LPDDR4 standard has been upgraded from 3200Mbps to 5500Mbps and can transmit 44GB of data per second. LPDDR5 uses up to 16 Bank programmable and multi-clock architecture, and introduces Data-Copy and Write-X instructions to reduce power consumption, as well as links ECC error correction.’

Gizchina News of the week

Of course, we understand that a new memory chip will cost more. But Lei Jun responded to some users, saying ‘we will bring LPDDR5 to all Xiaomi Mi 10 users, even if the cost is a lot more expensive.’ At last, it’s reported the Xiaomi Mi 10 will consider the 6GB + 128GB variant. But it seems there won’t be an 8GB + 64GB model.

Who Else Will Use LPDDR5 Memory? Redmi K30 Pro

Though Lei Jun didn’t talk about other Xiaomi smartphones that will use LPDDR5 memory, there are rumors the upcoming Redmi K30 Pro will be packed with it as well. However, this should be confirmed yet.

Realme 5G Phone

This afternoon, Xu Qi, vice president of Realme and global marketing president, revealed on Weibo that the Realme 5G flagship phone equipped with LPDDR5 is coming.

At the moment, however, it is unclear which manufacturer has supplied LPDDR5 memory to Realme. In this regard, in January, a Realme smartphone codenamed RMX2025 was certified by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. The TENAA documents showed it supports 5G networks in independent (SA) and non-standalone (NSA) modes. Some sources pointed out that this device is the Realme X50 Pro 5G. So there is every reason the first Realme handset with LPDDR5 memory will be this model.

Today, an unreleased smartphone with a Snapdragon 865 5G + LPDDR5 + UFS 3.1 combination was leaked. As you guess, it’s a standard flagship mobile phone. Interestingly, a VIVO executive ‘like’ the statement, which caused a huge stir. Many users think that this is going to be the next flagship of VIVO. Maybe it will come our way from the iQOO brand.

Needless to say that the Snapdragon 865 SoC is the latest flagship mobile platform released by Qualcomm. It is expected that most of the flagship smartphones in 2023 will choose this chip. It will integrate the Snapdragon X55 modem to support 5G networks.

Apart from this SoC and LPDDR5 memory announced today, the new VIVO phone will feature the UFS 3.1 flash memory, which is the fastest mobile flash memory at present.

UFS 3.1

Earlier, JEDEC has released the UFS 3.1 specifications list. These new features are expected to further improve device performance, reduce energy consumption, reduce the cost of high-capacity storage devices, and improve user experience.

This flash memory comes with three new features: Write Booster, Deep Sleep, and Performance Throttling Notification. Also, it’s said the UFS 3.1 specification functionally brings UFS storage devices closer to SSDs.

A new and unreleased UFS 3.1 machine that was tested in AndroBench showed a reading speed of 1800± MB/s and a sequential writing image below shows that the maximum sequential write speed in the current UFS 3.0 standard test is 500± MB/s.

Much earlier, we have heard UFS 3.1 continues to support the HS-G4 specification, with a single channel bandwidth of 11.6Gbps. It is twice the performance of HS-G3 (UFS 2.1). UFS 3.1-compliant storage devices will continue to provide theoretical maximum bandwidths of up to 23.2Gbps (2.9GB/s). Plus, with the addition of write enhancer and HPB technology, the actual performance of the upcoming UFS products will become higher. At the same time, deep sleep helps extend the battery life of the device.

With the PSVR 2 release date on the horizon, people are wondering where to buy the PSVR 2 ahead of release. Especially now that unboxings and first impressions have gone live. Additionally, all the first impressions, including our own have been very positive, so interest in the PSVR 2 has increased a lot.

NOW READ: PSVR 2 Review: Captivating, comfortable, costly.

To that end, we’re going to list everywhere that you can pre order the PSVR 2. We’re also going to go over where to buy the PSVR 2 after release too, as the story changes then.

Where to pre order the PSVR 2 right now (All regions)

Annoyingly, yet unsurprisingly, you can only pre order the PSVR 2 from the official Sony online store, unless, you’re Canadian. Yes, indeed those from the land of Ice hockey, maple syrup, and kindness can get their PSVR 2 pre order in from Amazon.

We aren’t really sure why this is the case, probably a complicated mix of e-commerce and marketing nonsense that we are thankfully unaware of.

Other regions, annoyingly, will have to slum it on the official PlayStation store. Well, slumming it is harsh, but it’s still a bit inconvenient.

Will the PSVR 2 be available on Amazon after launch?

At some point after launch, we’re confident that the PSVR 2 will be available on Amazon, however, the DualSense Edge controller still can’t be found on Amazon and that was released on January 26th.

Hopefully, the PSVR 2 will filter down to more popular retailers and find its way onto the shelves at physical stores too, as this will make it far more accessible to a wider audience.

When can you buy PSVR 2?

If, after all of this, you’ve been bitten by the PSVR 2 bug, here’s everything you need to know about the PSVR 2 release date.

The PSVR 2 is set to release on February 22nd 2023, As mentioned, you can of course pre order it already. The pre orders will start shipping a day or two beforehand, to ensure that as many units as possible reach their buyers on release day.

Additionally, the launch titles Sony’s been banging on about like Horizon: Call of the Mountain will release at the same time, so you can start swinging lightsabers and shooting arrows forthwith.

More PSVR 2 Stuff!

If you’re eager to know everything about the PSVR 2, you’re in luck, as we’ve written a lot of pages about the PSVR 2. For your convenience, we’ve listed it all below!

Where to buy PSVR 2 FAQs

Is the PSVR 2 worth it?

It’s expensive, yes, but we were blown away during our testing period, so if you’ve got the cash, you probably won’t regret it.

Why can’t I buy PSVR 2 on Amazon?

We think that it’s an attempt by Sony to reduce the chances of scalpers. This is a good idea in principle to avoid the mess of scalped PS5 consoles that plagued that release for over a year. Though, it might not be a necessity, as the PSVR 2 has no chance of being as popular as the PS5.

Then again, The original PSVR surprised even Sony itself with its popularity at launch, so having a contingency plan in place might be smart if the PSVR 2 proves to be even half as popular.
